- Flowers and Foliage episode 22: How to Paint a Watercolour Cosmos
Here is a brand new flower painting tutorial that looks at painting white petals on white paper. We've already tried this technique with my watercolour Daisy tutorial, and now you can try it with the much larger petals of this Japanese Cosmos flower.
If you've loved learning with me and want to enjoy a more interactive and tailored watercolour experience, join my Patreon (bit.ly/2EWJIGL) to become part of my watercolour community. I'm making weekly watercolour challenges and offering behind the scenes access all for a small monthly subscription.

I really love your tutorials , I’m learning lots of tips, I am just a beginner, so thanks a lot!!!
Thanks so much Veronica, so glad it's helping!
Perfectly explained...so happy to see this white flower on white paper...
Thanks Mary, we’ve got another white flower tutorial coming tomorrow!
I had been hoping for another tutorial for white-on-white painting - this was again so helpful, and I loved the super-delicate green shading on the top flower. One item I've learned from you that I've appreciated so much is how you do the curvature of your secondary stems (those branching off of the main one). I've noticed that they often tend to curve slightly inwards rather than out, and making that change in my stems has resulted in both a much more natural and a more sophisticated look.
Kim you are observing so well. Yes, the stems might start by curving away from the main stem but the bud or flower at the end will want to curve up back towards the main flower and the sun. I'm so grateful for your comment, it helps me to know I'm making useful videos x
I have just discovered your videos and ordered your book which arrived yesterday........so excited to get started.
I find your method of teaching so helpful.
Looking forward to your next video.
Hope you enjoy it! Thank you so much!
This is so cool. So simplistic. So neat.
Thank you!
Beautiful, my next project, I think I need to slow down when I paint !!!
You can do it!
One of my favourite flowers to grow, and now watching it come to life in the “off season”. If I’m watching cosmos tutorials at Christmas, it must be amazing, and it was. I’m a new painter (like days) and the realistic nature of your painting is what I am enjoying the most. I have just purchased your book and can’t wait to get on with it. Please keep including tips in your step by step (like the tricky brush strokes, colours you are using and at what strength, etc). Happy Christmas !
Thank you Glenda, I will absolutely keep teaching in this way. I’m missing flower painting as we’ve been doing so much Christmas content. Looking forward to new flowers in the new year!
Amazing! Thank you for your tutorials, always so well explained 🌿
Ah I’m so pleased you enjoyed it
Beautiful!!!
Thanks so much Janice!
I’m absolutely hooked on to your channel & videos. Your quiet soothing gentle voice & ethereal looking paintings.
This channel deserves much more subscribers & videos way more views.
I only wish there was a better way to get closeup view throughout the video to see details & strokes & how the colour bleeds & merges & directions it flows into.
Your technique is remarkable. It’s like you “will” the water & colour to flow & stop🌈
As we have progressed we’ve started to film in 4K and do more close ups so don’t worry! Thank you for your lovely comments
@@deWintonPaperCo merci beaucoup for replying!
Been binge watching your channel.
Absolutely inspiring.
Love🌈♥️
struggled with the dots for the centre of the cosmos and the bud...but I gave it a go....
Well done Tracey! It's all about practise. We have since started zooming in on key moments so new videos will capture all the detail.
What brushes do you use when doing these beautiful paintings, thankyou
Hi Bernie. I use pro arte masterstroke brushes, link in episode notes
