Village Park has our favorite fried chicken of all-time anywhere in the world! Our blood was probably 40% Village Park nasi lemak ayam goreng during MCO 😂😂
I don't know where the place is located. I lived in Ampang (8 km from KLCC),,,,But almost 8 years I haven't go to KL downtown except Low Yat Plaza in Bukit Bintang looking for computer stuff etc.....
FYI SAMBAL BELACAN n SAMBAL NASI LEMAK is two different things 1. For SAMBAL NASI LEMAK dried chillies+onions+belacan +etc hv to cook well 2. SAMBAL BELACAN Cili Padi +belacan+sugar +salt +lime juice n.just eat fresh with out cook
Eating nasi lemak without sambal is like eating pasta without it's sauce. 🤣🤣🤣 Also, belacan don't use anchovy. It's a shrimp paste. And those fried chickens, Ken would love them.
Its not sambal belacan steve. Its sambal tumis. And not all sambal tumis has belacan in it. Depends on the cook. Also belacan is not made from anchovies. Its from very small tiny shrimp. Sambal belacan is red chillies pounded with belacan with a bit of salt and sugar. Sometimes onions is added. Sometime slices of mango is added. Depends on the cook 😃😃😃. Ok hope steve will say the correct name of the sambal after this ya.
Sambal Tumis guys. Nasi lemak sambal is Sambal Tumis. Btw femented anchovies is budu (buduk), a special dip sauce from Kelantan, Terengganu & Southern Thailand. I had something similar in Laos. Fermented shrimp paste is Belacan. There’s one more special dip… the Cincalok, made from Udang Geragau (dried krill).
Steve - correction, belacan is made of tiny shrimp (krill like). Its actually shrimp paste. Most sambals or Malay cooking tend to have a bit of belacan.
Steve, the sambal in nasi lemak is different from the sambal belacan that you eat raw with cucumber as salad. It is called sambal tumis and not sambal belacan. And yes Ivana, you are right about the lemongrass as one major ingredients in the ayam goreng rempah. Lots of shallots and lemongrass.
Oh gosh, genuine nasi lemak vs fake nasi lemak icecream ..very interesting, amazing and a good experience. I guess many Malaysians haven't come across nasi lemak ice cream...l'm one of them 😂🤣😂🤣 A big shout-out to Creme de la Creme...will definately try it when l visit my daughter in KL. A big thanks to Steve lvana for sharing and showing me/us this interesting "dessert"...😍
ada lagi nasi lemak heaven... u go to jalan tandang PJ... infront of GDEX company.. near parit besar... as early as 7.30 am dan biasa 9.30 dah habis... situ mmg selalu hari2 beratur wooo huhu.... the nasi lemak will be served tepi jln bawah payung... just for tapau... try it, u will crave for it forever... hahahaha
Ya'll 2 are so cute man lol. As a Malaysian watching from the US, i am so jealous coz we dont have anythign like that here! Nasi lemak ice cream!!!! Wut!!!!
If you’re talking about nasi lemak biasa meaning without any accompaniments, it’s the sambal that differentiates one from another. Without sambal, it’s not the same. What I would recommend is to keep eating the sambal even though you may not enjoy it. Our brains can learn to tolerate and even enjoy flavours after much repetition. Think of any food you disliked as a child but then love as an adult. No BS, it’s all in your head just remember that. Keep at it
as a Malaysian who has same tongue as Steve, I understand really well how anchovies taste for us..I'm the only one in my family who can detect anchovies in sambal even though other people say they couldn't taste the anchovies..i usually eat nasi lemak with kuah masak kicap (ayam/daging)
'Belacan' is make from tiny shrimps!...dried under hot sun..for numerous days.Huiya!, you guys can make orders using bm...Great jobs..keep on speaking!..in no time u sounds like locals.much love.
For me the best nasi lemak would be the santan (coconut milk) must be from an old, almost dried coconut as the taste is much more concentrated. Also I prefer the sambal to be sambal bawang (onion samball) which my aunt, my late grandmother and late mother used to make it. Hardly I can find it in KL or Selangor except only certain shops in Negeri Sembilan...So far, the tastiest sambal bawang I have ever had is, in one of the shop in Lenggeng Negeri Sembilan and 2 shops in my hometown Rembau Negeri Sembilan...Just simple plain nasi lemak made from santan of dried coconut, sambal bawang, peanuts, anchovies, cucumber and egg
Belacan is shrimp based not anchovies, but they are those tiny shrimps the size of finger nails. In semenanjung those tiny pink/red shrimps are called udang geragau, in sarawak I believe they're called bubok. However, traditional nasi lemak sambal does not use belacan. Sambal belacan is for ulam (traditional malay salad) and grilled fish. Some sambal nasi lemak use anchovies, like you can actually see whole anchovies in it.
Jetlag and wife : If you want to taste tasty nasi lemak, come down Penang and I will serve you home made Nasi Lemak for free...I live on the mainland of Penang, Seberang Perai. We cook nasi lemak the traditional way!
I’m with Steve on belacan. I’m a Malay Malaysian but I don’t fancy belacan either :/ Also, I used to tell ppl this too so it’s understandable how everyone says nasi lemak = fatty rice, but I believe that it is actually creamy rice. Because in Malay lemak can means fatty or creamy. Since nasi lemak uses santan, the lemak is referring to the creaminess of the santan 😬 If you hear ppl referring to a soup/kuah as berlemak it usually signifies the kuah to be creamy (usually due to santan, milk or cheese).
Belacan is shrimp paste.. anchovies is budu if not mistaken..Ivana ..that why it say spoonful 🤪🤪..we don't use fork 😬 as much as spoon as our dishes are always come with gravy aka kuah...with fork we can't get any kuah 😅
Belacan is not "fermented" small shrimps as many ppl hv claimed. Fermented shrimps are called "cincaluk". Belancan is made of small shrimps (krills) which are laid out under the sun for days to dry, until reaching 5% moisture. In between, they will be pounded into dough like texture. Salt is added to give the belacan its salty flavour. This process is repeated a few times until you get the texture that you want and very crucial to get good quality (smell & taste) belacan. Fermentation is another food process. It is an anaerobic process in which microorganisms like yeast and bacteria break down food components. This does not apply to belacan. I know because my mum used to make her own belacan.
To be honest the best nasi lemak i had was at my uni study in Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) sell by the alumni of the Uni...he go to door by door at the hostel...oh how much i miss it 10 years passed really fast 😭😭😭
I don't know.. That's a tough question. Just when you think A is good, B seems to be better and then C seems to be the best. Then when you go back to A.. somehow it can make you forget B & C. How can it not be? The whole country is into nasi lemak.
Belacan is made of shrimp, not anchovies. Nasi lemak using ordinary sambal not sambal belacan. The sambal usually plain or blend with anchovies, and some of us will go extra mile putting a bit belacan for extra flavor. Fun fact: water spinach is including in nasi lemak in most places in melaka😊
Nasi lemak ice cream looks so unique, fantastic ..so creative and of course at another level. Never imagine nasi lemak will be that futuristic..lol 😅 So lucky you guys gave it a try at least once in your life time.
Belacan is actually shrimp or krill paste. Fermentation is part of the process hence thr strong enhanced flavor. Sambal for nasi lemak may ot may not have this ingredient. Personally my family has prawn allergies, so we use anchovies instead of belacan to get that umami flavor.
Oh good god. That's just down the road from where I live. I eat around there every day (though not at Village Park). From what I've been told, Village Park is owned by Chinese Muslims. On the other side of the block is a really good genuine Japanese ramen shop (Seirock-ya, which is halal) and a Thai Muslim Tom Yum restaurant (Vicchuda). I used to eat Nasi Lemak for breakfast (it was convenient to buy it by the side of the road when I had to teach 8am classes), but it's got a REALLY HIGH glycemic index and I found my blood sugar would shoot up right after breakfast. If I eat it at all it's later in the day. Nasi lemak pizza - hmmm.... I'll check Domino's menu (there's one at the bottom of the square).
For first timer, better try nasi lemak with chicken sambal, beef sambal or egg sambal. Once you familiar, then can try other seafood sambal which contain belacan.
Belacan is a shrimp paste. It's made from small, white shrimps (some are made from small red shrimps) and salt. And it's delicious especially when it's cooked in dishes. Hahaha
The sambal for Nasi Lemak is call Sambal Nasi Lemak. Sambal Belacan is the one you eat with plain rice and ulam [salad]. Sambal belancan will have more belacan portion to it but almost all type of sambal in Malaysia will have belacan in it 😅... Luckily rendang dont have belacan it it. Belancan = shrimp paste not ikan bilis.
I think the yellow nasi lemak can be found in KL under the name of nasi lemak Royale.. one restaurant is in ampang and another is in jalan gombak.. correct me please if i got it wrong... 😁
Steve have you tried nasi lemak wanjo in kampung baru? It has a milder sambal with a sweetish taste and I dont think it has any fishy/seafood taste (ie no depth lol)… still decent nasi lemak though
Fermented small shrimps (krills) is called cincaluk. Belacan is not fermented but dried krills, mix with salt & pounded into dough like texture. Fermentation is a completely different food process where bacterias or yeasts come in place.
You can always enjoy nasi lemak with some other gravy, like rendang or kari gravy. It's definitely better than just plain rice and fried chicken. Give it a go Steve!
If you have time, go to Wisma Genting (next to Wisma Cosway). There is a food stall adjacent to Wisma Genting. In the morning (only morning, no noon or night) there is a special type of nasi lemak where the seller put all types of gravy on it (about 4 to 5 types). The end result is a mixed of all tastes unified into 1 nasi lemak. A must try!!
I agree with Steve, I don’t favour Village Park’s sambal… they mixed blend anchovies in the sambal. However, I love the rest of their food especially the “chinese” dishes. Have not been there since the mco.
We will be visiting the villagers at a long house this Sunday. So we will try!! The connection here is not very good. And we still have some vlogs from our Ipoh trip coming out soon!😁
That nasi lemak sauce isn’t what we call sambal belacan. Sambal belacan is different. Also, you can easily find nasi lemak sambal that doesn’t come with belacan. FYI SAMBAL BELACAN n SAMBAL NASI LEMAK is two different things
1. For SAMBAL NASI LEMAK
dried chillies+onions+belacan +etc

2. SAMBAL BELACAN

Also, belacan don't use anchovy. It's a shrimp paste.

Congratulations Steve for using Malaysian "hand power" to stop the traffic 😁😁😁
The best nasi lemak in kl is located at warung wanjo, the line up sometime almost on the street just to get n taste it
Its not sambal belacan steve. Its sambal tumis. And not all sambal tumis has belacan in it. Depends on the cook. Also belacan is not made from anchovies. Its from very small tiny shrimp.

Belacan is Fermented Prawn paste.. my favourite in my every meal..

Nasi Lemak saleha even better than this village park. Village park is just over rated bcoz half of its share owned by a famous malay artist , Neelofa.
Question for Steve - ayam goreng from Village Park or Maliki Nasi Kukus?
For sure Nasi Kukus Ayam Berempah 😁🙌
Mmmmmmmm I would still say Maliki but Village park was amazing too!!!!
maliki is the best..but sadly its already totally closed at subang..dunno if they're move to new place or not running the bussiness anymore😢..
We Malaysia people believe in the power of hand..to cross the street😂😅🤣🤣🥰🥰😍
Ya'll 2 are so cute man lol. As a Malaysian watching from the US, i am so jealous coz we dont have anythign like that here! Nasi lemak ice cream!!!! Wut!!!!
Ordering extra ayam goreng on the side is a must here!
Sambal is the soul of nasi lemak, Steve how can you skip that
True. It's like pasta sauce. You can't have pasta without it's sauce. Same goes for nasi lemak.
If you’re talking about nasi lemak biasa meaning without any accompaniments, it’s the sambal that differentiates one from another. Without sambal, it’s not the same. Look forward to watching it later.
Good to see u guys explore good food outside city centre. There r lots of good food in d Klang Valley not just in KL. U found some of them. Lovely.
Oh another thing, nasi lemak translated is not fatty rice. Lemak here refers to the creamy taste from the coconut milk, so it's creamy rice instead
Food looks amazing!! Ice cream store is very creative!! Keep safe, healthy and happy.

No, belacan is not anchovies, nope.

last time i was there...i had nasi lemak daging rendang steve 😁
The original sambal for nasi lemak must contain a lil bit belacan as the ingredient to give a good taste.
Nope...u wrong..old school nasik lemak dont use any belacan..
@@mohdazuwan2498 exactly. old school sambal is very simple. no garlic & belacan.
