Great video, Shane. The vibe I get from these Twinklie Squares is very reminiscent of 80s computers and an overall 80s motif. Being a product of the 80s, I love this. The funny thing is that other wall mounted programmable HK lights can look cleaner, but these Twinklie Squares with their black line creating a pixel like feeling create a vibe that is pretty cool.
Aren't they fantastic - mine arrived yesterday and I love them. They cost a bomb but both my mate and my neighbour think they look stunning. I now have an important decision - finding them a permenant home!
update after using them for a year in the office. I had it connected to my home automation but even my SignalRGB found it on my pc and it synced without it and I can extend my pc animations to the displays which is nice. Now I have a small light panel wall that can be controlled by either my pc, home kit, or phone, I would recommend if you do not want to program leds yourself. I just wish the price was so high and availability weren't so low.
Another good review Shane. Very cool product, as most of the Twinkly stuff is, but kinda pricey. Not sure those are going to make it onto my ‘wish list’.
What am I missing, the pricing is odd? The 5+1 pack is $250, or I can buy 1 panel/controller pack for $50 plus 2 x 3 panel add-on packs for $200 for a total $250. If I buy separates then I end up with one extra panel for the same price!
Yea that's a great point. That's the pricing I was told. Currently it seems that you can only purchase the 5+1 kit and the Extension kit including 3 extra panels (at least in the US). Wondering if/when the other options will become available of if they will modify that pricing.
There’s a similar oddity with flic in building up through smaller parts being cheaper than a larger kit. Maybe they want to get people into expanding beyond the starter kit by seeing it’s easy to build it out a few pieces at a time. Not that this worked on me with Flic… not at all. I just wanted to do that on my own 😮
@@chriscarydadadada2393 Flic is a SmartHome button system. Each button can be tied to three operations. They operate and feel quite premium, but their one weakness is the use of BlueTooth (they use BT5… but it’s still BlueTooth). I suspect they continue to rely on this outdated protocol as they are usable by many different systems.
These look pretty cool. However, since wall space is at a premium at my house, I doubt I'll be able to get them. I do NOT like the larger black line between the squares. If Twinkly had been able to eliminate that, then aesthetically these would have been a home run. I also don't like that you have to use their app to do the effects. I too would have loved to see them allow the addition of scenes that could then be triggered from the Home app. Because of these two issues and limited wall space, these will be a hard pass for me. If these two issues are resolved in the future, then I could easily see myself "finding" the wall space to put these up. Especially in my office.
Hi… i hace Teófilo questions… 1… we need mount the squares one by one in thewall?… or we can make only the holes for the first and the last one ?… 2.. ir i want tied up the squares… i can ?… because i know i can tied up the twinkly springs in the window..
I wish they supported IFTTT, I currently use LIFX lights for my blood sugars red for low purple for high, so I was thinking if blood sugars are low twinkly lights would show image of someone eating or just the word to eat, high would be needle Injection
ouch, that price, i am still paying for my Christmas tree made with twinkly lights. but they do make a great product, I don't doughs they look even better in person
Got one today and it was awesome, but the master panel had some pixels blinking, so I had to return and order another. I also didn't see a place to upload gifs
Just purchased a 5 + 1 set. Cannot add to Homekit. "Accessory Not Found" Twinkly app is supposed to provide ability to add to Homekit at the bottom of the settings screen, but Homekit is not showing up. Latest firmware installed. How did you add yours to Homekit? Did you use the Twinkly app or just the Home app? Update: factory defaulted Squares, added to Homekit first, then added to Twinkly app. That worked for me.
My experience with the squares has been very frustrating, They don't maintain a connection to either the twinkly app or apple HomeKit. It can be rectified temporarily by resetting them, but then after being connected for a short bit, they once again become completely non-functional. I'm disappointed because I like the idea in concept, but I cannot figure out why mine don't function properly. I have gone through the steps for reset several times, only to experience the same results each time. I bought 2 5+1 kits. So I have two panels, 18 by 24 LEDs. I'll probably return them both, but I'm bummed because they fit rather nicely. I can get them to run the "default" blue display, which is nice, but I can't have any other functionality with them.
It sounds like it could be an issue with your wifi or network configuration. Maybe some settings there can be adjusted if they are having issues keeping a connection to wifi.
Newbie question. This is going to determine my equipment placement in my new house…Does the hub/bridge send the signal or does the router that is connected to it send the signal to the device?
I saw you used the pumpkin effect, I just tried to use it and mine doesn't look anywhere near as good as yours. Just wondering what I might be doing wrong
Thank you so much for this video an review. Showing all the connections an wires. Keep doing what your doing bro👍...will this work on Android??? Don't own an I phone, thanx
i hope they keep the ipad with the original tile layout. its sooo much better. never updating my ipad. i love the twinkly lights i got the christmas tree ones
Thank you Scott. The background lights behind the desk are just a pair of cheap RGB spotlights I got on Amazon (connected to smart plugs for homekit control of course).
@@ShaneCreates Thanks for your response and sorry for repeating the question. Just realized you had answered me previously. Nice to know that you can create something that looks high quality without spending a lot.
You can physically combine each master panel with up to 15 extension panels. You can also use the Twinkly App to sync larger groups of Squares and create huge displays.
Good question. You can have a total of 16 linked together (1 Master Panel + 15 Extension Panels). The beauty of Twinkly, is that you can pair multiple lights together in the app that aren't physically linked together. So, in theory, you should be able to get a second controller and extensions for example, and pair them all together in the app to run the effects together as one.
Have 30 of these coming and plan on a big 5 X 6 display ( basically 2 15 panel set ups ). If I put them together can I sync/join them into 1 large display like their Christmas lights? And I saw another review that said there's a text feature? Is that strictly iOS, again like the Xmas lights? I ask cuz I'm on Android.
@@chriscarydadadada2393 LMAO. I've been waiting on these for almost 2 years so I decided just to go for it. I REALLY hope they aren't disappointing. And that's where I'll be posting videos of my squares when I get them. I just got into digital decorating this year so I'll be adding that to my lights as well.

Apple TVs and HomePods remain plugged in, so never any issues of no power or battery, like an iPad. Plus the new Apple TVs and HomePods have support as thread border routers which iPads won't.... so this makes sense as Apple is preparing for Matter.
You know what you should buy instead of the twinkly squares? A television. The resolution on these is so bad you cant even tell what the gifs are. Not to mention you just have a black square hanging on your wall when its not in use, unlike a nanoleaf that just blends in. I bought these last week and just returned them to exchange for my second nanoleaf set and have no more regrets, much cheaper and looks waaaaaay nicer.

Thanks Dr. Cole. I agree... very nostalgic feeling.
Looks cool, but to really enjoy it one would need far more than those 5+1, which would be heavy on the wallet.
It will be nice for way larger panels

These do not require a hub/bridge. The connect directly to your 2.4 GHz wifi network. So you have to be within wifi range for them to connect.
This is general question, unrelated to the product review. Sorry for the confusion.

How do you install 16 plates with the amount you can buy? And how do you install more then 16 as you see on there own designs/Commercials?
You would just need an additional controller if you use more than 16 panels.
what kind of wi-fi is support because nanoleaf is only supported by 2.4gz
Does the three square kit support the power source does anybody know??

yea, 150 i can stomach but 250 is a bit much for a 12" x 18" rectangle of lights
