    My wife would bring home Phalaenopsis orchids that they would throw out after the blooms die from her office. I would revive them and give them away now I have Cattalya Madness and 60 under led lights all started over 2 years ago my wife thinks in losing my mind

      It always starts with a phal and before you know it, it's cattleyas, then something harder or more exotic. They reward us, and sometimes die so it's almost like a gamble right? When you see a bud or spike you get a dopamine hit 🤣 We have issues 😂

    Just now seeing this. Love love love as I’m running out of room. First orchids after Phals: Oncidiums, which are easier than Phals for me, first complex, then summer, then Cattleyas, which I’m still working out for my growing space, next will be a compact Dendrobium kingianum. As always, love your vids! ❤❤❤

    I'm with you. I started with phals and must have killed three. Then I switched to cattleyas; I find them much more rewarding. Not that phals aren't nice, but I really want an orchid to be fragrant. Could you do a video on fragrance? I like the more citrusy scents; some floral scents are too heavy. Your favorite fragrant orchids and a characterization of their scents would be interesting.

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  Рік тому +3

      A video on fragrance is a good idea. I'm gonna give it some thought and see what I can put together here. I have a strong memory of some of my orchids being rosey or lemony and some I forget or don't know how to describe, but I can have fun with this, thanks for the idea!

    Got a Vanda falcata that smells like Jasmin and a Oncidium twinkle that smells like Vanilla. They both started out small. In the beginning Vanda falcata was a mystery. I was having a hard time to understand it, but now it has grown huge. As for Oncidium twinkle, it was pretty easy, just need to keep up with the watering.

    Zygonisia hybrids might be another to consider. They seem to be more compact than zygos yet still can have that amazing strong fragrance and bloom for a decent length and frequently twice a year. And are not expensive.
    Just to make clear for the Den Angel Baby Little Darling, are you saying it does not need a cool winter rest to bloom? I found it for sale at normans orchids and it lists it as a warmth tolerant nobile mini orchid. There seems to be so much conflicting Den rest info for Den orchids. Rest, no rest, cool, no cool just dry. I thought nobile types need cool and dry but for all I know dry and reduced day length can trigger blooming too. Plants so are adaptable.

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  Рік тому

      Will need to try them out!

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  Рік тому +1

      For the den angel Baby little darling it doesn't need a dry period to bloom, I'm not sure why but I went by Normans orchids care directions when I googled it, and it bloomed just fine. I haven't tried to make sense of it all, but lately I notice I get blooms as long as I don't fertilize during rest, the cold temps may not be needed 😂 it's so so confusing.

    It looks like your dendrobium angel baby is in semi hydro? My latouria types are doing well in it, but I have another miniature variety (cherry dance) that grew like crazy and keiked herself but would not bloom. I just changed her and the new keiki over to organic media yesterday. Hoping that coming close to dry before watering does the trick. 🙏
