The Monotron Delay is a perfect "gateway" device for anyone looking to inexpensively dip their toes into the synth world. It was the first thing I got in "phase 2" of my synth journey (phase 1 being my analogue monosynths collected in the 1980's). It's also a perfect gateway into the circuit-bending world, with its clearly labelled patch points on the circuit board. I just took this leap and soldered a bunch of female dupont cables onto each one, now it has new life as a micro-modular unit to plug into my Bastle Kastle & Drum and Volca Modular. For those willing to go this route it opens up a whole new world of syncro-glitchiness.
@@PFDarkside There is definitely a modding community! Probably a Facebook group as well. Check out the video “We Love Monotron” and the tutorial by Collin’s Lab. So many mod videos! 😦
Right on that's awesome! It's pretty hard to beat the combination of one of the less expensive pocket operators and the monotron delay for getting into synths!
You have to admire the simplicity of this device. Personally, I love pairing it with the Monotron Duo to get some crazy sounds, old Scifi movie noises or something like a Classic Dr. Who episode soundtrack.
Yeah, it's almost hypnotic to use. I can completely lose track of time with nothing other than the monotron delay and a pair of headphones. Thanks for watching!
Yapp, the Korg Monotron Delay is amazing! And you know what? It's also a great noise generator...I love to sample the Monotron noise/hiss/whatever and use it as kind of an FX layer in my lofi tracks
That was amazing… I watched this because I wasn’t sure whether to get one or not. 10 minutes later and I need one and can’t understand how I’ve managed this long without one 🙂
Thanks for showing what it can do on its own! I have mine ordered and will have it in two days. I'm excited to use it with my Volca Bass synth and create some incredible EBM bass lines. Super punchy with that delay. I can't believe it's so cheap. And it looks real Atari retro.😎 Have a great day and thanks again.
So many different timbres in this and great potential samples and loops to layer…you should take bits from this session into the OP-1 and flesh out a full track just from monotron samples
i already have a monotron 'original', and the monotron duo. but the monotron delay is now only $35 new. After watching a couple videos, including this one, I realized I also need this one haha
Wish there was a way to get rid of the omnipresent fuzzy buzzing in the background whenever I use it. That being said, I use my monotrons everyday and love them and love that other people love them
@@danieladdled that’s supposed to be the idea, but they still can’t resist the fancy stuff. My 2 year old found my op-z the other day and was hiding in a corner trying to figure it out…they all love the look of the OP-1 (mostly the graphics on screen) and all the flashy lights on the TR-8 & TR-6s…and I don’t even want to get started in the guitars and brass….and, oh my!!…the piano!!

oooohh, now i get why your mini korg synths are always plugged in; it’s into the audio interface! i thought they had to be plugged in to be powered, but that would defeat the purpose of a small, portable device, wouldn’t it?
The Korg Volcas that I often film with actually have the option to either be battery powered or wall powered. I almost always film with them powered via the wall (and also going into my interferace). However, the monotron can only run on batteries which is why I brought up that fact :) hope that clears things up!
Hey thanks for the video! Is it normal for it to leave a lot of background noise? With the Pocket operator the sound always remains distorted, making it difficult to play techno music by adding the Korg effects, what do you think?
I got a used Monotron Delay as a bonus in a Craigslist buy. For a while, it was my only effect pedal. It got curious attention every time I brought it to an open mic. I gave it to my sister, but she’s so busy as a new doctor that she hasn’t played it in months. 😿

I just ordered one. It will be my first synthesizer I play and experiment with to make noises, sounds, songs, music

I'm looking to get into synths soon and I'm trying to choose between this and the stylophone gen x-1. This video helped me a lot!

Get them both!!!! The Monotron Delay is also a fun way process sound from the Stylophone S1.
Very nice Session! Especielly the sound you did in the beginning👌

Play this thing like this in a rock band, and BOOM! instant Spacerock!
You can easily get into classic Hawkwind or Ozric Tentacles territory

Just landed one of these for a song on fleabay, really looking forward to making a frankenstein-ien mess of the OG Monotron and this

I love the echo on the monotron delay! Just wish it was less noisy and that the aux input had more headroom. Overall it's a nice raunchy box!
I used to hate the noise, but I have sort of embraced it as part of the device. It's got its own unique thing going on :)
The noise is what makes it cool!

It's a fact. I need one of these.

Fun fact - kids can't resist these things, and usually get some gnarly sounds out of them (:
@Daniel Miller I can confirm as a father of 5 sons ranging in ages 2-13
