Here you will find videos that gives you an insight in Norwegian and Nordic everyday life and you will meet people with exciting and peculiar and sometimes unusual hobbies over a broad specter. In the long winter evenings Norwegians are very creative.
My videos also reflect the great variety both in nature and weather, and of course the big difference between winter and summer. In the winter the temperature can sink to under -4 degrees Fahrenheit. In the summer it can be 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Most Norwegians love the seasons. Bathing in the se in the summer, skiing in the forest and mountains in winter.
Please feel free to contact me if you have comments og questions!
Me: I am a retired journalist and newspaper editor, still working as much as ever. I produce videos for TV Agder, a local tv channel. I write detective books, eight books so far. I have also made books in rope and knots, and about bicycling in South Norway. And I like to make inventions in my workshop.

FANTASTIC model BUILDING: Cultural Heritage in Miniature!
One of the three contributors to this documentary film is Trond Atle Olsen from Varhaug in Rogaland. In his spare time, he runs the company Modellbygg, which produces and sells a variety of self-made wooden building kits of Norwegian houses and buildings. Email address: post@modellbygg.com Website: www.modellbygg.com Facebook: profile.php?id=61559745399074
---
It is important to preserve cultural heritage in full size. And it can also be done in miniature, for example, in scale 1:87, which is the most common scale for model railways. In this film, you’ll meet Arnulf Pedersen, a retired teacher from Froland in Agder, Jon Einar Vistad from Sandnes near Stavanger, and Trond Atle Olsen from Varhaug. All three are among Norway's most accomplished model builders in scale 1:87.
---
Arnulf has created a series of dioramas-small model landscapes-where he has recreated everyday Norwegian life in miniature. The smaller and more challenging the details, the more interesting and rewarding it becomes for Arnulf. In this film, we focus on Rise Station and Haugsjå Stop on the Arendal Line, located between Arendal and Nelaug. This was once part of the railway that extended all the way to Tveitsund/Treungen.
---
Jon Einar Vistad is from Dalen in Telemark but has lived in Ganddal, Rogaland, for many years. He works at Bane Nor, and model railways have been a long-standing passion of his. He has built an exceptionally realistic model railway in his basement, which he has named the Indre Stambane (Inner Trunk Line). It is based on historical plans for a railway connecting Oslo and Stavanger along a different route than the current Sørlandsbanen. While the Indre Stambane never made it past the planning stage in reality, it exists in full detail in Jon Einar’s basement.
---
Trond Atle Olsen lives in Varhaug and works as a teacher. For many years, he has been building modules inspired by both Norwegian and American prototypes. Some of his modules have even been featured in the American model railway magazine Model Railroader. In his spare time, Trond Atle runs the company Modellbygg. In recent years, he has designed and sold numerous self-made kits of Norwegian buildings, ranging from a small workshop to a relatively large soap factory. The kits are primarily made from laser-cut plywood, with thicknesses ranging from 0.4 mm to 2 mm. The parts of these models come in their natural "plywood color" and must be painted and weathered-or "dirtied up," as Arnulf Pedersen calls it. --- Making buildings and other details appear lifelike is a science in itself. The figures-the "people"-are only about 20 mm tall and have their skin, jackets, ties, socks, hair ribbons, and so on meticulously painted.

You’ve probably experienced this too: it’s incredible what interesting subjects you can find if you take a walk or bike ride with a camera. In this case, I took one of my film cameras (a Sony ZV-E10 with a separate Røde microphone). Like many other Norwegians, I live far from a major city, surrounded by nature. In Norway, there is still plenty of untouched nature. If you walk in a remote place,...

I am fascinated by Russian cameras. Some time ago, I bought a Zorki 2-C. One of the shutter curtain shafts turned out to be stuck, but I managed to loosen and oil it. The camera seems to work fine. A few days ago, I bought a Zorki 4. It’s a Soviet 35 mm camera produced by the Krasnogorsk Mechanical Factory (KMZ) in Russia between 1956 and 1973. It was an improvement on earlier Zorki models and ...

A few years ago, one of my sons developed an interest in analog black-and-white photography. I also rekindled my interest. As a journalist, I have been photographing since the early 1970s. Until the turn of the millennium, this meant shooting with black-and-white film and spending hours developing the film and making paper enlargements in the newspaper's darkroom. As a longtime newspaper journa...
The drone filmed its own "death"! (And hung in a tree all winter.)

I was going to record drone footage of a place in southern Norway where an English transport plane was shot down in the spring of 1945, as World War II was in its final phase. My drone wasn’t shot down, but I was inattentive. The drone didn’t have obstacle sensors, and before I knew it, it crashed into a towering birch tree! I had no choice but to head home without the drone and put the remote ...

Den mest berømte tungtvannsaksjonen, operasjon Gunnerside, fant sted i februar 1943. Aksjonen vakte beundring og respekt, selv hos tyskerne.

I bought a used and old Flexaret twin-lens reflex camera (TLR camera) on the Norwegian classifieds website Finn. I paid 45 Euros for the camera. It's a Flexaret IIa. This type of Flexaret was produced in Czechoslovakia from 1947 by the Meopta factory. The camera I bought is, therefore, older than I am, as I was born in 1954. It turned out the camera works. And it really takes good black-and-whi...

Ice from Norway to Africa!
It seems incredible, but in the 1800s, Norwegian sailing ships transported ice from Norway as far south as Africa. Just before the year 1900, Norway was the world's largest exporter of natural ice from lakes. It should be noted that most of the ice was not sent to Africa, but to England and the rest of Europe. Tons of Norwegian ice blocks were crushed and used for preserving fresh fish and othe...

How is using this camera at night? I have a Flexaret V it’s too dim to focus well under low lighting conditions. Is this just the case with these types of cameras, or should I consider changing the ground glass?
My experience after many years of black-and-white photography as a journalist, is that focusing with analog cameras in low light is a challenge. I find the Flexaret difficult to focus under certain conditions, even in good light. I also have a Zeiss Ikon Nettar (ua-cam.com/video/BBQgFz8SFuE/v-deo.html), and with that, I have to measure or estimate the distance when focusing. You can do the same with the Flexaret using the scale. To photograph at night, you need to use a tripod or place the camera on a completely stable surface, as the shutter speed can be long, sometimes up to several seconds. We must remember that our eyes "adjust" to low light, allowing us to develop what is called night vision. The camera cannot do this. We can equip it with more light-sensitive film (400 ASA and higher), but the price we pay is that the silver grains in the film become coarser.
I have one of these but haven't used it for a few years now. If the bellows are light-tight and the shutter works keep your hand held shots to the higher speeds. For other shots the camera needs some support as you showed us. There is little to go wrong as there are no speeds below 1/25sec. which are usually a problem and they are very much more satisfying cameras to use than many modern ones. Thank you so much for reminding us of what they are capable of. I really enjoyed this video - very well presented. Enjoy your photography.
Thank you very much for your kind comment. I became glad when I read it. I am impressed that the bellows ar light-tight after more than 70 years. I aggree with you, these cameras are very good.
Oh thats me on this channel gabriele

Nicely done video!
Thank you so much! Very nice to hear that you like the video.
Greetings from England - My Father has given me a Zeiss Ikon 522/24 Camera, which uses 35mm film. It belonged to one of his uncles, and is essentially a thing of mechanical beauty (when you hold it in your hands it feels, as we say in England, "just right"). I recently put my first film through it, using the 'Sunny F16' rule and got a couple of very decent pictures. A Light Meter is on my horizon as I type (but don't tell the wife!). Although my camera is from the early 50's, I am only from 1963, so its got approximately 10 years on me! I really enjoyed your video, Guttorm. All the best ...
Thank you very much for your greetings. In addition to the Nettars, I also have an Zeiss Ikon Ikonta 521 (120-film) and a Zeis Ikon Contina (the model with rangefinder) for 35 mm film. I am absolutely not a collector. Together with two of my sons I try analog photographing. For me, it is try once more. The light meter you see me use in the video, is an Ikophot from Zeiss Ikon with selen-cell - it does not ned a battery. I bought it second hand her in Norway for 200 NOK (aprox. 19 euro). Even if its older than you (and younger than me, I believe) it function very good. I hope you go on with the photographing. It can be a good idea to buy a strarter kit for black/white developing.
Hello from toronto canada. Thanks for the nice video. I like your accent, too.
Hello, and thank you very much for your pleasant comment. I am happy that you like det video. When it comes to my accent, I know very well that it is Norwegianenglish. But everyone know that I am not a native English-speaking person, so I think that works OK.

I have one of these and i love it! I love the focus mechanism. It is very smooth and is a genius design.
Yes it is a simple and functional camera.
These Flexarets are extremely undervalued. Quality-wise they compare to Rolleiflex cameras.
Yes, I absolutely agree. A very fascinating and well working camera.
That was my question. Are the lenses sharp, and you just told me they are. Thanks
@@rickrogers728 Yes, as far as we can see, the lenses are in good condition.
I use Flexaret camera's for years now, I really love them. I have a few with a Mirar Lens (like yours) which is a Triplet lens but I rather use the more "modern" Belar which is a Tessar type lens. Indeed very well build camera's but after all those decades most are in dire need of some cleaning, unless you buy one that has been refurbished already by the seller. I keep a Flexaret IV and VI in the running, they both have the same Belar lens but the Flexaret VI has automatic cocking of the shutter when you wind the film on, which is nice. The things is that they are cheap, quite easy to find online and give very good results. And if something goes bad it's not terrible to fix them yourself, even the more advanced Flexaret VI is not beyond the reach of ordinary people to fix it yourself. I had a IV with a non functioning film transport (the film did not stop automatically at the next frame like it should when wound) and while it took me some thinking to figure out what exactly was going wrong I found it out and it was an easy fix. These are build to last.
Thank you so much for your pleasant and informative comment, I really appreciate it. I also bought a Flexaret IV, and like you, my son and I fumbled a bit to set it correctly so that the film transport stops at the next frame. I agree with you that the Flexaret cameras are very fine cameras. Many of them were sold here in Norway. The other day, I was contacted by an old journalist colleague who had bought one in 1960. He sold it fairly soon, but a few years ago he ordered an old camera from Czechoslovakia. For nearly 30 years, I worked with black and white photography in Norwegian newspapers. It's fun to have taken up this form of photography again. There's something very special about black and white pictures. Good luck with your Flexaret cameras and photography!
I have tried everything. I have tried ISO alcohol and reflashing the with new filmware and nothing worked with my batteries not being recognized. I had tried using sand paper inside but didnt' seem to work. I tried your method with some 500 grit thats all I had in the pen method and this worked right away! Thank you for taking the time to make the video.
Thank you very much for your message. I am happy to hear that my video could help you.
