I dunno, the US has a lot of natural wonders and beautiful scenery. I get that it's a big country so you can't easily travel from one end to the other, but it's amazing how many different kinds of ecosystems you have over there. Though one thing that is better about Northern Europe is we have the freedom to roam/ every man's right, meaning we can hike and camp on private property as long as we don't destroy anything or disturb anyone's privacy. Afaik people in the US need to go to a national park or other places that are public land, and trespassing on someone's property, even if it's just a piece of forest, can land you in trouble.
"Ø" or "Øy" means Island in Nordic languages, so we may say "Faroe Islands" in English, but that is redundant. They say, "Færøyene" meaning, "the Sheep Islands" - i.e. they discovered sheep there.

Faroe Islander here 🙋♀️ Hi. The name Faroe Islands has nothing to do with the Egyptian Pharaoh. Faroe Islands, or Føroyar in faroese, comes from the Old Norse language and literally means Sheep Islands. It was named by viking settlers from Norway sometime in the 9th century. Also, in danish, it's Færøerne. Fær/får=sheep and ørerne=islands.🐑 Currently the population is about 52000 people and about 80000 sheep living on the islands, so the name is accurate 😁
Since 1900 there has been total of one person killed by bears or wolves in Finland. Only thing to be little worried about in the nature are ticks since they can spread nasty things like borreliosis and encephalitis. Coldness of the winter is relatively easy to cope with. It's the darkness during the winter which is hard.
Denmark is just a flat pancake, so compared to this beautiful nature in the rest of the Nordic countries (not Scandinavia), it's ok. But a flat pancake can be beautiful too 😊

You have to be lucky with the weather to see and for it to be safe.
Yes, Galdhøpiggen is pretty much a waste because there's barely a view and if it is, more often than not it's foggy. There are so many better mountains to climb. Standing on the edge is pretty common among Norwegians, and if you're careful it's a great experience to take in the nature.

They did. There were plenty of viking settlements on the western coast of Finland. However, the reason for why they never expanded further east was because all the riches and good farm land was located to the south and west. They didn't want more of the Scandinavian wasteland where the winters were harsh and life was too difficult.
There were just 2 incidents with a bear in Sweden with a deadly outcome in the last 100 years, though Sweden has the greatest population of Brown Bears in all of Scandinavia. We did 😂
@@zoom5024 Karl: "Harald, why did we come here? Harald?"
Harald: "Don't. Just ... just don't"
They, as well as wolves rather avoid to encounter with humans. The most "deadly" animal e.g. in Sweden are moose, bc you can collide with them when they cross a street.
Finland seems cold in this video, because it is winter. You can see that it is christmas time. It is not so cold in the summer time. Iceland has hot springs because of vulcanos.

Thank you so, so much!!!
The Iceland’s flag 🇮🇸 is basically a reversed Norwegian flag 🇳🇴. Their language is the closest to old Norwegian. Our language was changed a lot through years of unions with Sweden 🇸🇪 and Denmark 🇩🇰.
I’m also never going to stop being confused by the Finnish 🇫🇮 language since it’s in the same language group as Russian while the other languages are closer to German.
Finland is not Scandinavian
@@fletch397 nor is Iceland the guy mixed up Scandinavia (🇩🇰🇸🇪🇳🇴) and the Nordic’s (🇫🇮🇩🇰🇸🇪🇮🇸🇳🇴) I tend to mix up which is which so I just commented on the countries involved in the video and and the correlation between them rather than the grouping in the video being right or wrong.
Finnish is not in the same group as Russian. Finnish belongs to the Finno-Ugric language family while most European languages (including Russian) are Indo-European.
@@richeljou sorry, I’m always messing up the groups except for germanic languages. 😓
I just know they learn Swedish as well as Finnish and except for their word for pharmacy I’m lost when hearing Finnish if my dad haven’t said the word a hundred times after being there for work.
Russian is more closely related to the Scandinavian languages than it is to Finnish because both are in the Indo-European language family. Finnish is in the Uralic language family.
Personally I would give anything to live in Sweden
I definitley think Svalbard should have been included as well - supernice arctic place with a nice tiny town Longyearbyen with some absolutely amazing scenery, some amazing restaurants and lots of exciting stuff to do - including ice caving, polar bear spotting, boattrip to an authrntic Russian settlement and so on... So much. A once in a lifetime experience 😊
Fiord is wend the sea coming in the mountain like a river or a tiny lake.
In Denmark we don’t really have wild dangerous animals. It’s a pretty safe country in general. We are also the least corrupt punter in the world. So I wouldn’t worry about animals or the like if you visit
It is obviously wintertime in Finland in this video, it is not always that cold… 🙄
Fjord is the lakes in norway. Not the ocean, but the beautiful lakes
Bears hibernate in the winter and brown bears are no way near as aggressive as grizzlies anyway. There aren’t really that many wolves in Scandinavia. Unfortunately, many are felled due to their so called danger to livestock/sheep.
A “fjor” is a fjord. That’s how we pronounce fjord, without the d.
Scandinavia is Denmark, Norway and Sweden
The Nordic is Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Finland
Denmark is the biggest country in Europe if you take the Faroe Islands and Greenland too
Mountains all around are pretty, but they steal a lot of daylight
Greetings, from Iceland. What is this "daylight" that you speak of?
There is no a between k & v in Kvalavikur aswell as in the name Knut no a sound kn -ut like knot but with a k sound and a u but not like fur that would be spelt för. Kval probably means Whale so Kw-ah-la-week-ur=,Kwala-week-ur
The word is Fjord the waterways which were formed sons ago by glaciers.
p.s. I am acrophobic too so can understand you racing heartbeats as you watch... !!
There are black volcanic sands in Italy too. 🙂💞
Not a problem to visit other country's overhere. I live in the Netherlands, fill up my car at a Belgium gasstation five miles from home, and after that I'll go shopping in Germany, some seven miles from home. All three country's within one hour! 😁
In my opinion those countries are just the best…☺️☺️
like the only trees near we're i live are mostly just pine trees
Hot spring? ROFL... No, we don't have any of those. When we're up at the cabin during the winter we cut a hole in the ice so the kids can go swiming....
Scandinavia is Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, nothing else.
The Nordic countries is another thing, it includes Finland and Iceland, the Faroe Islands and I'm probably forgetting one or two others.
So, yeah, pretty similar to UK/Great Britain in that it can be confusing.
There is no proof that any wolf has ever attacked a human, unless provoked, so I wouldn't worry about that. Bears can be dangerous, if they have cubs and you stumble upon them, but it's really not an issue.
The most dangerous animals in Sweden are Moose and wild hogs (for traffic) and wasps and bees (for allergic reactions)
You should take a closer look at Denmark whitch he diden’t really mention in the video. Very different from Norway and Swedens Nature.
Yea come see us! Love to have you!
🇮🇸 this is the Icelantic flag
I was like; whaaaat this girl speaks allmost fluent Finnish🤯
