Fun fact: the placenta is, in fact, the baby’s organ. The placenta belongs to the fetus and does everything in its power to burrow to the mother’s blood vessels to provide as much nutrients as possible to the fetus. The mother’s body actively tries to counter these attempts, making it a 9-month long battle of resources between the two, in which the best case scenario is a draw.

I've always said babies are little parasites and I forgot this fact so like..... they're actually parasites.

@@TheSandwichAftermath it's not even a question. any biologist would tell you that yes a fetus is in fact a parasite. It leeches nutrients from it's "host" (the mother) and provides no benefit in return, litterally the textbook definition of a parasitic relationship

If I had a nickel for every time Dan looked up how sharks give birth I would have two nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice

@@miguelnewmexico8641we get oxygen through the placenta. Sharks don't have a proper one, and it was only recently discovered how they do it.
In great whites, at least, it's a uniquely modified uterus that increases the amount of oxygen diffusion.
@@KairuHakubi Honestly, I heard this from a classmate in college a few years back. Sadly I didn't think to research the details of how they are capable of fighting in the womb with (presumably) what little oxygen they have in there, as I was only interested in confirming if they actually do fight.

The placenta eating thing is because it's supposed to replace the hormones/other nutrients that you lose giving birth. I'm not sure if there is actual science behind it or if it's an old wives tale though.

I fell asleep watching this video, and it prompted me to have a dream where I was a detective in a case where a restaurant came out with a new "vegan meat" that everyone was eating, but the "vegan meat" was actually unborn babies and placenta. It was WILDLY successful, there were huge lines of people who came to try it and didn't understand how it tasted so much like real meat but was completely "vegan". That's when me and my detective partner got involved, interrogating the creator and the chefs at the restaurant to find scientific documents and sneaking into the kitchens to take samples of the food. The case was never solved.

Don’t know about other places but here in Australia we have lots of fish and chip shops, and pretty much every single one of them serves shark as an option, it’s called flake. And I think it’s the second most common fish to order behind cod.

See, here's what I think happened with the flail.
Arin respawned, and the flail respawned with him. But the programmers just used the default physics settings without thinking about it. So from the perspective of the flail, it moves from the location where Arin died, to the location he respawns in an instant, giving it insanely high velocity and, therefore, insanely high momentum, which caused the shark to spin wildly and the game physics to be broken until the drag function slowed it down to manageable levels.
I notice this a lot in games where characters have flowy clothes or capes, they spawn somewhere and their clothes go CRAZY.
Need to play Maneater. Dan could sing the song and be petrified at the same time.
I love when they play games like this, they have the most insightful conversations in these episodes.
