have a question I did the same led conversation on my silverado but my leds they like to turn off by them selfs and I have to mess with brightness knob to be able to turn my entire dashboard back on do you know what might be causing this type of problems? The leds are polarity currently put in and aren’t cheap leds either but they keep doing this for some reason.....
The use of a multimeter can tell you the polarity of the bulb connections, so no guess work needed. As you said, LED's are polarity sensitive, so they need to be hooked up appropriately.
Just a tip: after taking the cluster apart you can plug just the board in and turn the key to illuminate the board. Use a multimeter to determine positive. On those particular leds the side with the resistor is the positive...i did this on my 07 sonata and its beautiful
I did this same repair and changed the incandescent bulbs for LEDs and I learned a trick with the LEDs to check polarity. Leave the legs long and just solder them onto the PCB to see which ones work and which do not. Then just shorten the legs to fit the board, re-soldering them in the correct position. That way you can be assured that they are OK before you finish the job. Save the original bulbs for other projects where GM says you can't buy the bulbs any more - and local parts houses say they never did exist anyway. BTW: I had ZERO problems with sync-ing the needles the first time.
When I did mine once I took it apart I plugged it back in to the truck and then took one LED bulb and touched it on each contact to find the positive, then I put a little black dot on the board next to the positive solder contact, then I did it to all of them, that way I would know where all the positive solder contacts were on the board and my LEDs had one wire longer than the other which was the positive
Thanks a lot for nice work.. It's really a good teaching video. One suggestion, You may considering to put an ESD hand-band for protection of electronic components.
I have done about 4 of these trucks...complete LED swap...in the door switches i run my own wires and drill through the circuit board...the steering wheel switches the headlight 4x4 and fog light wtich hvac control as well as air bag disable all can have LED put in them with min effort...
Hands DOWN best video on this topic. But does anyone know part numbers for the bulbs? I have an 04 Escalade and dealer tells me "no serviceable parts" lol, therefore no part # thanks in advance if you can answer. Stay safe out there.
i have a 2007 cadillac dts in amazing condition, everything works perfect on it but the fuel meter gauge is little swanky. feels like it gets stuck, one time i filled it full and i noticed even driving for a while it still showed full on the gauge and i went thew 12 litters of fuel, any suggestions on what it could be? thanks
I followed your video and replaced the stepper motors for the fuel gauge and voltage gauge! The voltage gauge went bad last year and I replaced the motor then, but it didn't work so I left it but last week the fuel gauge went so I just replaced both motors but the volt gauge did the same thing! I turns almost all the way around well passed the 19 volt mark! I calibrated per your instruction! Any idea what is wrong? Regards, Tom Denig
If you have any buddys with the same style dash, ask if you can pop it in your truck. They go in easy enough. That way you can make sure it is in the cluster and not a wiring or ECU problem
once u pull if the guages all motors will eventually go bad simetimes the whole motor will detatch its self with the pin left in the needle when u go to remove the needle.
hey man, led's are diodes.. 1 way street for the electrons, you can see wich way they flow with a multimeter, as the circuit will be only closed, when the plus is plus.
THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO. I NOTICED YOUR Ac CONTROLS, HAVE YOU HAD ANY ISSUES WITH YOUR TEMP CONTROL. IF I AM AT 90 DEGREES I HAVE HEAT, MOVE SETTING TO 89 AND IT WILL BE COLD. WHERE DO I START TO DIAGNOSE. THANK YOU.
The reason I'm asking. I'm buying a truck and the dealer said, they are getting a rebuilt cluster shipped in, and then mailing mine back as a core. So if someone gets a new or rebuilt cluster, how does someone set the mileage? thanks for your quick responses
Question: my cluster panel lights gone dark suddenly , everything else works. driving at night I cant see the speed etc...the LED couldn't go all bad at once right? any idea? thanks
yes it can something as simple as the bulb nit sitting in its pods correctly. and possibly shorted it out. this guy in the video was working with a circuit board with out being grounded. should gave left it in its housing that u took off backwards.
do NOT touch the gauge face at all with your fingers as trying to clean greasy fingerprints off will scratch the gauge face. Use solder wick as well, Power up on your bench and re calibrate gauges to zero and fuel to below empty by about 1/8"
If I want to replace the lights behind my light dimmer/selector, and in my climate control unit, can I just buy more of the same LED's will they work just like the gauge cluster?
What size are those blue ones and what size are the red ones. I have to replace stepper motors so I'll need a solder gun anyways and I'm planning on fixing some burnt out leds which I'm guessing are smaller. Any help is appreciated
QUESTION: I replaced all my bulbs with led bulbs that i had to solder to my cluster and when I reconnected it only one signal light is working... none of my other lights are showing nor are the needles moving .... ALL of my gauges worked and my cluster was lite prior to my modification
I just installed some of those leds in my truck but only half of them work. I tried flipping them around like you said but no luck. is there any other reason you can think of as to why only some come on?
Charlie Rosene sorry never even saw this comment! I ordered my LEDs from gm gauge repair on ebay, wouldn’t go with any other LEDs or you’re gonna end up having to do it again. Sorry for the late response!!!, hope this still helps!
I will live my 30 years of electronic, I'm an in util with my JBC for more than 10k , my Fluke 190=202, my 30 years of electronics. This is the new way...
I ordered the same package with the same led's. I have a question, on some other vids I noticed that they soldered on resistors. Do these led's that you used need resistors?
They are working great. You might be thinking of using LED's for turn signal lights. A lot of Flasher units rely on the resistance of the bulbs to trip the flasher. Since LED's don't have the same resistance, your flashers will stop working. I know that on some cars, if you replace the brake lights with LED's without using resistors, the brake light won't go off (Subaru's for sure). If anything, the LED flasher indicators would be the only ones I can think of.
Saahaj Mattey pretty sure it’s factory like that, looks that way in the video cuz he doesn’t have the final cover over it yet and that covers those rings of light
Hi I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze the dash lights are that cyan blue green color. I'm wanting to change them for red. Is it possible to do it and did anyone have a link to get red lights? Thanks
I changed out all the dash LEDs on my 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD LT 6.6l Diesel and now I have a check engine light on. I have code P0650 (malfunction indicator lamp control circuit) Any ideas on how to correct. After I stalling all the LEDs 3 of them were install correctly as far and positive/neg but would not illuminate. I flip those three bulbs around and they worked perfectly. Any ideas??
Please help, before to replace my rpm stepper motor (it wasn’t working) my indicator lights haven been working neither, only check engine and battery light works, after I replace the stepper motor my rpm still doesn’t work and the indicator lights neither, I am pretty sure the stepper motors is fine, what else could be? Circuit board? All fuses working fine
Check out our 48 fleetmaster build series. I think I went over the gauges there and it should be similar. Unfortunately it is very specific to a very small amount of people so it isn't a high priority video
Hey man I noticed it said reduced engine power? My 03 gmc does that all the time and I have to pull over and disconnect the battery to reset it any ideas on what causes it?
Well, its the diesel I put it mine My throttle isn't communicating with my pedal. You would have the same thing but its supposed to be working! I would check the wires going into your throttle. A bad connection would throw the code
That was kind of the start of lead-free solder and the ROHS directive. I wouldn't be surprised if it's lead-free solder in a "semi-proven" process that causes troubles with these circuit boards.

+DEBOSS GARAGE it's pretty bright outside, I'll have to look things over, I made sure my fogs are off and switch the auto lights off, even check the lighting options on the dash as in perimeter lighting etc.... Are off.

I'd this last night .led all work my speedometer is fixed but tachometer now doesn't. that I pushed on needles on set them to zero. but a couple of them dropped down after I got outer cover back on

one of the best videos out there, finally a guy that explains it in such a simple detailed way and surely great video quality.
The best? God i would hate to see the worst
Who saw the bug on the left 2:50😂👌

Thanks for the video! I wish my wife was as understanding about using her kitchen stuff in the garage

I took a picture of dash gauges when key is on for ACCESORIES ONLY. It does help for gauges that read battery and gas. The rest can be put at 0.
I did this same repair and changed the incandescent bulbs for LEDs and I learned a trick with the LEDs to check polarity.

Thank you sir. Best video I have found on UA-cam to explain how to do this.

You make that look really easy....lol. I don't think I will be trying this.
Thanks a lot for nice work.. It's really a good teaching video.

What kindda tool did u use to cut around. The numbers ....when the leds turn on it looks real nice
So you just visually adjust the needles. Might as well just give yourself a full tank.
shane butler lol
Lol i was thinking that too
Nothing like running out of gas on a full tank haha
whoever sold me my car pretty much did that and that left me stranded 🤣
Rich great info. 05 Tahoe drive indicator on dash doesn't light up
What would be the fix . Thanks

I got a 2003 silverado z71 and the personal and business trip don't move fro zero,
Everything else works fine,
Can you point me to te right direction?
installed stepper motors in a 2004 gmc, all worked but the rpm gauge, just flutters, what could be the problem? Bought one more, does the same thing.
I followed your video and replaced the stepper motors for the fuel gauge and voltage gauge! That throttle is trying to go out

yes it can something as simple as the bulb nit sitting in its pods correctly. and possibly shorted it out. this guy in the video was working with a circuit board with out being grounded. should gave left it in its housing that u took off backwards.
And yes one bulb can cause it all to go bad. The board works like the old chritmas lights. If one goes out they all lose power

Yes, we will make a video on how to replace the rest of the lights including window controls and everything else. Trying to find some time!
what if they glued the damn LEDs in the casing what do I do now
Do i need t5 or t10 sockets for the bulbs ?
Hello there. does the dim working with leds?
What size are those blue ones and what size are the red ones. I have to replace stepper motors so I'll need a solder gun anyways and I'm planning on fixing some burnt out leds which I'm guessing are smaller. Any help is appreciated
Was the black cluster face a stock unit, with semicircles cut out above the gauges for that amazing light effect?
Thats stock with only the bulbs changed
QUESTION: I replaced all my bulbs with led bulbs that i had to solder to my cluster and when I reconnected it only one signal light is working... none of my other lights are showing nor are the needles moving ....
ALL of my gauges worked and my cluster was lite prior to my modification
I had to go down the road at 30mph with my phone gps and stick on the needle as i was driving for the speedo. Setting it to 0 made it like 15 off.
right on brother.....great video and thanks for the information
I just installed some of those leds in my truck but only half of them work. I tried flipping them around like you said but no luck. is there any other reason you can think of as to why only some come on?
Brad Gardin what leds did u use?
2:52 a spider crawled right past his arm on table lol
Thanks, video helped. Did the rest of my controls too (Hvac, lamp control, 4wd, etc) your channles great!
did you have to get a resistor to run the LEDs? also where did you find LEDs for HVAC controller?
U can get the LED bulbs with resistors made into them part# B4304H96 -5mm blue led. With these u don't need a resistor
Charlie Rosene sorry never even saw this comment! I ordered my LEDs from gm gauge repair on ebay, wouldn’t go with any other LEDs or you’re gonna end up having to do it again. Sorry for the late response!!!, hope this still helps!
The ones I'm talking bout u can get at Fry's
thank you! welcom from Russia!
Скрипка Денис Fuck Russia
Yeah !! 😠
I just change it is only three lights working what do you think was the problem
remove ur lights and try to reapply lights it might be touching the ground part of tge circuit board.
where did you get those gauges @deboss

what company did you get the led lights from? Thanks
I got mine from Amazon. They are very nice at night.
You can go to oreillys and get cob singles ordered or any led specialty store
I have an 01gmc sierra all the dash lights quit working at once heat controls cluster and headlamp switch any ideas what the problem could be?
what stepper motors are available for an 2001 Chevy Tahoe? I only see ones for 03_07 or at least they show incompatible.
I ordered the same package with the same led's. I have a question, on some other vids I noticed that they soldered on resistors. Do these led's that you used need resistors?
+Javier Pinedo I don't think so. I soldered them on and they work fine.

How did u cut the gauge cluster to give off that ring of light? around the instruments?
Saahaj Mattey pretty sure it’s factory like that, looks that way in the video cuz he doesn’t have the final cover over it yet and that covers those rings of light
Does it still work with the dimmer? Id imagine they are too bright at night
Where did you get the leds for the Headlight Switch? Did you add the extra leds for the other side of the switch and what kind?
same bulbs as the dash, just soldered them in. I ordered more bulbs for the other lights but havn't had the time to put them in yet
Hi I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze the dash lights are that cyan blue green color. I'm wanting to change them for red. Is it possible to do it and did anyone have a link to get red lights? Thanks
which stepper motors do I use for a 1998 silverado? everything I'm seeing is for 2000 and newer?

This might be a stupid question. But does the speedometer stay the same if we swap out an entirely new cluster?? Thx
speedometer does but the odometer reading follows the cluster
make sure its calibrated first should be plug and play. part numbers need to match. info on back of cluster usually.
does anyone know if these will fit a 2000 Chevy silverado?? everywhere i have looked says 03-06 dont want to go through the work if they wont fit
Do they sell whole housings that come with different colored L.E.D's?
What size of led bulbs are used T5 or T10 ? Plz tell
How about a video on how to rebuild the original gauges in a 52 Pontiac Chieftain? Is that possible?

@@DEBOSSGARAGE thanks
Mine is that color and it's nice can see very well
What leds did you use?
where did you get the 3 guage pod set from? and the LEDs for the spedometer .. I have a impala ss 04 I was t to do the same exact setup as you bro!
Everything is listed here: kit.com/debossgarage/parts-materials

The corner has a small chip for negative
And if I remember positive is the side with the resistor
is that the factory gauge face overlay? or did you change it
factory
That was kind of the start of lead-free solder and the ROHS directive. I wouldn't be surprised if it's lead-free solder in a "semi-proven" process that causes troubles with these circuit boards.
Very good! Thanks
The longer leg is positive and shorter is negative for LEDs.
Are the led supposed to stay on all the time when u start up the truck?

is there anyway I can get the led to change color?
Hi I was wondering what type of LEDs you used
is there anyway I can get them type of LED lights for a 1990 Chevy Camaro RS
Good video.
Where do you order them LED light?
no, it's not trial and error you have to use a meter to find + or - or you could be chasing it all-day
How do you get ride of the Reduced Power crap? That's my main issue.
have a question I did the same led conversation on my silverado but my leds they like to turn off by them selfs and I have to mess with brightness knob to be able to turn my entire dashboard back on do you know what might be causing this type of problems?

Where can we find stepper motors for the 95-98 trks?
Can you replace the bulbs in the PRNDL??
no
Will u please let me know if this would work and if u sale these kits for 2003 Chevy Suburban 4x4
I changed all my steppers the speed one still doesn't work any idea why that would be
I didn't see a check engine light when you turned on the ignition? especially with the reduce power readout
It has a 4bt diesel in it. Lots of mods done, but the engine light is on
is there a way to replace the display where it shows info
can thenew led lights be dimmed by the dimmer control??
yes
I'd this last night .led all work my speedometer is fixed but tachometer now doesn't. that I pushed on needles on set them to zero. but a couple of them dropped down after I got outer cover back on

what type leds do you use?
do you have a video on a 07 impala doing the same lights
06-13
thanks so much for the help
will this work on 1997 C1500 ? Ready to fix mine but not sure what motors to get.
ever find an answer?
Hey Boss!
On my 2004 GMC Yukon the lights in P R N D 1 2 is to low… what I can due?
Bad resistors
would this work on a 2006 chevy malibu
If you ever have the gauges go funky, you can turn the vehicle off, put it in reverse and act try to turn the car over, rinse and repeat it will step down till all gauges are where they are supposed to be :)
+derek pierson Thanks! Thats great to know!
witch ones do i use for a 2000 s10 chevy
