I think nasi goreng originated from normal households in which there is always some leftover of plain rice. In fact, it is a known fact among many Malaysians that the best nasi goreng is made using 'older' batch of plain rice (not the one that has just been cooked) so that it is drier, easier to fry and the texture turns out better. But I believe restaurants will cook using freshly cooked rice. So sometimes you may get nasi goreng that is a bit 'moist'. So nasi goreng is the best thing to cook when u have some leftover rice and some leftover chilli paste, or even gravy from any 'lauk' cooked earlier. Just throw in and fry everything. That is why I remember the nasi goreng my mom cooked tasted slightly different every single time (depending on the leftovers we had). But the base of any nasi goreng usually consists of these ingredients, in this order: oil, onion and garlic, any gravy/chilli/flavouring/meat, plain rice and egg (and salt n pepper). Other things added would make the nasi goreng the different names they have. Because it is easy to make, it is usually one of the first dishes Malaysians learn how to cook.
I need to explain something to you guys. actually nasi goreng USA stand for U= udang (prawns), S= sotong (squid/cuttlefish), A= ayam (chicken). there's actually not from United State 😅

ikan masin is salty fish in english. basically the fish became salty as part of the process to preserve the fish (cover the fish in salt and dried under the sun). due to lack of moisture, the salty taste is intense. for anchovy, it is often dried as well, but without the addition of salt (maybe just a little bit). in term of eating, you can eat ikan bilis as a whole, maybe 3-4 ikan bilis at a time. but for ikan masin, you need only small pieces of it. just to add a tad bit of saltiness to your spoonful of food. and the ikan masin was not meant to be eaten on its own i.e. need to add the ikan masin as part of the rice or pulut
I also place Nasi Goreng Kampung as No.1 favourite. I have tried Nasi Goreng Kampung in Sungai Petani Kedah. They even come with 2 stick of Satay. Elsewhere, the standard ingredient that comes together are Ikan Bilis (anchovy fish), Keropok and Kangkung vege.

Anchovy is ikan bilis or fry ikan bilis whereas the salted fish is basically salted and let it dry. Both needs to fry before eating whereas salted taste more salty. Ikan bilis are more crisper than salted fish.

Same! 💗
We usually eat nasi goreng pattaya with plain soup broth.
Nasi goreng USA.. was acctualy short form for nasi goreng Udang.., Sotong and Ayam.. but then they made it easier by serving daging masak merah and telor.
Can't wait to see nasi goreng Canada!
Coming soon!! Thanks for watching 😁

@@syahrulhakim8127 hahha lol or served with turkey? But thts just thanks givingie? 🤔😄

Yes....nasi goreng USA & nasi goreng kampung is my first top list . There is more nasi goreng style u should try .......nasi goreng seafood, cili padi, cendawan, ladna, thai and mamak style...
Looks so yummy 😋 i am so gratefull cause live in Malaysia and born in Malaysia 😁😂 thanks bro sis for your comment
yummy!!! We love Malaysia!
@@JetLagWarriors thanks a lot 😂😁👍
My favs are nasi goreng belacan and nasi goreng tomyam! I love nasi goreng USA too! Basically those with bold flavours!
Nice! We were both surprised by nasi goreng kampung! But in the end, all are good 😁
what make difference between nasi goreng kg is that normally the cook put belacan (shrimp paste) in it
I know. I'm surprised he still chose nasi goreng kampung.
Aaah that’s why it’s so flavorful
normally when I order nasi goreng pataya I'll ask cook to prepare as nasi goreng kg but wrapped with egg...so yummy!!
Anchovy is ikan bilis or fry ikan bilis whereas the salted fish is basically salted and let it dry. Both needs to fry before eating whereas salted taste more salty. Ikan bilis are more crisper than salted fish.
The one USA fried rice that ive tried usually include fried big prawn, beef, and fried egg.
udang, sotong, ayam = USA
Scoop the nasi goreng with keropok and put it in your mouth.. ivana is genius.. love that style.
Lol. Smart girl
Wow, what a day to have 6 types of nasi goreng !!!
Haha..Steve, it's amazing of you, ordering your nasi goreng in Malay...you are more than a local now 👍👍👏👏
Waiting eagerly for your Canadian fried rice, guys !!!
Lol! Canadian fried rice coming soon, we are already debating over what ingredients 😁
Don't forget to add Canadian back bacon Steve
Wonderful video on nasi goreng.
thank you😁
6 foodies at one go....I'm hungry already!
Finally, the video I was waiting for 2 months! Nice, guys!
Yeah we were also wondering if they were ever gonna eat nasi goreng usa! N they did finally! Awesome!
A friend of mine once told me that nasi goreng u.s.a actually stand for udang(prawn)+sotong(squid)+ayam(chicken)..but i never see the're together in nasi goreng u.s.a,dont know why
OH! This is new info. Thanks
You're welcome..thumbs up
That's because not many know the real meaning and yes it is Using Sotong Ayam. Once, my ma ordered it and got Daging merah instead
Udang* my bad
Yeah same here years of eating nasi goreng usa (and daging merah which is hard to find😅) still don't know why the name lol
Nasi goreng USA actually have two variations.. The original one is UdangSotongAyam.. PrawnSquidChicken.. It supposed to have the same gravy as the Nasi goreng Paprik... The one u have is like a nasi goreng and English breakfast combined. U got egg sunny Side up.. Beef and sausages.. And USA is the expensive ones and a local fav. Good job on the video
oooh thank you!!
3:20 its not Nasi Goreng Paprika but Paprik (Thai influenced Pad Prik dish) 😁
Nasi goreng ikan masin n nasi goreng kampung is our malaysian favorite the most,we love ikan bilis n ikan masin smell, well we use to it,btw i really like how both of you try all the nasi goreng.good job yall.
Thank you!!😁
Actually Ikan bilis depends on the grades they serve you. If you they serve you the low grades Ikan bilis that will be awful taste but the high grades ikan bilis is quite addictive.
Some places cook nasi goreng USA as UDANG, SOTONG, AYAM(SHRIMP, SQUID,CHICKEN) but a lot of of shop cooked it just like the video as well with beef and fried egg
Wow! Never heard of the udang, sotong, ayam one! Want to try now
i love all nasi goreng on your video. so delicious 😍😍😍
Same 🤩🥰
nasi goreng u.s.a used to mean Udang,Sotong,Ayam..but the ways each nasi goreng u.s.a was cook is different from stall to stall..some stall even put sausage in to..
Steve... You should visit a chinese restaurant if you want to experience the authentic taste of Chinese fried rice.... Its cooked in pork lard, casyu (bbq pork) or either lap cheong (chinese style sweet sausage).... Its actually very tasty.... For obvious reasons the taste totally differs compared to the ones u get in a mamak or malay restaurants....
oh we would love to!!! Stay tuned for a Malaysian Chinese dish feast vlog!!!😁 Any recommendation??
Yes you must try the Chinese fried rice by a Chinese or to a Chinese restaurant. It's totally different.
nasi goreng tomyam, nasi goreng kerabu. go to tomyam restaurant. the best place to try many type of nasi goreng
what is a tomyam restaurant? A Thai restaurant?
@@JetLagWarriors tomyam restaurant/stal = basically, the restaurant/stall owned by malaysian's malay, ... but the cooks are specially imported from Thailand (Thailand's malay) ... and their expertise = tomyum-related/tomyum-influenced dishes.
Nasi paprik have a special fragrance leaf call 'daun limau parut'.
Bukan limau parut but limau purut..it is kafir leaf.
Extremely fragrance and yummy pungent taste!
As for me :
1. Nasi goreng ikan masin/pedas
2. Nasi goreng USA
3. Nasi goreng kampung
4. Nasi goreng ayam padprik
5. Nasi goreng Pattaya
6. Nasi goreng Cina
nyum3.. 😋
Petition to get a video on Ivana speaking to Steve in Bahasa for 24 hours :D
I think Ivana can do it? ✌
Steve : Terima kasih.
Ivana : Sama-sama.
*Repeat for 24 hours. Done!
great idea!!
@@RunsingBagaiNakGila 😌😌😌
My ultimate nasi goreng to order.... Nasi goreng kampung + telur mata lembu (sunny side up)! 👍👍
Since u like meat steve... I suggest u to try nasi goreng daging black paper...is off the chart
Sounds very good! Will look into it. Black pepper daging is awesome
N.G Kampung with some basic soup, sambal belacan & some cucumber is the best.
"Padprik or paprik" is a Thai words where 'Pad' means stirfry and 'Prik' means chili. it is not the same as 'paprika'.
oooh ok. Make s sense now!
USA is for
U: udang (prawn)
S: sotong (squid)
A: ayam (chicken)
In some fancy restaurants, the nasi goreng USA will be more western like which serve with some fries and red vinegar meat
Haha... good to known it.
wow with fries?😂😂
Its really hard to find a really good Nasi Goreng Ikan Masin (salty fermented Mackerel) and Nasi Goreng Sardine.
Im impressed. Order in Bahasa Melayu. Having 6 types of nasi gorengs in a meal... Tahniah Steve and Ivana.
My favourite is Nasi Goreng Kampung
There are some Nasi goreng USA version that have sausage and patty burger with fried rice
USA stands for Udang Sotong Ayam (USA), if added sausage and patty it will be USAPS.. 😁
@@hadeqhad5474 usually Nasi Goreng + telur goreng+ sosej + daging Berger kat Kafe U
Nasi goreng party. Awesome. We eat nasi goreng around the clock, for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner , supper.
You are making me HUNGRY!!!
My favorite is nasi goreng daging merah, nasi goreng kerabu and nadi goreng tom yum
ah wished we tried the nasi goreng kerabu. Next time!!
@@JetLagWarriors please make part 2, so many nasi goreng to try 😋
Ikan bilis usually small as nails
Ikan masin bigger than 2 finger
Ikan bilis is crispy than ikan masin
Alot of fish can be made to ikan masin
Don't forget about pekasam too, they has sour and savoury flavour
They all share the same thing... Can be eaten with only rice/fried rice
On my opinion
Haiyaaa...ask uncle Roger to introduce those fried rices to the world as well. 😁
Uncle Roger!😂😂😂
Nasi goreng kampung just put some sambal belacan with a kangkung and ikan bilis. Sambal belacan is what you can eat with ulam or make some a nasi goreng kampung.
Next do a content noodles party mee goreng mamak, mee rebus, mee hailam, mee jawa, mee bandung n etc. We have many kind of mee to offer🤣
wondering if there is a restaurant that sells all the noodles!
All d nasi goreng looked delicious. A simple comfort food.
Nasi Goreng USA is means Nasi Goreng Udang,Sotong,Ayam. (USA) (sepatutnya/originality)
Exactly! But when u order generally u always get the fried egg and daging with nasi goreng! Still good tho but still confused with the name lol
@@mrjourney5940 yup, agree...i think thats a nasi goreng usa with balckpapper beaf is like delicious.i like.
Egg and beef is represented USA (western)
@@muhdalif333 hey that sounds plausible! Egg n meat like egg n sausage is a typical western food! Good observation kawan! ✌
@@khazizyms oyeah mmg sedap! But i think kelantanese generally cooks it nicely! 🤘✌
this is like typical dinner dish for me...my favourite is nasi goreng kampung and nasi goreng paprik ♥️😛😋 usually i eat nasi goreng kampung with soup and sambal belacan
Hi Steve and Ivana, try speak in Bahasa Malaysia like Mat Dan..
