I love when Stephen drops all pretense of an actual interview & just geeks out, he's so genuinely excited it's contagious
He’s by far the best chat show interviewer. By far.
Thanos reading poetry is actually really nice
The Art and Soul of Dune is actually a fantastic book.
Tanya Lapointe’s art book is fantastic, but I’ll always beat myself up for not finding a way to get one of the Limited Edition sets
I listened to that poem about a million times on repeat and I need this book. This is beautiful.
Edit - 1:29 for reference
Saw Outer Range. The first episodes were fascinating. Josh Brolin is great in it. All actors good. Brolin's character had intensity.
His poetry about sunrise in the desert reminds me that Grieg's "Morning" from the Peer Gynt Suite is actually about morning on the desert.
He's my age! Grew up near Big Sur. Saw Ginsburg thrown into the pool at Esalen by Lawrence Ferlenghetti ...music festival. Also Ginsburg was still alive when I went NAROPA in Boulder Co...so many other names we could swap. Peter Coyote now a Zen master as is Gary Snyder in N. CA. I miss Lew Welch a friend if theirs who was not quite making it. He walked into the woods with a gun and was never found. Love his Ring of Bones. Thanks for the memories, Josh. And your writing. 🌹

This reading stimulates me deeply in my art soul.

My soul is being renamed to art as we textification
This is what is called a 'Cold Read'.
He’s a great actor. I don’t know what to think of him as a person so I just stay neutral on that, but, he is easily one of the most interesting and entertaining guests on this show.
watch him cap the latest season of Hot Ones. That's a more personal interview than your typical talk show junket.
He’s a really down to earth introspective dude. Search hot ones. He was the season finale guest just last week
It feels as if he and Colbert were friends since college
@@jaives I watched it. It was good. Thanks

Josh Brolin is just cool...
Stephen is by far the best interviewer for this kind of stuff around.... period.
Indeed, JGuilherme. I like all the late night hosts but Stephen is my favorite

"What did it cost?"
"Allen Ginsberg's approval."
I almost get the feeling it's now a legal requirement that Josh Brolin _must_ be in every new film being made.
Watching films from quite a while back, it's like... "He was in that one too?" I was thinking perhaps like the 6 degrees of Bacon, there should be a 6 degrees of Brolin, he's that prolific.
Oh wait, he was in Hollow Man with Bacon... He was in that one too?
I use Goonies to connect him to Harrison Ford and it’s too easy
You read my MIND. This is so crazy as he was not likeable at all from the start. But honestly, it wasn't him it was his first few roles.
@@ilanoramos6351 Yeah. Must admit he was forgettable - as I forgot him. There's plenty of actors you think... Oh I never realized that was _them_ but Josh has been prolific. I was even surprised when I saw Men in Black 3 some time after it was released as at the time I didn't pay much attention to him even though he was the lead!
Ginsberg knew he'd get snapped.
Wow, the moment he started reading, i realized who he sounded like... Kevin Costner in Dances with Wolves.
I'm sorry you have an aural memory of that!
Yaknow. Stephen should make some kind of effort to find Alan Ginsberg's Mont Blanc all these years later. I think it would be a sweet little memento.
Awesome
Perhaps Josh could have tried the Sicario version, reading it while Stephen poured water over a dirty rag? An alternate version of the ventriloquist and his dummy!
To Josh Brolin: I am a huge Dune fan; I have read the initial trilogy more than 10 times. You were the absolute best pick to play Gourney Halleck. Henceforth, when I think of Dune, you will be the face of Gourney. (spoiler: Gourney winds up back on Caladan with Jessica.....hubba, hubba, lucky Gourney Halleck.
I thought Gourney was described as being much uglier than Brolin, or did I just imagine that?
Gurney.
Careful, Stephen. You don't want Josh to snap his fingers.

They should never, ever, ever remake The Big Lebowski…. but if they HAD to…..
He could really pull the film together.
I've read just about everything that Frank Herbert ever wrote - including "Whipping Star" - and his non-fantasy comments on dry-land ecologies. I have the complete collection of all the "Dune" books. The originals in paperback - much loved, read many times, slightly dog-eared. And the early pre-quels in hard-cover - given to me as a gift. Ditto The Lord of the Rings (I still have the original trilogy I read back in 1969 - plus "The Hobbit," plus "Farmer Giles of Hamm" - plus "The Silmarillion"). I'd go toe-to-toe with Steven any day on trivia from either of those two realms - created by two of the most brilliant minds of our times . . .
Ginsberg loved Beck... good enough for me.
I was at the apartment of Ginsburg.
@Dexter Torres as well as Jacob's well Dexter is not perspicascious. I'll teach you some Aramaic. First I will ask you as you are a Christian, do you want to put yourself beyond repentance. Go read Hebrews 6:19... Something you are not. Anchor of the Soul. You, dude, are bereft

Josh, I would guess that it wasn’t that Ginsberg “didn’t like” you, it was that he was super attracted to you. He being Gay, in a time, when “making a pass” at the “wrong person” could most certainly get one arrested, I bet, Ginsberg was having that inner conflict in front of a very handsome young man.🤭 Or, he just didn’t like you….. 🤣
@Censored Opinions excuse me, but as baby boomer lesbian, I lived being closeted. Even in a liberal city like NY, back in my college days in art school ( Parsons School of Design), afterwards in the both the advertising, magazine and fashion world, you could never be sure. Especially in the 1980’s during the height of the AIDS epidemic. So no, while things have thankfully changed today, back then it was a different world, and your response to my comment is wishful thinking.

Stephen have a bad habit of assuming audiences know who the name drop are. I don’t run around with the same old crowd. Alan Ginsberg died before I was born.
I mean, not everything will be spelled out for you. Ginsberg was a huge figure. One can do a web search, right? If Colbert explained who every person he references is, it would eat up too much time. Research!
