This guy rips! If you think about the long history of homophobia in the skate culture, it makes sense to provide a platform for great skateboarders like Chandler to challenge these views. Ironically, skateboarding has always been seen as a countercultural activity, often not accepted by society at large. We become the enforcers of dominant culture when we judge people for simply being themselves and pursuing what brings them joy. Let's live and let live, homies.
There is no "long history of homophobia" in skating. Stop using exceptions to prove the rule.

@@charlesmiv3842 I did. 15 years skating between 1997 and the early 2010's. There was no supposed "culture" of homophobia. Yes, you might have had homophobic individuals that skated, but this was not something unique to skateboarding or embedded/enforced in the culture.
In fact skateboarding and my exposure to it made me a lot more open minded in general to people of all backgrounds and let to me meeting and befriending them.
The problem is your kind wants to take exceptional cases, blow them out of proportion and use this prove some ideological point you're trying to hard to reach for.
When in reality the skate community, if you asked most people (and yes this too is a generalization) they would argue it has always been a force for unity and inclusion as a whole.

Chandler seems like such an incredible individual. i relate so much to a lot of what he said about growing up. im a bi trans guy, but sometimes i wonder if i'm genderfluid, because i enjoy crossdressing and dressing as a man in feminine clothes, but don't like being gendered as she. gender and sexuality becomes so confusing when society forces you to label yourself :')
last year at copenhagen open everyone was trynna get in to the last contest and i remember him giving me at pass to get in and everyone rushing to get one but he said ladies first and gave em to some friends

As another gay guy who grew up around skateboarding, I'm so glad this was made. I didn't even know about There or this group. Granted, I don't like in California, and I never got good at it so I mostly just longboat now. But it's cool to see there being more representation in the scene.
Super stoked to see this coverage. It’s made being openly gay in skating much easier. Love hearing them share their story overcoming addiction. Sometimes I feel as a gay skater, we are invisible still. Passing is a HUGE PRIVILEGE, but I feel I have to wear a wig, or a crop top, a jock or leather when I skate to have my stuff recognized p. Overall I’m really glad trans, non-binary and lesbian skaters have space and opportunity, we needed that culturally. Let’s keep pushing boundaries and inspiring each other!

The look his mother gave him 451, oof I know that look. The pain in their eyes, it's awful. One of the things that helped me to get sober as well. And I hope I never forget that look. " Those who forget their past are doomed to repeat it."

I saw him for the first time on the UA-cam League Skateboarding, or whatever it's called, that Gifted Hater put on. I thought he was just a homie, then he did a huge backside flip ally-oop over this skatepark gap*. I looked him up and realized he was REALLY good. I saw some stuff with the geisha makeup, but actually thought it looked rad.
All this to say, I came to see him as just a gnarly skater and didn't even know he was gay. So his hopes of being known bc of his skating and not his sexual orientation worked; at least for me. He seems like an artistic, friendly, rad guy!

Impressive! I was one of the first skaters back in the early '60s, when we attached rink-boot trucks to homemade boards and played grabass with cars. Still carrying the scars from falls on asphalt that would literally kill me today.
I hope Chandler's parents are justifiably proud of the good man he's become -- mentoring young gay and lesbian skaters literally saves lives in a culture that too often hates what it can't understand.
