    This was by far the best performance by any band period. ..Art sang his heart out that night. ...the whole band was amazing. ..to bad this video isn't seen by 50, 000, 000 people. ..

    Wow... Don't know how I missed this way back then. Simply amazing... Has to be one of the best musical pieces ever. The performance of the actual music and the lyrics full of real substance. Unbelievable...

    MY FACE was just ripped OFF. WHAT A PERFORMANCE. How can I ever listen to the studio take of this now?

      That performance is so much better because its way more raw and the studio version has those weird artificial fills that everclear never needed but it was the trending at the moment. Live everclear is hard rocking af.

    I saw this the night it aired and it blew me away. This is the best televised performance I have ever seen. The tension in the build up from the verses to the chorus is pure contained rage that explodes through the percussionist and vocals. For years I only had a memory of this performance. So glad I found it on UA-cam.

    This is real music, real art. It has substance, a story, and true meaning in its creation. If only all music could be this purposeful and honest...

    If I had to explain what rock music is to someone who had never heard it before, I would play them this video. There is so much energy and intensity all around the stage in this performance, with everyone on the same wavelength. You can genuinely connect with Art’s pain in his vocals here. I got chills. The gradual builds are so good in this song that you don’t even know what hit you by the time they transition into the chorus. The drummer and percussionist are hitting SO hard. This was an amazing performance that I wish more people could see. This is rock.

    I remember way back when I heard this song for the first time, I was like wow! Other than the birthday card with a $5 bill, this pretty much is the story of my life! One of my favorite songs ever. I guarantee this song has stopped so many kids from that era from Cobaining themselves.

    Just ran across this video. Epic personal rant and how many of us guys can relate to some or all of what Art sings about. Every once in awhile I play this video at max volume to cleanse my soul. And how about those smirks at the 0:50 mark - you would take me to the movies, you would take me to the beach - the sheer level of irony and betrayal in his face.

    Not so long ago up here in Cleveland Ohio, one of the more pop oriented radio stations would sample the "father of mine" phrase from this song as part of their Father's Day promos and I would laugh.

    I was a massive fan during this time period, I tried to hang around for the new band but I just couldn't convince myself I liked any of the music. This is also right before Art totally screwed his voice up, he had vocal surgery right before they recorded Learning How to Smile and he started singing well before he was told he was supposed to...his voice was never the same.

    I'm assuming this is one of Art's last great performances. Right before his surgery... This is about as good as it gets.

      Chubzdoomer what happened?

    • @Chubzdoomer
      @Chubzdoomer 9 років тому +2

      Taylor Kempinski From what I gather, he underwent throat surgery in 1999 and afterwards his live performances were never the same.

      +Taylor Kempinski I've wondered if this performance specifically is what caused the surgery to be necessary, because this strong emotional vocal delivery is on another level. Some guys can get away with using their voices like this, but I guess singing like this 95 - 98 caught up to him. Amazing performance.
