I would have used the 5 GHz radio for the mesh and the 2.4 GHz radio for the clients.

2.4 GHz is sometimes used because of it's ability to get longer range under tougher conditions.

@@bradkaral1188 You may be right about having to use less airtime with fewer clients (nodes only).

Thanks for the video. Any idea why my main router's access point disable when the dumb access point disconnects?

I will connect Computers to each of the two routers.
The structure is roughly as follows:
    Modem ---- Router1
    +------------------------Router2
    +---- PC1 +---- PC2
    +---- IPTV
    (and Phones moving)
Both routers will maintain a wired connection. (Signal is too weak to connect wirelessly)
In this case, can I disable DHCP on Router 2? are there no problems for PC2 using the Internet?

Thanks, good information, can you upload an video on to add a old router to the existing MESH network. In my case, I have a TP Link Deco XE 75 (2 piece), and have couple of old routers, the latest one is Netgear R6400 AC 1750. My question is how can i add the Netgear R6400 to the mesh?

interesting for my old devices - but is it compatible with the original mesh of avm fritzbox? or have i flash the fritzbox too with the openwrt-firmware?

What is the difference between this Mesh network and a router with WiFi extension capabilities?

    • @maytinhtrannhan
      @maytinhtrannhan 11 місяців тому +3

A mesh network and a router with WiFi extension capabilities serve similar purposes, but they have distinct differences in how they achieve network coverage and performance. Here are the key differences between the two:
      1. **Topology**:
      - **Mesh Network**: In a mesh network, multiple devices called nodes or access points are interconnected to create a web-like structure. Each node communicates with nearby nodes to relay data, forming a self-healing network. Mesh networks can be wired or wireless, and they distribute the network load evenly across nodes.
      - **Router with WiFi Extension**: In this setup, you have a primary router connected to your modem, and then one or more additional devices (usually called WiFi extenders or repeaters) are used to extend the WiFi coverage. These extenders communicate directly with the router, essentially repeating the WiFi signal to expand coverage.
      2. **Scalability**:
      - **Mesh Network**: Mesh networks are highly scalable. You can add more nodes to the network to increase coverage or improve performance. The network dynamically adjusts to accommodate new nodes without significant configuration changes.
      - **Router with WiFi Extension**: Extenders can help extend coverage, but their effectiveness may diminish as you add more of them. Each extender creates a separate network segment, which can lead to issues with roaming and device handoff between different access points.
      3. **Seamless Roaming**:
      - **Mesh Network**: Mesh networks are designed for seamless roaming. Devices can switch between nodes without interruption, and the network manages the handoff transparently. This is important for maintaining a consistent and reliable connection as you move around your home or office.
      - **Router with WiFi Extension**: WiFi extenders may not offer seamless roaming by default. Some systems are designed to support roaming, but it may not be as smooth or efficient as in a mesh network.
      4. **Network Management**:
      - **Mesh Network**: Mesh systems often come with user-friendly management apps that make it easy to monitor and control your network, including features like parental controls, device prioritization, and guest network setup.
      - **Router with WiFi Extension**: Managing a network with multiple extenders can be more complex, as each extender may have its own settings and configuration. Centralized management can be limited compared to dedicated mesh systems.
      5. **Performance**:
      - **Mesh Network**: Mesh networks are generally better at distributing the network load and providing consistent performance throughout the coverage area. They often use dedicated backhaul channels for communication between nodes, which can improve overall speed and reliability.
      - **Router with WiFi Extension**: Performance can be more variable with extenders, as they rely on the strength of the original router's signal. Extenders may also introduce some latency and reduced throughput.
In summary, while both mesh networks and routers with WiFi extension capabilities can improve WiFi coverage, mesh networks are typically more effective at creating a seamless, scalable, and high-performance network, especially in larger or more complex environments. However, they may be more expensive than a basic router with extenders. The choice between the two depends on your specific needs and budget.
