This is a live recording of a tune I wrote for the Teenage Engineering PO-32 Pocket Operator and and Korg Monotron Delay. The Monotron is just being used as an effects processor, to add extra dirt, drive, filtering, and delay. The sounds played on the PO-32 where created by me with Sonic Charge's Microtonic drum synth. The dawless jam was recorded with my phone and a Zoom H6 on location at Nun Cove, Newquay, Cornwall - though anyone familiar with Newquay may notice a few shots from other local beaches too.

Still the best track made with a PO32 to this day
I love Cornwall and Aphex Twin-esque beat connection here... Great video!
Thanks man! Both Cornwall and the music of Aphex Twin are very dear to my heart.
Fuck's sake, I didn't know the Microtonic could get that lush. That's beautiful mate. I might have to spring for the software after all.
It's incredible how we're on an era of technology when you can make great music with stuff that fits on your pockets.
So true!!!
Harmonicas aren‘t that new though. 😜
Haha! Good point
love this
Finally a PO beat that sounds like a real track
Louie I got tons of those on my channel 🔥🔥💯
@@Perico_Corleone_1999 liar
@@nikitadobrynin3003 He have few but a bit bad and this camera which all time move up/down so f*** annoying.. i left his yt channel after 2 min ....
Yeah, after watching this I kinda regret investing in Volcas and feel like I could do a lot more with the same amount of money if it went into Pocket Operators instead. I guess Volcas have the advantage of MIDI (except the Modular), but Pocket Oprators clearly have superior sequencers with the effects alone.
Also wishing my Monotron Delay's input and output ports didn't start breaking only months after buying it new :/ Thankfully it's super cheap, haha
@@mikeexitsHow's your music journey going now?
it's actually a chillout electronica masterpiece written on one pocket operator.
truly amazing
Wow, thank you, that was a really lovely comment to receive :) I'm not sure it's quite a masterpiece but I'm glad you dig it. Thanks for watching.
Written in a studio, converted to PO for POsterity infa 💯 not bad at all, but as a FM synth there's nothing much that would differentiate it from Caustic on my mobile ... or even a guitar as far as the melody goes
this sounds better than a room full of gear.
+Antonio229 haha, thank you! It probably depends who's using that room full of gear though! :)
This is the first video I’ve seen where someone uses a pocket operator and it doesn’t sound corny.
Wow this is awesome!
I love that monotron's noisy feedback so much!👍👍
Yeah man, the monotron is a crunchy noisy beast. love it.
I don’t know why there aren’t more channels with this concept. This is exactly what I’d do with these things
They make them battery powered after all, so you've got to get out and about them!
I love everything this represents and stands for. Such an incredible work of art!
Thank you for watching, and thank you for your kind words. ☺
Great work
Thank you!
Couldn't get the entire data file to transfer, but was still able to play with some of your sounds and patterns on my PO-32. Very exciting! Cheers for sharing.
What a great place to play some tunes. It sounds great!
I come back to this almost daily. So good. Just received my Monotron Delay!
Ahh, thank you! I'm glad you like it.
I was jamming with my Monotron Delay just this morning. It's such an enjoyable little noise machine to play with. Have fun with yours. :)
👏👏👏 the visuals were a cherry on an already incredibly tasty cake my friend wow
that´s a poweful combo
Woah... I got lost in this. Such amazing tones with this machine. Really deep track.
Thank you!
Just got a monotron delay and nu:Tekt kit today.
cool!
💛
It's really amazing what you get out of these 2 little babies.🔥🔥🔥 Also the vid is really beautiful. Greetings from Germany👋
Awesome sounding and beautifully crafted. The tonic is so versatile and fun. Capable of any music style. Well done!
Man I love the Tonic. Most of the music I've made this year has involved it in some way! Like you say, it's so versatile and so much more capable than it's small size and cost would suggest.
Thanks for your kind words and I'm glad you liked the tune.
Oh, and your Oizo cover is awesome by the way.
Great work with the PO32.
Great jam here. Love the vibes, and the scenery is beautiful and fitting
Very cool! I think it’s the best video with PO I’ve ever seen
No fkn way, just a tonic & delay...wow
Excellent!!
This jam was simply amazing!
Cool combo, never thought about the other mini Korg units in tandem with POs. I didn't know the monotron could be sequenced either, I'm a fan
Really enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing!
Great idea, the sound of the sea is a good way to drown out the amount of noise coming from the Monotron Delay. ;)
Haha! Yep the Monotron sure is a noisy beast.
Batteries, Beats, and the Great Outdoors Part of its lofi charm! :)
Was about to say the same. :)
That's not the sea. It's the Monotron Delay :)
That’s not noise, it’s “SONIC CHARACTER!”
Love these! First of all the tones/compositions are great, using such a simple setup nonetheless! I also really like the subtle sounds of the field recordings blending into the background. And finally the sequences of nature shots interspersed create for a rather poetic visual experience! Please keep it up!
Thank you Jon. Comments like these make me want to grab some toys, get outside and record a new tune right now (then spend ages ineptly editing it)! :)
Exacto mundo.
This is great! I’ve been considering picking up the Monotron Delay and I think you’ve convinced me.
It's a really cool little machine, if a little on the noisey side.
Wow! I have a monotron delay and in the next days I'll have a PO-32, so this video is a real inspiration for me!
Thanks man! Hearing that sort of thing really makes my day. :)
Beautiful music and video!
This is really beautiful. Very nicely done, didn't realise the Tonic could do such lovely synth sounds
Thank you!
Wow. Talk about inspiring, this is excellent.
Thank you! :)
What an inspiration! A lovely little track with almost no gear. Bravo!
Thanks Jimantronic!
Cool I like how the sound waves blends with the song
This is insane, great stuff man!
Sick asfuck
Very nice work, doing so much with those two little machines is an impressing performance!
+Bonnet Léo thank you!
This setup is so smart. I love it! You did a great job with them!
Thank you :)
Amazing! I like sound of the sea on background
I really, really enjoy this video and i really, really like your soundpack... i wish there would be more soundpacks with Melodic elements in it... great vdeo too btw...
Thanks man. I glad you find the sound packs useful. When I get a moment I might throw together a few other melodic sound packs (without time consuming videos) since people seem to be quite in to them. I'll let you know if I do :)
the motion of the ocean
Awesome of you to post the data file! Thank you!!!
Amazing! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Дуже круто 🤘
Excellent.
Really good
Thanks!
wonderful!
I can't believe I hadn't stumbled upon this sooner. This is absolutely brilliant use of the Tonic - it sounds amazing. Nice work!
Glad you enjoy it!
Very nice
mellow sounds, beautiful locale..nice one
+Phillip Dunbar thank you!
Really cool stuff - Its definitely got some Aphex vibes in there when you use the stuttery effects.
Thank you! And yeah, guilty as charged, over half my lifetime listening to Aphex has probably rubbed off on me a little bit 😂
I just got the soundpack... love how you are using this tiny machine!!! Would love to see a video of your workflow/ how you set up sounds on this thing... been thinking of springing for the microtonic license lol
It's just inspiring how much you did with so little. Big up!
👍🤖✋
Thanks man! I find that sometimes the tight constraints of simple machines like these can really help breed some creativity.
Batteries, Beats, and the Great Outdoors I couldn't agree more on that. Like only 8steps can bring a great melody.
👍🤖✋

Precioso, Me pregunto si el piano y los otros sonido son originales de PO-32 o los has descargado

Thanks man!
what a damn good piece of handmade music...
Thank you!
Excellent work. Very nice of you to share the data files too.
Very nice! Congratulations
I am the 700th like! Brilliantly done with these devices!
That was dope.
Man, this is great!
+Alex Sawyer thanks dude!
Whow, you just convinced me I need to get an PO-32. ;-) Great track, and nice video
Thank you! I love the PO-32, it's an amazing little machine and incredibly versatile. I do definitely recomend getting the Microtonic software too though, it really unlocks the potential of the 32.
this sounds so good damn
Love it
This is my favorite.
Thanks! This one seems to be a lot of people's favourite. I keep trying to record a proper 'studio' version of it but it never quite captures the same dirty magic of this live take. Oh well.
Dope
This is absolutely beautiful! :) Amazing what you achieved with minimal setup!
The tonic sounds great... I've been on the fence about purchasing one, but I finally did it. Lol Very inspiring! Keep up the great work. ;)
Thanks man! You won't be disappointed with the Tonic it's a beautiful little synth. Just be sure to let Teenage Engineering know who inspired you to pick it up so I can get my commission. ;)
Btw I just subscribed to your channel. It looks like we share a love of these awesome little machines and I really dig what you're doing with them.
What is this? _reddit?_
Bloody great tune mate
Thanks dude!
More than welcome, you've got a new subscriber here.
I have both of these!!!!
I Dig this...
Thanks!
Excellent!
bravo!
Gorgeous❤️
Tank you
After two years, this is still my favorite po soundpack. The keys have an amazing haunted feeling. Would you by any chance have the original microtonic presets ?
solid!! Way to squeeze gargantuan sound out of two tiny boxes!
Great one. How to you play the notes in the po32? Is there a "keyboard" Feature?
There's no keyboard I'm afraid. I have two ways of writing melodies on the 32, one way is to use the pitch dial, tuning to the note you want and sequencing it in. The other way is with Microtonic, where I make copies of a sound at different pitches and copy them all to the device separately.
@@missingreels thanks!
brilliant
CLASS THAT MATE! 👌
Fantastic!!
nice! Might get one.
They're ace machines. Well worth it in my opinion.
Superbe! Make more please !!! :)
I most certainly will good sir. Thank you! :)
love this one. fav of the series! just got some sweet PO's and i want to make something like this! did you record the ocean separately and added in post? keep up the inspiring stuff dude. thanks!
Thanks EezyPeezy. The ocean and the music were recorded at the same time on my Zoom H6 recorder. The H6 keeps them as seprare files though, rather than mixing them together, so I could mess about with the mix in the edit (mostly bringing the level of the sea up for the beginning and end, and down for the middle).
Great tune for a minimal setup!
+Yann Guillermou Thanks man, I like to keep things simple! :)
I saw the monotron delay for sale today and thought who the hell would buy that.. and now i want one
Haha! They're definitely far from essential bits of kit, but they're good fun. And I reckon I've probably had enough enjoyment from it for what it cost.
@@missingreels I just want some that takes batteries so i can go camping and make beats.. I do landscape photography so i end up in a lot of odd places at odd times with time to kill..... ] i just got a circuit .. but the monotron would be fun to take as well
Good work!
Awesome nomad setup in talented hands. Great shots. What could you ask for more? Am subbed.
👍🤖✋
Thank you for you kind comment and your subscription. :)
Lovely
This is so good! How did you record it on your phone?
Thanks! I filmed the video on my phone, but the audio was recorded on my Zoom H6. I then resynced that audio to the footage in Premiere by aligning the first sound with the moment I press the first button.
dope
I came across this video 'bout week ago & after that I come to see it every day... Excellent work! Did you reccorder it by smartphone mic in, camera mic or camera input, or you used something like Zoom h4? Please let me know, I'd like to do the same with my volca sample!
Thanks for watching, Wojtek Woźniak, I'm really glad you enjoyed it. :) I recorded the audio from the machines on my Zoom H6, and the sound of the waves was a mix of the XY mic on the H6 and the camera mic (which was my phone). I then re-synced the audio to the video in the edit.
I LOVE this song, it's really amazing. You're really squeezing the most of out the equipment. I'd really like to know which camera you're using, could you tell us? :)
Wow, thank you for your kind comment Don. :) To answer your question I'm just using my phone camera, which is a Samsung Galaxy S6. I would like to invest in a proper camera soon, but I'm still struggling to decide which one at the moment.
It looks great on your S6! You've really inspired me to make the most of my Tonic. I don't know why I hadn't realized it's actually a 4 voice monosynth, cheers for the great job again
