Do you really think companies can sell a vehicle like this for $12K, but they just sit in a board room cackling behind wisps of cigar smoke saying things like; "Hahahaha, we've got them now! Charge $30K for it and lets buy a bohemian island!" Rarely...RARELY do companies charge more than they can. Key word, "can" when they do, it's only cause they can! That usually happens in established markets with products that become desirable from appeal or features/quality. I.E. You have to almost beg people to buy them and pray for government incentives! If they could charge 10 grand, I think they would in a heartbeat! They want to sell bikes! Most if not all companies want to sell as much product as they can make!

I could not help it and I got mine a couple months ago. It is fun and easy to ride. There are dour driving modes - sport, economy, highway and rain mode plus you can program three custom modes (a, b and c). It has loads of power from stop to launch but highway riding can get tedious because you need to hold the throttle steady. Cruise control is a must on the highway but if someone is riding bitch it jolts when coming out of cruise control even when doing so with great care - not too rough but it is noticeable. When riding alone it is not an issue. I love the keyless entry and you never need to touch the brake - in fact you forget you have a brake. When letting off the throttle it gently comes down to zero. The bike is very well thought out. You can lock two helmets under the seat when charging. Bluetooth connection to phone seems pointless. It lets you control your music with left hand bluetooth controls which is nice. One feature that I found annoying is the map. The touch screen is nice - basically an oversized iphone type display but the touch features are disabled while driving. If the phone is paired there is a NAV screen but it will not work with apple map or any map except the harley app and you need to plan your route before heading out. This makes it unusable for me as I NEVER plan a route. I miss my GPS while driving. I use the phone app and a bluetooth headset which you can easily hear as the bike is so quiet but I miss my map. The backseat is usabe but my wife says it is not very comfy - we needed to stop after a half hour and take a stretch. It is real convenient in that you can plug into any charging spot but when using a standard wall charger it takes 7 hours to charge the bike! At a real charging station after an hour it is more than half. I have been going on rides a half hour or less and charge over night and it is so fun to ride. Nothing like it. As the review says it is not perfect - nothing is. For my first electric vehicle I must say I am real glad I got it. The loan through Harley was not so bad - basically like another small car payment but the insurance was a surprise I was not happy about. part of the joy of the harley brand has always been working on them. fixing a this, changing a that, and getting messy and greasy while doing so. real men want to do this because we know what tools are and how to use them and we enjoy doing it. there is something inherently manly about being able to fix machinery, and men tend to get together and do this over a few beers, so there is the bonding of it as well. and it means we get involved with our bikes, and make them truly our own. most millennials dont know a philips screwdriver from a flathead, let alone how to use them. that harley doesnt understand this, and thinks that the hipster duffus generation are going to be customers of harley is staggering. ageing is constant, and "new" old men are always coming through, and need something to ride and tinker on. and we have an ageing population. that harley cant get it right in those conditions is just bewildering.
Pls cover the bike's riding features : turning, rough road handling, breaking, weight limits etc. BTW, unless the power comes from clean energy, nuclear, hydro, solar etc, its charging has a co2 footprint.
Wondering with all these rolling blackouts becoming more and more common, are the charging stations affected? I would have to think so, or they will be eventually. It would suck to be stuck for 16 hours waiting for power to come back on.
Consider that most bike races in the Tour de France have a retail price of $10k or more. Not that you couldn't win with something that costs half as much, but excessive is a relative term. I see no problem with a certain segment of the market buying these. It's just not mainstream and the company may not make money selling so few.
Love the video last video I watched was on the SR zero and the reviewer was comparing it the the live wire and he works with Harley and was so biased it hurtled watching and listening to the whole video. So thank you I definitely appreciate it and I do believe this is definitely overpriced. I'd rather lose so of the outer design to lower the price.
I was excited about the H-D LiveWire when it was first announced. Unfortunately, I did not get selected for a test ride during the "Test Ride Lottery" that H-D ran a few years ago. Last year (March 2019) Lightning Motorcycles in San Jose, CA announced the 2020 Lightning Strike Carbon Edition electric sportbike, which is priced at $20k. I'm more of a sportbike rider than a cruiser rider, so the Strike got my attention. I got a test ride on one and Lightning got my down payment deposit. In September 2019, I took delivery of Lightning Strike #1 (as in the first production model). The Strike is a superb machine in every way with some amazing electric vehicle technology under the carbon skin. It may not have all of the fancy extras that come on a LiveWire, but the Strike is a heckuva lotta fun and I've put a couple thousand miles on it already. #lightningmotorcycles #electricmotorcycles #lightningstrikecarbonedition #livetoride
The LiveWire rides beautifully with terrific sports poise and balance. I'd like to take it into the Snowy Mountains but I'd need to move house. If you live near your great roads then buy one. [AUD$50,000]
That range is an issue, despite what your own experience tells you. I am not a high mileage rider, but often put 200+ miles on a summer weekend day. My wife and I would think nothing of one-way trips of 150 plus for weekend camping. And most of the riders I meet... New York state... have come distances further than 60 or 80 miles, up from New Jersey, or Connecticut or Pennsylvania. With the Live Wire's 95 mile cruising range, it would be severely limiting to most of your average cruising motorcyclists. Your answer, "Then don't buy this bike" is simplistic, but true I think. For $30k, you want a serious motorcycle hobbyist, yet the poor range means those very people would not consider it. EDITED TO ADD: You say that the vast majority of trips are commuters... but in my experience, about 40 miles above New York City and being in commuter traffic very often (to New York City, Long Island, White Plains, and so on...), VERY few of those commuters are on motorcycles. It is the worst place and time to ride, and pretty un-enjoyable and probably far less safe than a weekend cruise. I think most riders take their cars or public transportation to and from work, then enjoy the open roads on the weekends. And a 95 mile range is just far too low for even a leisure ride. Another thing: Even though they may claim 95 miles, it is effectively far shorter than that. I mean, who will happen to pull up to a charging station at exactly 95 miles? I think it would be reasonable to plan a charge stop at least 10 or 15 miles before, so you don't get stuck. So the range is actually about 80 miles, which is virtually unusable for any recreational ride. Then, too, I would expect that the perfect 95 mile range will diminish on the bike. As I understand it, after some use, time and miles, range on electrics decreases. So really, in a year or so, what would this bike be good for? You're not going anywhere new or fun, but probably only using it on the same 30 mile radius, really. And that is just plain poor.
What I don't understand is why these things are so expensive. These ebikes are way overpriced and if they really want people to switch to electric vehicles they better lower the prices.

@@robd1859 things change and being a purist only gets you so far, especially when the writing is on the wall for the coming change. In the meantime you can still go gasoline.
I like the way you ended your narrative. Yes, it seems Harley did this sort of as a "commercial concept" bike, paving the way for future models. But for 30k it should be perfect. Btw how would you directly compare it to the Zero SRF and SRS?
Great review Micah! We read about Harley Davidson in business class and how the company was falling behind with younger demographics with their old school bikes and philosophy - I'm glad to see they're trying something new and innovative, albeit overpriced.
Young people can’t afford something like this.
@@brewhaha1380 they don't want one
And so completely out of the reach of most young people.
All the stops on the "rides" need to start adding chargers.
I wonder were all the lithium ion batteries will end up when they a completely drained with all these new electric vehicles coming out maybe in land fills possibly anyone thought about that? Don't get me wrong i absolutely love old school Harleys and I always will! 🏍️🇺🇲
part of the joy of the harley brand has always been working on them. fixing a this, changing a that, and getting messy and greasy while doing so. real men want to do this because we know what tools are and how to use them and we enjoy doing it. there is something inherently manly about being able to fix machinery, and men tend to get together and do this over a few beers, so there is the bonding of it as well. and it means we get involved with our bikes, and make them truly our own. most millennials dont know a philips screwdriver from a flathead, let alone how to use them. that harley doesnt understand this, and thinks that the hipster duffus generation are going to be customers of harley is staggering. ageing is constant, and "new" old men are always coming through, and need something to ride and tinker on. and we have an ageing population. that harley cant get it right in those conditions is just bewildering.
I want a Harley that blats not hums lol Harley Davidson is making a bad move with this ev bike push and it sucks man!
How long until it gets a fat discount
In metro Atlanta I easily do over 100 miles a day.... Nice bike!!!
great review
I think they should start making ventilators. They'll need it soon !
The shit is about to hit the fan !
Pls cover the bike's riding features : turning, rough road handling, breaking, weight limits etc.
BTW, unless the power comes from clean energy, nuclear, hydro, solar etc, its charging has a co2 footprint.
He didn't say how long it takes to recharge it.
Awesome job, Micah! I’ve really been enjoying your work on all of your channels.
Wondering with all these rolling blackouts becoming more and more common, are the charging stations affected? I would have to think so, or they will be eventually. It would suck to be stuck for 16 hours waiting for power to come back on.
Great point!
Consider that most bike races in the Tour de France have a retail price of $10k or more. Not that you couldn't win with something that costs half as much, but excessive is a relative term. I see no problem with a certain segment of the market buying these. It's just not mainstream and the company may not make money selling so few.
As usual a very balanced review. Love your positive energy. Keep on trucking! Er.....biking?
30k to get auto cancelling turn signals ? A premium feature ?
God, I had them on 1982 Yamaha 550. I think it was available in 1977 on some bikes.
This review makes me want to buy it
I think the look grows on you, but the front turn signals I feel like they don’t go… like they stick them on at the last minute lol
Wow, this is a really good review. I actually felt how the bike feels, just from your words. Thumbs up
Half the reason for a Harley is the signature engine sound. I wouldn't take this electric bike if it were given to me.
Exactly! 💯
They are now trying to make a signature e-sound😂 🤡
what happen to the 'loud pipe save lives' ? it did save mine many many times.. :)
I'd be into one of they could get it down to $8,000. I know that's a bit unrealistic, but that's how they'd get the younger generations into riding.
Watch the series Long Way Up. They drive 2 of these from the tip of South America to LA.
Wow mate great review well spoken
Good review!
Best Harley I've ever owned.
Ditto Craig 👍
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol
Wonder if itd be any good with foward foot controls and apes. Since it reminds me of a sporty abit.
I still like my Vrod!
Looks like someone built an overexagerated cage over an air-conditioner
Lmao it's a unit all right!🤣👍
What would you consider a good middle of the road price range e motorcycle that has freeway speeds
Good review Sir
$30k? It needs to be $28,900 then these sell like hot cakes. Or just go with a cheaper base model and if you want more range features gotta pay more

Here’s hoping for quieter weekends! Sounds nice.
I wondered ho long we would see the smart phone on the holder...I'm watching that 😬
Love the video last video I watched was on the SR zero and the reviewer was comparing it the the live wire and he works with Harley and was so biased it hurtled watching and listening to the whole video. So thank you I definitely appreciate it and I do believe this is definitely overpriced. I'd rather lose so of the outer design to lower the price.
I think it's a Tesla Roaders to Model Y. Cheaper ones are over the horizons
Great review, well done.
I mean I would like to have one, but I rode 220 miles yesterday just out having fun on my Ultra.
Amazing way to put it at the end there.
Bought a brand new one today. $25k out the door. $4700 in rebates.....this bike cost me $20300. It’s worth that.
Do you need to wear the charging cable around your neck?
when you want to sneak out of the house at night and ride around lol
That looks great!
It looks like an orange canon🔝
I have a "slight pulsing sensation" when looking at this bike too... ;)
So if it doesn't have any motor oil, then what is it going to leak?
Spoiler alert……..I like to annoy my neighbors with my REAL Harley!
Come on, it's a HARLEY! you know ya gotta pay for that name brand! Like Prada, Louis Vuitton?
Not! The whole experience with a Harley is the sound of that Baby 🤟
What's your highway range? like at 70-75 mph?
Kevin Barnard scammer? How is you you have a lighting, when everyone else was scammed out of their money?
@@olemissjim Troll much? Please go away.
@@OrlandoRick With any electric vehicle, range is entirely dependent on how you use battery power.
Kevin Barnard Agreed? So what’s the highway speed range?
Imagine the Hell's Angels on these things lol.
They'd probably rather die...
They would never ride this. Understandable.
Exactly it's no longer a Harley Davidson with an electric motor lol!
"able to get it UP into the 80's ..." LMFAO
HARLEY HAVE STUFFED IT UP BIG TIME!!! Shocking
Great review it was very on the nose
How does it compare to other electric motorcycles?
What gloves are those please?
The LiveWire rides beautifully with terrific sports poise and balance. I'd like to take it into the Snowy Mountains but I'd need to move house. If you live near your great roads then buy one. [AUD$50,000]
Plz try Ather electric its sound Good.
Thanks!
One of the prettier bikes out right now gas or EV
Keyless option is old tech lol. What are you talking about. My first Ebike had keyless fob.
Love, love, love that copper color! Harley design hit this one out of the park.
I wonder what it would take to overhaul a motor on one of those things, id'e want to see affordable batteries before I got one
How about an Alta instead?
Big Fat NO.....can't wake up the neighbors with that! 💣
Bellissima moto✌
Do you guys own the bike?
Is it true that it only has level 1 and dc quick charge. No level 2 charging
You can charge with Level 2 charger but it will only charge at the Level 1 rate. So charge at home at 110v or DC for 0 to 100% charge in one hour.
DC Fast Charging is slow too. Needs a whole hour to replenish the battery. Comparable battery capacity Energica does it in 30 minutes.
I know right they think theve struck gold
Hows it do in the rain? 22,000 now
