Pro Colorado Tip: Where ever you find your dream cabin, try to choose an unincorporated county like Park County (Bailey, Fairplay, Town of Jefferson). The sales taxes in Park County are far far less than counties like Boulder, Denver or Jeffco (Golden, Morrison, Conifer, etc.). This will save you a TON of money! We grew up in the Denver metro area before moving to Bailey and the move saved us thousands per year on things like property tax, car registration and even the purchase of our house. Good luck and I'm really excited for you guys!
Don't you pay the sales tax if you visit & buy stuff in those areas though? And property taxes are very low in Denver metro compared to TX (where they're from). But yeah the car registration everything is surprisingly high.
Remote Colorado is someplace I really enjoy visiting. But I choose to live outside Boulder. For the little things, like grocery stores, cell service, internet, bookstores. Hospitals, urgent care centers, you know - the little things. :) Welcome to Colorado.
Allison getting in the hot tub was the funniest thing 😂 I live in Finland by the coast and love ice swimming, saunas, and hot tubs so the wind and a toasty hot tub would suit me really well 🫢
A tip for opening champagne is to put a towel over the cork. You firmly hold the cork and rotate and "unscrew" the bottle. This way the cork is trapped underneath the towel and you have much more control of opening the champagne. Cheers!
Beautiful. I'm not a tidy enough person to have open shelving like that. Plus stuff could get dusty/dirty if it's not used frequently, and I don't want to have to wash it every time before I even use it. You do look like you are loving Colorado.
Colorado native here with a recommendation! I highly recommend looking near Buena Vista and the surrounding areas. Easy access to both Colorado Springs, Denver, and ski towns, but is FAR more affordable and incredibly beautiful. It is a great spot that we go to often for weekend getaways! Has a cute old downtown with Eddyline Brewery, is close to several hot springs, and is situated right next to the Arkansas River and Collegiate Peaks. Being from Colorado Springs I am also partial to the Woodland Park area too!
TV's above the fire look great but are a pain in the neck to watch. An option you may want to look at when you build your own place is mounting the TV on a lowering bracket, so you can pull it down to a comfortable position when actually watching it, or leave it high when it is on for background or workouts.
Hi Allison. I work in wine and can confirm that you can open sparkling wine safely at home by twisting the bottle on a flat surface and gently cupping and lifting the cork with your hand over it. No fear!
I lived in South Park for four years as a child and for another four years in the early 2000’s. You have to like winter 6 months of the year in order to live there. Check out the area around Fremont County northwest of Canon City. It is mountainous but cheaper land and more temperate climate. It’s also only an hour from Colorado Springs!
Make sure you go to Royal Gorge and drive across the bridge! Definitely visit Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, it’s definitely different to climb a mountain to visit the animals but it’s beautiful here in Colorado and I wish you all good luck with whatever you decide to do!
Good choice for a rental. For Colorado mountains February is usually the coldest. March and April usually the snowiest. Stay aware of altitude when looking at property. The higher you go, the more snow you get - like 8 months of snow for 9000ft and above. I think 7500ft with south-facing exposure is an ideal mix of all we have to offer. Enjoy the exploring. Just one pro tip for you - quality sunglasses. Please get some. Sun glare can be problematic. Love you guys.
I hope you guys make it down to Durango Colorado, such a fun little town that I could see you guys liking… Pagosa Springs and Telluride are musts too ❤🌵
I have lived in Colorado my whole life, and I love it❣️❣️❣️ I been all around the states and even out of the country, but Colorado is definitely home. I live on the western slope in Grand Junction. Surrounded by the Grand Mesa, the Book cliffs, and the Colorado Monument! Everything you ever dreamed of doing is within an hour away. I sure hope you two get over here before you settle down. I know you will live it. I love watching your amazing adventures and never miss a video❣️ You guys are my heros❤️❤️❤️ Good luck in your new adventure.🥳🥳🥳
Be sure to stop in Cortez, CO for some great wine!! My brother owns & operates Yellow Car Country Wines in Cortez. I can personally vouch for the wine there. It is so good!
To open Champagne, don’t pop the cork, slowly twist the cork off. You can use a dish towel, to cover the cork. You’ll hear a satisfying poof, and the bottle will be a perfect pour. Please just make sure, wherever you buy, have a good water source, with a reliable well, or town water. Even though there’s snow, high altitude desert is common. 🤷♀️
I seem to recall a recommendation that you hold the cork and unscrew the bottle from it, to avoid unnecessary wastage. I’ve never tried it mind you, as I wouldn’t waste money buying a bottle, as I have always considered Champagne to be extremely overrated.
The Snitching Lady Distillery in Fairplay is awesome! Ask for Sam to make you an old fashioned. You won't be disappointed. We looked at property there and the locals all said they get very bad high winds. We thought our cabin was going to blow away that night. They weren't lying!
FYI helpful hint for your next bottle of champagne...hold a towel on the cork and twist the bottle instead. The cork will "pop" into your toweled hand. Good luck and God bless your journey.
One hand around cork to hold it steady. With the other hand rotate the bottle. The goal is to "burp" the bottle, not blast the cork as far as possible.
I LOVE visiting SW Colorado, but think you guys are definitely looking in the right region - especially with your travel needs. My personal dream spot is somewhere near Buena Vista. It's a slightly longer drive to the airport than the Jefferson/Fairplay area, but still less than half a day. Not quite as elevated/cold, but has a similar valley surrounded by mountains feel. And there's just more day-to-day niceties nearby. Plus far more warm weather activities with the Arkansas river and lots of nearby 14ers.
Alison, drape a small kitchen towel over the cork, then slowly turn the cork (your hand is on the outside of the towel) while slowly pushing it up and out of the bottle. Slow, steady, towel over the cork.
Fun and the best way to open Champagne is to keep hold of the cork as you pull it out. As for the cabin - a delight save for that ridiculous TV half way up the wall - placed so as to be watched from the kitchen whilst cooking, rather than relaxing on the couch. One thing I wonder is whether Eric and Alison ever read ?
Glad to hear you're giving SW Colorado a look. I love its proximity to the whole 4 Corners region and all the wonders there. It's generally cheaper than anywhere within a few hours of Denver, and it's still within a day of the rest of Colorado.
One thing to also consider when looking for places in Colorado is the wind can get REALLY BAD in spots for long periods of time throughout the year and it can make certain time really unpleasant.
Always important when you’re looking remote- the community and people are just as important if not more! You’ll need your neighbors, money won’t fix every problem. So if you run through a community and feel unsure, or don’t like what you’re hearing in a diner pass on. Also consider the long term basics- is there a solid physician, dentist etc pharmacy. An hour or two sounds simple to drive into the city but it’ll get old real fast and may not be possible in an emergency situation.
17:34 I have decided my patreon money this week paid for the time it took to add the sample of the record crackle before the musics. Great touch, great vid, amazing cabin. Hope you two are doing ok after your rough times. Warm wishes from Berlin ✨
Thanks so much, Keir (for the comment and support)! We're definitely feeling a bit better being back out on the road and having some wacky adventures like old times 😊
Nice place for sure. Colorado is beautiful and I've enjoyed it many times. One thing is they have lots of rattlesnakes. My dog was bitten and we spent time at the vet. The dog turned out OK, but...I HATE being around rattlesnakes.
Oh jeez! We didn't realize there were rattlesnakes out here 😳 I guess we've only ever been out this way in the colder months so we've never had to worry about them. Good thing to keep in mind though 🐍
Love the cabin! I live, at 8400 elevation, about two hours south of where you are, close to the Sangre de Cristo mountain range! Mountain life is the best life! Best wishes on your search!
Always love the videos, really want to get out and explore some states outside the PNW!! But Allison, where the heck do you buy clothes?? You always look so darn good!! The jumpsuit, the bathing suit, all your dresses!!

Hi Eric and Allison Congratulations 1st and for most for the property way to go hope you have lots of things planned I would put a plow truck on your priority list of things to buy and a chain saw too so you can split and cut your wood and mill that you can cord up the wood too
Yep, figured you would end up looking south or west as Denver front range is nuts. Buena Vista and Salida is great area with rafting and climbing and hiking etc.

Great video you guys while you guys are out in freezing cold Colorado regards from Panama is 90 degrees to hot im here on vacation. I remember my winter hot tub experience In Poconos Pennsylvania also snow and a family of deer came up to hot tub for food we feed them chicken nuggets hope that was ok. Be safe out there safe travels.
I could live in that cabin, although I would be thinking people are looking in (especially if I was in the bathroom). I agree with Allison, walking on a frozen lake is scary. I did that once when I was younger, until I heard the ice cracking (luckily I was close to the edge).
See this is one of the reasons I watch you guys. Fun facts. I never knew South Park was based on an actual town. It does look like a cool place to visit... when it's open
Ahhh another place I LOVE!! I have only explored SW Colorado. Went snowboarding in Durango, and then drove up the 550 as far as Ridgeway. Stunning place. Can't wait to see the next vlogs! Enjoy. From North Wales xx

I was about to say the same! Love it!! Alison, where did you get your jumpsuit?
It's really Allison that made that jumpsuit look good.

Yep! You beat me to it! I'm the one who opens all sparkly wine and it's fun once you get the hang of it.

Check out black canyon. Colorado's version of the grand canyon. Beautiful granites cliffs. I think you'll like it.
Im from Florida, used to live in Loveland Co. It's where my heart will always be. Nothing as beautiful as Colorado.

We often have clouds below us. And CO is the sunniest state which always surprises people.
When my family lived in Alaska, the sniw bliwing across the road was known as "snow snakes" (The snow snakes are really out in force today).
*snow blowing
Hi from UK, a tip I was told to uncork Champagne is, don't twist the cork, but twist the bottle and its a lot easier to open. And by the way it works.
I was born in Colorado. Early childhood in Conifer, Colorado. Then my BA in Durango Colorado- a gem!!!! Shhh don't tell lol
Make sure you go to Royal Gorge and drive across the bridge! Definitely visit Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, it’s definitely different to climb a mountain to visit the animals but it’s beautiful here in Colorado and I wish you all good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Love the Jefferson/Fairplay area! If you do end up purchasing property there, just wait for the fall colors in the aspen forests. It’s so beautiful.

@@patriciaburke6639 the same goes for any sparkling wine. 😊 yes twisting either, the bottle or the cork, will work. The trick is slow and steady.
