Thank you for spending time in acknowledging John Fisher's Loss. When I think of this and my feelings when it happened. John Fisher but then David Witt and the rest of the Scallywag crew. Of course 11th hour too. But John Fisher ~~~ never Forget ~~~ ♥

You'd think that all people on deck would be wearing a positional location device in case of an overboard situation

Like a lot, it's only Rock'n'Roll, but like the great Stones, technology helps a lot to their concerts but still the same simply guys, with a great sound, having fun.. The 1973/74 Whitbread, that was the really outstanding radical sailing... That race was the real adventure... No tech, bad clothes, the boats, for the first time, some of them, like 33-Export, a phone call before... "Wanna go?" "OK" !.. Put the boots and some shirts in a bag and be in Portsmouth... Read the Jean Michel Barrault 1974 book ...I read it lot of times, the first in 1977, was a teenager ... That was Hell..!!!!! Still read it sometimes

guys this isn't looking good. hit a coral reef one year, another man missing overboard. hit a fishing vessel causing a death... is this the price of competition?

K Reed it's an extreme race and with that comes extreme dangers, so yes this is the price that can be paid. I know it's an old saying but the man passed doing what he loved, there's some comfort in that fact

How many miles are the formula 1 cars doing?
How many people die per year?
Being passionate about your sport and testing your boundries while using the best safety equipment in the world is not foolish.
Mistakes are made across 315.000 miles in extreme conditions and the sailors know about the danger. They know that they might never arrive back on land but accept it, live with it and still go out.
That was always the case in ocean sailing and it will never become a completely safe sport.

The sea is a cruel mistress I was a deep sea trawlerman for 25 years and lost 5 crew mates over the years

these guys are racing to clean the ocean yet they dump all sorts of carbon fiber bits and rigging whenever they break.

Gabriel S. When they hit the reef in the last race, they took all fuel and other possible contaminants off the boat and then removed the boat from the reef. Also only one boat has the reference to cleaning the ocean. I'd be more concerned about the garbage all people living on land pump into the oceans, rather than worrying about yachts
