Looks like we vashtorr/Daemons engines fans are going to eat pretty damn fine.
Old Vashtorr has a really neat defensive rule too, weapons fired at him from within 18” get the hazardous special rule. Also accurse cultist get a rule similar to the khorne berserker rule where if they loose a model in shooting phase they move towards the nearest enemy unit except it’s not optional so you could pull them off objects with careful unit placement.
Finally! Hopefully Vashtorr himself gets a buff but this is great regardless
Thank the Dark Omnissiah
Now it's time to cook some spicy Armys"
@@GM-rs2fv the omnissiah would be proud of us, our blessed machine and our eternal search of grand knowledge.
May Kelbor-Hal reign eternally over the mechanicum.
Damn, that Demonic Possession strategem looks fun as hell!
My three Venomcrawlers, two Helbrutes, Maulerfiend, and two Vindicators are very pleased.
Venomcrawlers are going to be fantastic here, and the Khorne Lord of Skulls seems like an auto-include. If it loses 25 points, even the Heldrake is positively efficient if it can get 2 rounds of its flamer off. Going to be a ton of fun to run this detachment.
Too bad gw doesn't want to buff fliers
@@superkamigoru Thank Lord the hell Drake is one of the very few flying units that have the hover thing
Helldrake with the torrent strat seems nasty as well.
Lord of skull phasing through walls will be terrifying
I have 3 defilers, 3 venom crawlers, 2 helldrakes, 2 forge fiends, 2 mauler fiends, vashtor and a lord discordant.
My brain just exploded with opportunities….
I hope vashtorr gets a rules update to go better with this detachment
Yes please.
There's a leak about that had him pretty buffed
Vashtorr is now very good (statline) and has a great disruptive aura. But... he doesn't combo at all with the detachment unfortunately, which is absolutely lame
lorewise: given we have darkmech and iron warriors - vashtorr is on a pretty solid way to ascend into a deity and "replace" malice as the fith god
Hopefully Perturabo shows up too
I'm going to possess my Helbrutes. 2x Dark Pact boon, plus invoking contracts seems fun.
Where the hell was the guy who made this codex when custodes were being worked on?
It's like GW has two guys writing rules, and one of them is an unpaid intern.
Nah, one's a rules writer and the other is an intern, both are working from sticky notes that got loose from other game systems 😂
Vashtorr as he is is actually pretty nuts in this new detachment. His 6 inch +1 str aura makes forgefiends wound redemptors or any t10 on 2s, and venomcrawlers wound gravis or any t6 on 2s.
uh finally we can get sort of "demonengines" back.
Converted my rhinos and vindicator to look like demon posessed vehicles back in 4th edition XD and then the rule went away :D
Well looking like they got codex team A…
They got Codex Team C
The C stands for "Codex Good", and, of course, "Chaos"
This single detachment is better written than the whole DA or AdMech codexes
@@GM-rs2fv And nids lol
Vashtorr got me to finally vibe with Chaos Marines so Im stoked for this
Looks interesting. I have always loved vashtorr
Forgefiend goes pew pew
It do be like that
Currently working on Vashtorr! Can't wait to run this detachment!
I have been playing defiler at tournaments for like 4 months now, he is already solid, with help from termie sorcerer, he dishes solid amount of dmg, and his tankshock is awesome.
In one turn, i killed doomsday ark on range, finished illuminor szeras with tank shock. Piled in and finished 7 woud c'tan. 700 pts in one turn.
This will make it almost insane.
But this rule as written, does not work on actual vashtor btw.
Demonic Possession is such a non-GW rule but so much fun
Im still holding out hope that this detachment allows for use of other chaos faction daemon engines, like soulgrinders and blight haulers.
I was just wondering if Soul Grinders would gel well with this detachment
The only daemon engine based on the sturmtiger
If only ally Chaos Knights could be demonically possessed . . .
it does not say its not allowed. but lets see when it ge released. (i hope so the can)
Yeah this army should benefit chaos knights too
@@darko-man8549 Why would it affect chaos knights? It's heretic astartes vehicles only.
@@boog6x if so, one could have a demonically possessed

Despoiler full of guns with +1 to wound
Or any of the war dogs doing their thing for much cheaper.
@@smatting2627
You can still make them buffed, but need to use CP for them🤔
Let’s go daemon engine army here we come!
That detachment rule likes fantastic along with tempting addendum. I will admit the stratagems don't cause any excitement but I'm looking forward to giving this a shot.
Looks like Vashtorr finally got something good
Time to paint that last venom crawler
Warpsmith with tempting addendum hiding behind 3 Forgefiends. Lord Of Skulls for extra silliness
We need some lore on how Vashtorr's powers affect the Necrons.
They're using necrontyr/necrodermis tech which is pretty anti-warp by nature; so he likely cant do much or anything to them tbh.
Well Custodes are on suicide watch now after seeing this... Just salt in the wound at this point...
Watching this as I build Custodes Guard…
DA player here. You’re not alone brother
As a chaos knights player I'm a bit upset that this detachment gets an equivalent to our knights of shade stratagem (I recognize that ours does it for two wardogs instead of one daemon engine but still). Knights of shade is essentially the only decent rule we have besides solid datasheets so this detachment feels like it is a flat better option over CK.
Unstoppable Rampage...When I use it I’m gonna yell “Oh Yeah!” kool aid man style!
The Dark Artificer is eating good this edition.
Let's hope his unit is made decent enough to actually run.
I pretty much just wait for AT to get my Warhammer 40k news 🙂
Wonder if CSM will get a new daemon engine at some point. The existing kits are mostly fine so no reason to redo them.
Forgot about the defiler didn't you?
@@alexbell3034 I said mostly 🙂
The Soul grinder is an absolutely foul sculpt... And not in the loveable nurgle way.
@@Szt1998 second the soul grinder being a horrible sculpt
Hellbrute with 18 attacks dred powerfist at s12 with lethal and sustained hits with possible 2+ hit and rerolls to hit if you got a warpsmith with addendum near. Also ap -3 if your throw in desperate rage
I wondered what would be best for my 6 Daemon engine army + Iron Warriors + vidicator, now I guess Soulforged Warpack, and just give the tank Daemonic Possession. I didn't read any restrictions so I don't HAVE to use vashtorr?
Just tried the detachment this lorning. The amount of fails from an invoke is devastating. That 7+ test is brutal. The sequence change to dark pact mortals is so significant. It really lowers your damage on small units to where its noticiable.
Losing marks and the 5+ crit is such a bother too. No protrction plus no movement boost for your big threats is brutal. Leaves your army vulnerable to whatever comes their way that you heavily rely on the 5+ invul entirely which is pretty bad.
Good tips are using a Lord Disco to grant those 12" auras for cp regen or my reocmmendation the 6+ FNP. Not a big dreal, but a venomcrawler plus a disco can really hold down a point.
Lazcannons have a big boost to damage for range. You absolutely need maulerfiends and defilera for most of the strategems available. Sadly you lose the +1 to wound in melee, so you need need NEED very heavy melee to make the most out of it. You'll be tank shocking a lot. So you'll want at least good preservation of melee units and less of a gunline. So a 50/50 ratio of range to melee focus would help the army drastically. Vashtor is not a joke here, but he isn't really a highlight of the army at all. He'll make a decent distraction piece and can hold down an OBJ. But against Melee armies and monster spam, he'll be reverted to his useless state.
The army is all about hitting hard and tossing big units into enemies hoping that your stuff survives and trades better then the enemy your opponent. Which as a defensive player is very unfun for me.
Lone ops and aura that turn off shooting force your big melee threats up close which opens them up to a lot of damage. Venomcrawlers and Heldrakes are your prefered secondary units, keep in mins the heldrake has no OC so they cannot capture OBJs, but they can do actions quite reliably with that 20 inch movement. The boosts to attacks combined with the anti fly can be devastating to aeldari, drukhari, jetpack units, warptalons(which is a great thing since they're gonna be spammed a lot.), so they aren't useless as specific unit hunters when it comes up.
Haven't used a LoS yet but it absolutely wants a lone op Warpsmith hugging its behind since we lose dark obscure. Remember a lot of the vehicles have the smoke keyword. So smokescreen is your best friend. The terrain movement is NIT AS GOOD AS IT SEEMS. YOU NEED TO MEASURE THE WIDTH OF THE MODEL combined with the size of the terrain it is passing through, so you absolutely need high movement, charge rolls, advance rolls, to make it through otherwise your model ends up in the wall which is ILLEGAL. So its only good against thin terrain never through an entire building.
The glut strat doesn't seem to help much. Not unless you use it on lightfantry specifically and the 5+ rolls make it heavily unreliable for recovering wounds. Never use it on elite as you're gambling to kill 1 to 2 elites at best. Which you still need to roll the 5+ to heal.
The reactive move seems dogdoo. The fact that you can't tie up any shooting with engagement is horrible. When thats your entire goal with big beefy units. If an oppone t gets that close to your units they are absolutelt going for your models' heads. No point in exposing yourself more for further shooting, losing cover, and promising them a free charge.
Flamers are pretty good in this detachment as the +1 to wound is quite nuts. I would not recommend the hit RR enhabcement unless you decide to spam warpsmiths on the table because Vashtorr will take his due and he is very brutal with his contracts.
With this detachment you are basically hoping and praying to roll good all game. Which leaves little room for pilot skill to overcome bad rolls since you can get into a famine state very quickly if you don't. Once you start losing momentum you'll be either gambling for high damage, which potentially speeds up your "tabled state" or desperately trying to preserve what you have left by ignoring your contracts which is giving up your offensive power.
Once this army gets into a pinch, it is significantly harder to overcome it compared to the marks style play we had previously.
You’re welcome for the leak, the rest out in the morning
Well thank you if that was you. Looks like I've got Dread Talons to talk about now haha :D
Always a good day when we see a COOL detachment
As I'm watching this, the whole CSM codex just leaked lmao
Hey, my Hellforged Contemptor is back in business! Until they kick it to Legends, anyway.
Vashtorr already buffs Daemon Engines, so he just needs to be pointed right to fit into this nicely. I suppose Abaddon gives him some competition because he can hand out Dark Pact re-rolls, but unless you can hide him he'll need a retinue which is less Daemon Engines. Venomcrawlers are big winners if they stay cheap since they get plenty out of both the melee and shooting buffs. Getting the right number of Warpsmiths in the right place will be clutch with all that self-harming going on, there's going to be a lot of competition for their repair/ +1 to hit buff.
Don't forget the venom crolwer it is super under rated with the amount of shots & attacks u get foe the ponts its a crazy gd unit
Run 2 to feed each other atks. And now u can have the warpsmith runnwith them. Lookout.
Did we get both buffs when we invoke our Dark Pact? I mean sustained or lethal hits + the invoked buffs?
you will likely have to pick either sustained or lethal, and then add the invoked buffs after. However, if helbrute keeps the same rules you can gain both sus+lethal
Smoking on that soulforged warpack
Are they really leaks anymore? At this point it's a bit obvious that GW is behind these "leaks".
EDIT: I mean really, people have been itching to see how Vashtorr's detachment is, and all of a sudden, we have this perfect leak about every detail with nothing missing? Everything is readable with nothing even slightly too blurry to read? Also right after an article talking about how people might want to pick up some Heldrakes?
But why not do it through official channels if it is GW proper? Especially when the constant leaks were a large part of the mass firing of playtesters last edition.
@@135forte It's seem more and more like they fired the playtesters to save some money with how things turned out towards the end of 9th and how quite a few codexs in 10th have been steaming dogshit.
Also have you seen the images for this "leak"? Some of the most pristine leaked images I've ever seen with no blur or anything. This is a great marketing tactic, because it draws in a hell of a lot more people than a WarCom article *and* they don't have to have anyone write said article in the first place.
@LychgateWraith 9th had issues the other way. Dæmons was a dumpster fire to name the worst offender.
And they are still paying someone to upload these images, with the same amount of coverage being given to them by the news outlets. This sort of leak is what places like Waha use to provide free rules early, which GW very much doesn't approve of. I could see them endorsing something like the 9e T'au AMA thread, but even tha was wasted PR if they did. There is zero reason for GW to not try to act the hero for giving out this information, especially when people are being pissy about the price increases
Pretty neat stuff.
If you want to be fun and fluffy a soulgrinder of Nurgle could possibly also benefit from some of this stuff - the move through terrain and Fallback strats i think depending on the wording.
Sadly they cant go pacting.
ok just found the leak, all strats say Heretic astartes deamon vehicle - so i was wrong about the soul grinder. My bad.
Can’t wait to run this with my KLOS!
I like that detachment, curious to see how vashtorr himself does
Does this apply to allied units like Fellblades? Because if so, Chaos Knights just got interesting.
Looks like interesting detachment
What are the specific keywords for targeting with Daemonic Possession? If you added a dreadblade knight to your chaos marines list would it be a legal target for that? Because thats sounds awesome!
Does this mean the Lord Discordant is gonna be great again?? I think it might be in this detachment.
Hopefully Abaddons points go down from his nerf and I can stick him next to some Daemon engines with his reroll leadership aura on
Being able to forcibly corrupt a vehicle into a daemon engine is so damn fluffy, and I love it. Where was this level of lore accurate, but also useable mechanics when the Custodes codex came out?
I mean..."lore accurate" Custodes is not playing them at all because they should be on Terra defending it
So if you fail the leadership test and take the mortal wounds do you still get the enhanced buff?
Finally Vashtorr gets some love😂
soul forgepack i could see them being usefull if going for a daemon engine list with a warpsmith in them . I can see a warpsmith and Maulerfiend being a good combo as any wound the maulerfiend get via darkpack. The Warsmith can heal if in range of them .
Predatory pursuit - would getting within 3" so you can pile in still work? Haven't got many 10th games in yet. Other use I could see for it would be getting something covered in flamers into range for overwatch
No, you need to have charged or be within engagement range to pile in.
So, i know this is dumb, and there arw even reasons why its specifically set up NOT to work this way, but parts of this detachment really just make me wish that it could ally in a Chaos Knight, and then make it a Daemon Engine, assuming it isn't, already?, and pumping some of these bonuses into that. Not to crap on the available Daemon Engines, or other vehicles the Chaos Codex can field, but Chaos Knights can have some serious firepower, and/or melee oomph, heaped upon their chassis, and seem lime just one more thing Vashtorr would love to pour his artifice into.
Beyond that, it's still not sounding quite like the detachment I'd hypothetically want to make CSM army around, but it does sound decent enough, and it will be interesting to see how it fares, once the results start to accrue.
Unfortunately it wouldn't work on the knights because they wouldn't have the Heretic Astartes keyword
The only benefit being a daemon engine has in this detachment is the contract dark pact, but allied knights can't use dark pacts anyway so even if you could use daemonic possession to make them daemon engines it'll never be worth it...
Vashtoor knows I'm gonna be eating good with this one. Give my Vindactor Deamon Vehicle, LoS can actually make use of most of the strategems, only one mid enhancement (points pending) and the Lord Discordant might actually be usable again? Give Vashtoor rules worth his points cost and we're cooking up some SPICY lists.
The 2 Heldrakes, 2 Maulerfiends, 4 Helbrutes, 2 kitbashed Blood Slaughterers, a kitbashed Lord of Skulls, 1 Venomcrawler, 1 Lord Discordant, 3 kitbashed Warpsmiths, and 1 Defiler I have are all very pleased to hear this.
Vashtorr is pleased too
The Lord Discordant feels like a swing and a miss in this detachment unless they change his datasheet to add VEHICLE, which isn't beyond the bounds of possibility. He doesn't really do much that synergises with the rest of the army, unfortunately.
4 helbrutes? Max is 3.
@@Psykroids I can own as many as I want. So there.
@@rutherfordappraisal258 Where's the vashtor dedicated one?! You clearly don't have enough.
Have we got a link to this?
I wonder if the possession one gives the target an invul save since it is now a demon
Daemonic Possesion could be broken, depending on wording. Imagine being able to put it on a Chaos Knight.
Chaos Knights don't get pacts so it wouldn't do much on them.
It only works on Heretic Astartes units
How does gaining the daemon keyword benefit them? I'm not familiar with CSM so.
@@brotherhao4225 lets them use this detachment's ability and strategems
I'm not gonna sugarcoat it.
[ECTOPLASMA CANNON]
Not exciting enough for me to want to pivot to playing CSM, but if I were already a player and had some of these vehicles (which I do for regular marines), I'd be very excited to play this detachment, like I was for Ironstorm with my marines.
Vashtorr finally in the kitchen with these rules. Man I've been getting shafted the last couple codexes too
Man would be cool to use chaos decimators with this
So this is the problem with units providing buffs to everything around it. No risk to the player who groups units up. In Heresy area attacks make that a risk. Bunching up a units in a central location is a tasty target for an artillery bombardment, but current rules are attacking a single unit vs the area.
Depending on where points end up, i can easily see myself pivoting into daemon engines
Is Vashtorr finally online?
Where did you get this info?
Can you bring Chaos Knights in this detachment?
demon engines oh yes please looking for that one just hope points not gonna spike to much
So Chaos engine don't get battleline keyword for this detachment to solidify the detachment ability?
what does battleline matter for?
I'm not sure you're bringing 6 forgefiends a game.
can you make a ally chaos knight a deamon engine with the strat?
Make Defilers great again! I love my stupid, giant robot spider too much.
Predatory Pursuit gets you into Heroic Intervention range.
Wow I see why they waited to unveil this one last. Pretty cool, but could go so bad with the reduced leadership tests and even extra damage.
I’m not really a fan of Vashtoor addition to the setting but this army does look fun
Scary question: Is the KLoS even in the codex?
Please please please let Vashtorr get new rules! Or make him similar price as Maulerfiends if he's barely going to hit as hard as them.
dark mechanicum tears
11th edition, hopefully. Let’s go Perturabo!
OH HELL YEAH
If I wasn't in an escalation league with Custodes rn, Iron Warriors would be on the table.
Is the Soul Grinder in the new book?
Yet the Venomcrawlers are still not sold separately.
What's the logic?
I bought 3 of 3 used
@@frenkuguz6072 Good for you. I was trying to find some on Ebay, but the prices are not that kind.
I bet vashtorr makes daemon engines reroll dark pact rolls in an aura
*laughs in KLOS and Kytan*
idk why vashtorr and daemon engines are in the CSM codex and not chaos demons codex?
makes no sense
Daemon engines are the creations of mortals, daemons themselves cant make them themselves nor do they use them besides soul grinders which are an exception.
And vashtorr isnt a daemon nor a daemon prince, he's a demigod of chaos... he has about as much to do with daemons as abaddon does.
EDIT: realistically they should be in the dark mechanicum codex as that is their own faction... but seeing as that one doesnt exist then CSM is the default
Bolt action rules when?
That’d be super sick
+1 to wound is far too good of an ability to just hand out to every unit in the army like this. This is going to cause serious problems
So no army for vashtor on his own. With new units etc.
id find it funny if Vashtorr still has awful rules and its more optimal to run the detatchment w/o him. He makes a great winged daemon prince proxy anyway so.
Whats the exact wording of the Glut of souls..... Is the 6WD limit, the limit to wounds healed? not the deaths? Killing 8-10 cultists/guardians/kroot/guardsmen etc as a turn 2 target to heal 3-4 wounds (if you are lucky might be worth it. after the beating in turn1).
ALSO allied soul grinders? DAEMON VEHICLES? re enhancements + STRATs + Vashtorrs ability WORDINGS>
Where blood angels
Are deathguard good?
Neither of them are in this codex
@@hickorybane9323 halp I need blood angels
bruh, this makes my dread mob look so weak
FINALLY! I've been waiting for the Daemon Engines to be more fun!
This hands down reinforces my dark mechanicum kitbash urges. Curse you James Workshop! Curse you and the A-tier Codex team for once!
Can you do Deamonic Possession on allied units like Knights or Titans?
No, the strategem specifies its gotta be a heretic astartes vehicle (also the only benefit of the strategem is giving it access to the buffed dark pacts which allied units cant use, and the strategems which also only targets heretic astartes daemon engines... so it'd be a waste of a cp if you could do it)
All those Soulforged enhancements......
Can I just pretend AdMech is DarkMech to stick these on a Datasmith and Kastelan brick?
I'm unclear how detachments work within a faction. Will Thousand Sons be able to use these rules, like Dark Angels can use detachments from their codex, and detachments from Space Marine codex?
I think not; the divergent Chaos Space Marines are treated (AFAIK) as separate factions, unlike the loyalists. I think you could still bring some units as allies, but not the rules.
I mostly collect Xenos armies though, so someone else might know better...
No.
Dark angels got a codex suppliment, meaning instead of a full codex its just an add on which builds off the main codex, so they'll still get access to the main codex.
Thousand sons is getting a full codex, so they'll not be able to mooch off of CSM's codex but will have everything they need in their own one (including anything they borrow from the CSM one like certain units)
@@Swampert919 Ahh ok, thank you
Why is discord lord in this video? He isn't daemon vehicle......... Mounted 💀
