Hello all, I haven't been able to make videos lately due to the condition of my health, but I wanted to share out what I thought was going to be an exciting experience. With the delivery of my 2022 Tesla Model Y, it's been a rough ride. So far, the high pitched whine is the worst and Tesla has not been able to address this concern. I'm sharing out my experience and hope to give an update on what resolutions I'm able to find.

Thats true. Here in Germany, initially, Fremont-made Teslas were imported. Given German attention to details, the complaints were so many that eventually Tesla decided to import Chinese made cars instead. Way better quality than US-made.

I think it's well known in the industry that Tesla's quality standards aren't up to par with other auto manufacturers, but I find these problems absolutely appalling. Especially for a $65,000 vehicle! In no way is any of this acceptable.
Because I've never purchased a Tesla, is having to schedule these appointments to fix quality control issues a normal thing?

    • @CelestialObjects
      @CelestialObjects 2 роки тому +4

Typically when you purchase a new car from a dealership they have a thing called PDI or pre-delivery inspection, which is the process whereby a dealership technician inspects a vehicle for any flaws and basically gets it ready for the eventual owner. A technitian will take up to 5 hours inspecting the vehicle. With Tesla they do not have dealership so you are actually are doing the PDI yourself with Telsa willing to fix any issues you may find. (Just like manufacturer to delaer) This is how Tesla sells $85000 for $65000 by selling directly to the customer.

    • @GXMAN16

@@CelestialObjects LOL what? Tesla doesn't save money for the costumer, they sell their cars at current market price, model Y as the one in the video right now is $80k on the Tesla site. So they're selling an $80k car for $80k, they don't sell vehicles at invoice, they cut out the middle man and the difference between the invoice and the msrp goes to tesla not to customer savings. The reality of the matter is there is nothing inside the car that's worth $80k, as shown above you get the quality control of sub $30k car for that $80k. WITHOUT the issues you get at most an $40k car as far qaulity and luxury, at MOST. $65 or $80k for a medium sized vehicle is luxury territory, go and sit inside a an $80k BMW, Audi, Benz or Lexus and then sit inside the model Y and you'll see that disregarding issues how bare bones the Tesla is. In fact go and sit in comparable EVs from BMW and the South Koreans, and see how far they along in terms of luxury and quality build. Yes there not as fast and don't make fart noises, but paying $80k for a Corrola sized vehicle and having a Chevy cavalier interior is embarrassing.

My friend worked for Tesla at the factory in California. On his first actual day of work after spending the first few hours watching videos and getting things set up he was put on the "quality control" line. He was an employee with no experience what-so-ever and he was checking paint for blemishes on the assembly line. He told me he had never been so overwhelmed in his life. He was sweating profusely and he said he couldn't keep up with the line. He asked two people around him what he should be doing and they shot him dirty looks and said nothing. He was worried he was going to ruin someone's future car and being a decent human he quit. It took him years to even tell the story he felt so ashamed.

He had to check for bad paint and loose parts it’s literally so easy lol. But that’s why he quit and believe me someone else took that job 5 seconds later and went with it and probably is leading that quality line now. I picked up my Model Y in February. My car had dirty water stains all over the dash, the rear seat release didn't work, and one of the door trim was punctured. Of course uneven panel gaps were said to be within spec. There are probably half a dozen other minor things I left out, but overall I do really like the car. I just wish Tesla would properly inspect and clean the cars prior to delivery. I had to put my car in the shop twice to get these things corrected after the fact.

After everything you've been through and to be slapped in the face like this you're pretty calm. You're a better man than me. I bought a $12,999 2013 chevy Spark brand new and that car was immaculate. It's on its last legs now but it has over 283,000 miles. You should start sending emails to Elon Musk, Tesla big wigs and posting on their social accounts how grotesque and unacceptable this is. No one deserves this kind of treatment when their car is delivered to them. It only means one thing. They don't give a hoot if you buy their product or not. Other customers will take your place. I just took delivery last Wednesday. I wasn’t aware of all the quality control issues ahead of time. I wasn’t told about the 24 hr time limit either. I assumed I was getting a quality product and any issues would be covered under warranty. I still spent 20 min or so inspecting car but didn’t notice anything at first other than a dirty car that I had them clean right away. I had a 4.5 hour drive back home and noticed a terrible metal or glass scratching sound from passenger side rear every time it went over any bump in the road. Luckily I made an appointment for the next day that was less than 24 hours. While looking at the car with the service tech I started noticing multiple fit and finish issues including door misalignment, scratches and the same back seat detachment issue.
This is where I started getting pissed. The Tech said the scratch might not get covered since I might have done it driving it home but it might get fixed out of goodwill. I told him I didn’t need any goodwill just a good car. Later he proceeded to tell me he could only log in 2-3 repair issues and I would have to wait 48 hours to put in a new service request. The service manager told him to go ahead and put them all in since she could tell I was getting frustrated but she had a lot of passive aggressiveness and was trying to blame me for not catching everything before delivery. She would say stuff like “don’t worry we’ll make sure the car is perfect for you” but you knew she was trying to give attitude and make you feel like an overly needy customer.
I have no idea when I will get my new car back which I had for less than 24 hours. Last time I saw it they were ripping out all the paneling in the back to find the noise. They called me the next day to let me know they think it’s the dampener in the suspension.
I hope and would normally expect they will do something to make up for all the hassle and frustration for having to deal with all of this within 24 hours of owning my new car but I won’t hold my breath since I get the feeling Tesla doesn’t value their customers.
It’s clear to me Tesla does absolutely no quality control and is expecting customers to do it with an untrained eye and within an unreasonably short window. It’s a scam so they can make more money. To make it worse you can tell the Tesla service team is trained to unapologetically put blame on the consumer even though they know there’s a scam going on - push out a crap product, don’t say anything to the customer, hope they don’t notice anything within 24 hours and if they do blame them for not catching it sooner.
Great technology, great performance, great charging network, TERRIBLE quality control and TERRIBLE service.

That’s the problem with home delivery. The delivery guy makes it hard to really take a look at it. I’m not getting mine Friday. We all need to start rejecting these cars until they get it right. Panel gaps are unacceptable after paying 73k. Panel gaps don’t exist with Lexus and Audi. Just saying

Your point about home delivery is spot on. People keep asking me why I accepted delivery. The guy dropped it off and to get inside the car required signing for it. Looking at this video and I really expected a bunch of things wrong. Dirt from the car sitting and being transported and not being fully, spotless is a detailing issue. The people that cleaned it just missed spots. The glove box and that back seat are issues but I still don't see PANEL GAPS. They just aren't fastened correctly. Even the trim in the back. This is definitely click bait for people that want to have a problem with Tesla. I've had multiple expensive vehicles that have had similar minor issues. I'm not seeing anything much different here.

@@tone7560 maybe its just me but I've had alot of cars in my years, New and old and everyone has had something that you can say it shouldn't be that way. Thats just the nature of the beast. My last car was a Mercedes 45 GLE AMG very fun and fast car to drive. When I got it, the trim on the steering wheel was coming loose, the turn signal when turning to the right would stick and only turn off if I manually did it and the sensor to avoid a collision would sound from time to time. This scared me the first couple of times it happened because I thought I was close to something. And that car cost more than that model Y this guy just got. They are cars. None are perfect. The problems I stated in my first comment are legit but complaining about some dirt that can easily be taken care of in a car wash detailing shop just comes off as entitlement to me.

You can get an app that turns your smartphone into a sound meter. It doesn't matter if it's not exactly calibrated correctly as long as you keep the same app on the same phone you could measure the sound levels in two different cars and no for sure whether one is quieter than the other.

Buying a Tesla? Get a $1,000 or $500 discount by using my referral link: ts.la/dylan49913
I'm getting a lot of repeat questions/comments, so I'm making this pinned comment to address them. Thank you to everybody who has expressed concern for my health, I'm working on recovery but it's been a long and hard journey.
    1) Why didn't you refuse delivery? - The home delivery that Tesla auto-assigned to me makes it difficult to get a full inspection in. The delivery person left immediately after I was given access to the interior of the car. Most of the more serious issues with the car were on the interior/only noticeable when driving, and you can't drive your new car without accepting it. Also, most of the cosmetic issues I'm okay with having Tesla fix in the future, but it's the whine that really is the most frustrating thing that would have actually made me consider not accepting the car had I known it made the noise.
    2) Why trade in a 2021 for a 2022 Model Y? - I wrote the video for this, but I got too sick to film it. It boils down to two things, the finances and the features. Financially, my old Model Y appreciated in value a lot. I also put an order in for this new car before the last round of price increases. After everything, it cost less than $4K out of pocket to trade up to the new car. The new car is also worth about $10K more than my old one, so it was an instant $6K profit. Otherwise, I was interested in the newer features of the 2022 Model Ys like the dual pane windows, HEPA filter, new center console, and more.
    3) These aren't real issues, stop complaining! - My local service center has confirmed that things like the glovebox, dash, and rear mirror housing are damaged. They also recognized that it was very dirty, so they cleaned my car during the 3rd service appointment. They also acknowledged that all of these cosmetic issues should have been caught during quality checks. The only issue that I'm still having serious issues getting them to fix is the loud high pitched whine coming from the rear.

I saw Andy Slye's video before this. These are making me a little apprehensive because I have a new model Y apparently sitting in Colorado Springs that will be delivered to my house as soon as they can arrange a carrier. I live about 300 miles from the Colo.Springs Tesla center so I anticipate that it may arrive a little dirty, however 4 of the items you mentioned should have been noticed and corrected before delivery. I keep hearing that the delivery quality is much better than it used to be, but there are still examples like yours which are hard to comprehend. I suspect that they will fix glove box, the backing on the back seat and the separation at the pillar jct. The high pitched sound is a bigger issue that Andy talked about in his video. I think that would ruin my experience with the car. So many of the issues people are posting about seem so random. It's mind boggling. Good luck. Thanks for the video. That being said, their reluctance to do more trouble shooting to fix the high pitched noise is very frustrating. My car is in the shop right now, but the fixes to the dash and glovebox are scheduled for a later date due to them having to re-order those components. I had several issues and didn’t know where to start. I sold my previous vehicle and didn’t want to decline delivery. Your best place to start is your location where the vehicle was delivered, know your parts manager get his cell number. Know him and have a lot of patience. The end result after 6 months all of my issues were fixed but you need to have alot of patience and it will get fixed. The key to getting your issues resolved is know your service manager and parts manager. I agree with the scratches and misaligned interior pieces. Also a poor detailing of the car before you got it, is pretty sad. But even exotic cars usually need a full detailing in paint and interior. Take a LED light at night to the paint of your car, I bet you find buffer marks and hazy spots, even scratches. That is so common on any new car, even at 50K and higher. My friend bought a new Subaru, the paint looked great to me. After she spent 1K to have it detailed. It looked 2X better, an amazing difference. That car looked so shining and the reflections were killer. I hope you recover from your illnesses and feel better soon.

Ford who has been making cars for over a century certainly knows this and has been getting great reviews and customer satisfaction on the new Mustang Mach-E. The Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 both will soon outsell Tesla. They both have heads up displays which will make it much easier to keep one's eyes on the road. One of the reasons the Japanese car companies grew so much market share.
When it comes to quality getting something right all of the time is orders of magnitude harder than getting it right even 95% of the time. Negative things manifest themselves in a different part of the brain to remain in memory for a longer duration than positive stimulative. So this is genius in every way and one of the reasons that started the influx of why Tesla NEVER ise advertising and never will because they get it for free through psychologically manipulating it’s costumers and potential buyers. Really interesting

I STILL can't understand, after all these years, why Tesla just doesn't seem to have a proper quality control at the end of their assembly line. Ford, GM, Toyota, and every other major auto manufacturer have a small group of folks at the end of the assembly line that have clipboards and they check EVERY thing that's on it. If it doesn't pass, it doesn't leave the factory until it's fixed. Tesla makes fantastic vehicle, but it's this QC that's going to end up killing them. Especially now that many other options are hitting the market and they don't suffer from problems like this that shouldn't even be an issue. It would be one thing if it's here and there an issue, but this has been going on for years and seems they just don't care at this point. Love my Model 3 but I'm seriously looking at the Ford Lightning or Genesis GV60 next time around .

I'm sure going to spend a lot of time going over it before I will accept it. And I'm concerned about the whine. My hearing isn't that great; I'm going to need my wife in the car to listen. That said, I've only been in a M3 once and didn't hear anything, so I don't really have anything to compare it to.

I am 3 days from taking delivery of my 2022 Performance Model Y but after seeing the poor build quality on videos and in a friends 1 month old Model Y I decided to cancel. I had waited 10 months. This weekend, I saw the BMW IX and the Vinfast VF8 and the build quality, the seat stitching, the little details that make a $70K car feel luxurious and I felt for the money I shouldn't settle for a fast minimalist car. There are some nice EV cars coming up and Tesla needs to improve their materials and quality control.

They do not care about us because if we say no thank you, they just go down the list. I had been waiting for four months when my friends son walked in and bought the exact same car with the exception of the black wheels. I threw a complete fit. She said it was different configuration I said you made the car just slap the black wheels on it and give it to the customer that’s been waiting for months. All the sudden (Xmas morning)my car appeared two months earlier than they said, and they were rushing me to come in before year end. I went in on the 28th and it was like Costco on a holiday! Insane amount of people running around. The kid and yes he was literally a kid who showed me where my car was way the heck back on a lot in the rain told me not to worry about anything that was wrong with it to noate it within the first 30 days and it would all be taken care of. I was with three people and this kid said this at least three times we all heard it. Well guess what when I went to complain about stuff they told me too bad so sad because I didn’t report it in the first hundred miles. I kept saying that is because I was told the first 30 days and they were insisting they’ve never told anyone that and did not care. I literally have razor blade gouges in my windshield and they refused to even repair it.

With the home delivery, it's really difficult to get a proper inspection before the delivery person leaves. In my case, I wasn't allowed inside the car until I signed all the paperwork, so I accepted it based on the exterior condition which wasn't bad.
