- Welcome to the fifth winter 2024/25 update from GWV!
This video will be looking at things like sea surface temperature anomalies, ENSO, solar activity, arctic sea ice extent, Siberian snow cover, the QBO, AO, NAO and more... We've got a lot of stratospheric data this week, too. With our analogues we're looking at more summer to winter data.

At least for if we get a white Christmas would be a perfect day for get together and a hot chocolate in pjs but if a big daddy this winter that is gonna cause big headaches for traffic and travels.

I’m confident enough to call a colder than average winter this year due to there being so many signals.
…..in particular the lower temperatures over the last 4-5 months compared to the last few years and the semi-persistent high-latitude blocking since last spring

Thank's Gav and the team for the Winter 2024/25 Forecast: Fifth Update. Definitely a stalling with the La Niña in the basin of the Central Pacific Ocean, I know I keep bringing this up in my previous comments but it's surprising how warm the SSTs are around the globe compared to the past decades. Anyway I found the video very interesting and informative.

Every year us winter lovers hope for a cold winter. Do we dare get our hopes for this year? Great vid Gav, love getting a cuppa and settling down on a Sunday to watch these updates. They get even better when the clocks go back and it’s nice cozy with darkness outside 🎉
Winter of 2005-2006 was a very cold winter in the Scandinavian/Nordic region. I suppose it would only have taken a slight adjustment of the high versus low pressure to make it cold in the UK too.

Usually if the uk is warm chances are the eastern us is warm but man 2013-2014 was very warm for u guys and a monster of a winter for us in the us just 5 months of uninterrupted well below freezing cold and lots of snow

@@richardtraut1431 Yes !😂Team Gav is complete again and ready for the winter 2024 . 2025 updates😄.Did you have a nice holiday Richard? When I got there it was raining a lot and the nights were quite cool, totally different from previous years!
@@montsepueyo The First 8 days were very nice not too hot 24-28c but mornings did feel cooler then the last 4 days were cloudy had a thunderstorm at 2 am and it rained enough to flood Salou and even coming home from Reus Airport it was raining too , yes probably the coolest iv known in the last 15 years

How is the swingometer calculated,is it going off long range forecasts?
It is calculated from everything shown on each updates until we reach the conclusion .
