Martyballin the defeat animations were worth it though

Now you can download this in less than a second, like a fraction of a second.

Rebel Troopers didn't appear until the Prequel Trilogy. And Luke is the most important member of the Rebellion as its leader, so Luke should still be King. Ditto with Palpatine, who is the most important member of the Galactic Empire as its leader, therefore making him King. Queens are only for right-hand men.
So in Metal Slug terms, Morden is the King to Allen's Queen in a game of chess.

Hansen Sebastian Luke is not the leader of the rebellion, Leia would actually be closer to that but canonically Mon Mothma is the leader of the rebellion.

Old PC games like this were super reliant on the exact speed and type of CPU you had. This is also why the intro scrolled too fast in Jon's video.

There’s a certain bug with the game, where the game runs by checking the processing power of the computer. In a time-appropriate computer, such as the 90's or an emulator set to run similarly to a 90's computer, the game will run as shown in this video, whereas with more modern computers with super fast processors and trying to play the game as-is, it'll lead to ultra-high framerates as shown in JonTron’s video.

Well, you see, if the AT-ST would have Taken the yoda, then Chewbacca would had given a fork on c6, and with a knight up, White would had won. So its a neat simplifying trick
The whole game is absolutely abysmal if you're actually analysing it.
Chewbaccas should be bishops. C-3POs should be knights. I mean, they are in shining armour!

There's a PC CD-ROM version too besides floppy and it works very fast, no slowness in DOSBox or Windows 9x VM in Virtual PC. On the CD, there are kickass musics when both the black and white sides win, which are not actually played during the game.

Actually I think Leia should be the King as she is more of a commander while Luke being the Jedi in training is more of a champion

Battle Chess. Both a classic and Chinese Chess version exist. Great animations for the time, especially the towers transforming into Golems to move.

The WIN version must be quite a bit different from the DOS version, as I recall the voices in a lot of the captures not being the same as these.
Also it seems the entire game one opponent was taking unnecessary risks hoping the other would be even dumber. Looks like it paid off for white.
I remember this came on something like 40 3.5inch floppy disks
It's a big oversight to not have Han Solo as one of the Rebel pieces.
Here's how I would have have done the pieces:
Rebel Pawn: Rebel Troopers (from the opening of Episode 4, with the helmets and blue clothes)
Rebel Knight: Han Solo
Rebel Bishop: Obi-Wan Kenobi
Rebel Rook: Chewbacca
Rebel Queen: Luke Skywalker
Rebel King: Leia
Imperial Pawn: Stormtroopers
Imperial Knight: Emperor Palpatine's Personal Guards (the ones we see in full red briefly in Return of the Jedi)
Imperial Bishop: Grand Moff Tarkin
Imperial Rook: Boba Fett
Imperial Queen: Darth Vader
Imperial King: Emperor Palpatine
C-3PO and R2-D2 getting pieces feels like a mistake to me. It's hilarious that you can see C-3PO beating mighty foes like Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, and Boba Fett, but there are several other characters that actually make sense as a piece like Han Solo, Lando, Obi-Wan Kenobi, or even Wicket the Ewok.
Dark Troopers didn't exist until 2 years after Star Wars Chess was released, but if doing the game now it would make perfect sense to have them be an Imperial chess piece.
Always two there are. no more, no less. a master and an Apprentice.

Not sure why Boba Fett is representing a bishop while the knight is a Tusken Raider? I would have had Fett as the knight and an Imperial Guard as the bishop.

No to demean Princess Leia but she's not as good as a fighter as Luke is. She's gone but at this time, she only has shown skill at blasters.
