Bendik makes powder horns.

Here you can see how gunsmith and craftsman designer Bendik Nilsen Bergendal make a traditional, Norwegian black powder horn. These horns have been shown on the NRK, the Norwegian state TV channel.
Bendik writes: "Civilian muzzle loading firearms were often loaded with loose black powder carried in flasks or horns. In Aust-Agder in southern Norway there was a tradition in the 17-th and 18-th centuries for decorating such powder horns with various figures. These figures were taken from songs and tales known to the carvers. The Bible was the most used source, with The Fall of Man, Sampson and Delila and Daniel and the dragon being among the most common scenes. Other popular figures were Roland and Burman the Muslim giant, from The Carolingian cycle. There were also a variety of figures associated with the stories surrounding Didrik of Bern, a character loosely based on Theodoric of Verona. The horns I have made are not a copy, but my own take on the stile, with my own selection of mythical characters."

I shot my flintlock at the gun range today. I have made 6 or more plain powder horns over the last 2 decades of the 20th Century. Most from cow horn, and 1 from Bison horn. I have also bought a few from other makers. I enjoyed your video.

Awesome video, really cool too see how powder horn art work was done another part of the world. Powder horns were also decorated here in the USA as well but were often scrimshaw instead of relief carved. I kind of want to try my hand at relief carving a horn now. Thanks for sharing!
