  • In this video I talk about my first menstrual cycle after having an Open Myomectomy. I was really nervous on how my first period would be after fibroid surgery. Is the flow heavier or lighter? Is it super painful or is it painless? Did I have a shorter duration of my period or was it regular like before? I answer all of these questions in this video.

I'm three weeks post surgery, they removed a 5.8 lbs fibroid from me. There was nothing that told me what to expect after surgery. Today is the first day of my period and I'm in so much pain. I came across your video and I'm relieved to find that others went through the same thing. I'm hoping it will get better after today. Thanks for the video.

I had my open myomectomy two weeks ago my fibroids were really big 21 by 19 cm and it was fully degenerated since my pregnancy my son is one year old now. I went through degeneration from week 10 pregnancy. Because the fibroid was degenerated and chronically inflamed it was adherent to my intestine and omentum during surgery they had to cut some of the omentum and I had injury to my intestines which needed repair. I am a doctor and fibroids are not an easy thing to go through. I have seen patients that ended up with colostomy bags for life due to fibroids. So for all women who are going through fibroids don't please don't ignore it and take it lightly especially if it increasing in size or you are getting new ones. To all women stay strong and be blessed

It was interesting for me because my period was due the day after surgery and sure enough, it came right after. It was very light, and I didn’t experience much discomfort, surely because of the meds. I got my first real period post surgery this week and boy oh boy the cramps have been rough. Hi! I am one month post op myomectomy surgery and got my period two days ago. It seems to be heavier than before the surgery (but then again I never had heavy bleeding) but I am attributing this to my uterus still trying to heal. I'm 2 and half weeks post op and got my first period since the surgery yesterday - I have a high tolerance for pain but TRUST me the back pain and cramps feels like the someone maxed the pain dial! I too attributed the pain to the fact that my uterus is still healing and apparently, your uterus takes a month to a month and a half (4-6 weeks) to fully heal. According to my doctor, the first two periods after a myomectomy may be more painful and more heavy than before but the third onwards should be shorter and pain free.

I had my surgery the day before my period was due to start and I had some moderate bleeding the first 6 days post op. This is now 30 days post op and right on queue my period came.
I am struggling- have been very tempted to take one of the narcotics they prescribed because I only took 3 days worth right after my procedure then switched to alternating ibuprofen and Tylenol but I’ve been baring the pain because I hate how narcotics make me feel. Dear change your diet , food is very important to avoid them to come back , try to avoid processed food carbs white flours sugar red meat and alcohol. If they are still small you can fight it with green juices but mostly veggies like kale cucumber spinach berries , avoid fruits that are higher in carbs and sugar . Eat more veggies . God bless
