Very nice overhaul Mike. That is a beauty. I love radios of this style. Well built units with a lot of attention to detail.

Definitely a "you get what you pay for" radio. They really did do a nice job designing these.

What a beauty and with all the accessories that you can add to it makes for a top shelf set-up.

Might have been worth making a copy of that Eprom

lol and you are right about the power supply. Changed mine to a MRF455 final transistor and the power supply went poof... worked well for a little while though lol

A great series of videos as always, maybe consider using a tripod to free yourself a little and steady out the video. keep up the great work. Karl

Best CB radio ever made in my opinion. I had the entire setup except for the CPI desk microphone. I used a Shure 444D on mine and it sounded great.

I recently purchased a CP-2000. It's is pretty nice condition, but it has a couple of issues. It's been modified for expanded frequencies, which work, but it only transmits and receives in the USB mode. I'll be putting it on the bench to see what's gone haywire with it in the near future. Enjoyed watching the restoration series.

Are you interested in selling it? I have been looking for one for some time.

I think I only had one other radio that could even compare. I had a cobra two thousand.

You can buy self adhesive ram heat sinks for DDR Ram that are solid copper.

I have used them before but are a lot more expensive then cutting my own out of large heatsinks. I can get a 8"x12" aluminum heatsink for the same price as a dozen of the premade ones. 5 minutes on a bandsaw and I have over a hundred.

CPI used a labor force primarily of disabled workers and they did bang up jobs

Didn't know that and good for them for doing it. I always appreciate when companies hire disabled people and veterans.

Where can I find an Ac power cord for this? Even if I had a name for this unique plug would help.

Mike. Why did they use a final with close to 10x the legal rated output? They (CPI) obviously knew the PS couldn't handle the output the final is capible of, even if an owner turned it up. It (the final) seems like Overkill. Never seen one (CPI) in person nor have I ever heard one, but they look incredible! Quality is an understatement. Makes me think what a Stoner pro 40 would've been had it had AM.

TUBES GLOW over engineered for long life. If you overrate the PA and run at 1/4th you get very clean output, very cool long life operation. That radio must have cost a ton of money it was built to industrial/commercial full duty cycle.

My radio was turned down by the previous owner. Before I open it up could you point to where the L204, L202, L203, L205, and L201 pots are located?

Clays Radio Shop. He was the Cobra Warranty guy for 20 years before Cobra was recently bought out. He will 100% repair your 138. He’s in San Antonio and is a very good radio tech. One of the last true techs in the trade.
