Something I can tell, who easily approaching animal when they go to friend's house. That person didn't have a pet at home.
Good point. One of the bizarre thing that happened to me is trying to take care of a friend's cat. First day, go in, clean up litter, fill food and water bowls, and leave without acknowledging the cat. Next day, sit down to rest a bit and the cat just jumped up, stared at me, and then start smashing his face into me.
It is likely something to do with scent imprinting, as in claiming you as their own 'pack', if you already have a pet, you have their scent all over you even if you can't tell, thus other animals/pets are less likely to approach you as it would seem intrusive or confrontational.

Usually that sort of sudden encounter will turn into a spat. It's roughly akin to a gang intruding onto another gang's turf.
That could end up getting very violent so that's probably a bad idea. They're very territorial and aggressive to outsiders
