When I was first getting into commander I saw a temmet deck featured on here and it really struck me as fun. Ended up building one for myself. Definitely wouldn't have otherwise
Adam forgot about Anger in their graveyard on turn 7 which would have let them attack at Scott and make enough treasures to activate the Aggravated Assault and take out Scott
Adam missed adding treasures for his second attack off of aggrevated, and it would have been enough to fire it again. Overall, he was at least 5 treasures light by the end of the game. Edit* by my recount, light by 3, but also missed an attack that could have led to an additional 3, and likely the game.
thats what i though, that could be a game ending. and the other missplay was targeting gaeas craddle, he should wait till scott play something to activate magda.
In addition he could've gotten Goldspan Dragon instead of Balefire Dragon and with 3 dwarfs in play that would make infinite combats. While netting a treasure every other combat. I also think he forgot about Anger in his graveyard as he didn't attack after rebuilding his board which was even less treasures for the following turns. Edit: it wouldn't have given him the extra treasure as he wouldn't have been able to float the mana through steps and phases but he did have the 4th Dwarf in hand which then would've worked.
Can you timestamp when he missed them? We were (we thought) pretty on top of those gains. You can at 8:18 after the second combat step the number went up again. It shows 2, but it was 3, as he used one for the Bloodfire Dwarf.
@@MTGMuddstah 3:49 he makes two treasures, not three; 8:16 he makes two treasures, not three (even though he spends one to bloodfire, he had metallic mimic, Magda, and Taurean). That would have been 5 treasures at that point (without casting bloodfire), to get another dragon/artifact pull. 9:04 Adam missed his attack from the Anger in his yard, but that's a missed play, not a missed trigger.
Scott, if you're out there, I want to thank you for inspiring me to make my own Maelstrom Wanderer Elfball edh deck awhile back. It's easily my favorite deck and the one I feel i pilot best. Thanks again!
Always enjoy the gameplay, but maybe add subtitles when players are talking to other players. Personally I couldn't quite make out what Adam's questions were, so maybe some brief subtitles on screen would help 😁
This is a good lesson on (almost) always taking the kills when you have them. If Adam would have killed Scott instead of slamming into muddstah on the turn he also killed Omar, he would have won that game easy. If you give players an inch, they'll take it and run a mile. Take your kills when you can, you might not get another opportunity.
Sometimes it’s okay to make a sub-optimal play in the extremely janky casual format. I get enough of that in standard. EDH is about hanging with friends.
@@zacheryredden5417 I agree that it's perfectly okay to make whatever play you want to make. But this statement I hear many people make, that EDH is purely about janky casual fun, just isn't true. There are many of us who don't play cEDH but also like playing the game to win. That IS part of the fun. Trying to navigate the game in the most strategically optimal way is immensely satisfying for many of us as well.
For what it's worth here was my line of thinking (and of course hindsight is 20/20). Scott effectively would untap with 4 mana and a commander who costs 10. We've played enough games together where this can leave him dead in the water so I gambled on this to start chipping away at others. Omar got the brunt of the attacks because he'd seen a lot of cards from his library and there are combos in his deck I have no answer for, so player removal is the next option.
I built Orvar because of your first gameplay video with him. Been waiting for your deck to go off with him in these games :). He is a very fun commander to run.
Is it just me, or did Mistform Ultimus curse you for daring to replace him with Orvar? The deck seems to be underperforming ever since Ultimus retired. :/
@@MTGMuddstah I just looked at your list... you split the deck between spells dedicated to Orvar's copy effect and creatures dedicated to the tribal theme, and this is apparently causing the deck to underperform on both ends. So yes, you should really pick one strategy and commit to it.
hi Muddstah, i have a question, Can you produce mana in EDH other than your commanders identity? for example, i play a oloro deck and may opponent a kruphyx deck, he plays Hive Mind, then plays a Summoner Pact. i have a chromatic lantern and i tried to pay the Pact cost and my opponent says i cannot pay the summoner cost.
Yes, you can add mana of any color to your mana pool with cards like darksteel ingot. Maybe your opponent plays edh a long time because this rule changed with the release of i think battle for zendikar block (where the change in magic with colorless mana was introduced and we got our eleventth basic land). before that change it worked like he said.
I'm not sure what other options he had in his deck, but I feel like Adam pulled the trigger on that last Magda activation too early, resulting in him not having any answers to Scott's board.
I don't run any of the ETB-deal-damage dragons, so nuking the Cradle felt correct. Letting a swarm-style deck untap a Cradle and a Nykthos is generally a bad idea.

i'm sorry, but when i see Maelstrom Wanderer i expect the deck to literally be 97 lands, Kiki Jiki, and any of 3 easy to acquire other creatures that combo with Kiki jiki. It's super reliant on opponents not having counterspells, and by the way, you can run less lands and run things like those fun high CMC eldrazi and other 8+ CMC creatures and cards so everyone's held up that mana to counter you Kiki Jiki but now they have to contend with the ceasless hunger. Just don't forget to run the 3 peat lands that can tap for 2 mana using depletion counters.

@@robertmendez8383 little bit of both, mana is never the problem because of his ability to copy mana rocks/lands, but if your doing that you don't have enough steam when you finally hit a creature you want to copy, but yeah, some tables just kill him on sight because he can do scary things if the draws ever line up
I'm also sure that there should be some form of optimum amount of cheap spells to copy stuff and payoffs that I haven't quite reached with the deck yet
Whats the curve look like on your Orvar deck? I like the deck (especially the commander) but I hardly ever see you do anything turn 1-3. I see you really only have like... 4ish ramp pieces in the deck. Really should be closer to 7-9. I get that your spells can duplicate your lands, but you need Orvar out to do it and the first couple turns are where ramp really matters. My friend has an Orvar deck thats really nasty, but he consistently gets him out on turn 2-3 (hell, he's done it on turn 1) but he also runs Mana Crypt and Jeweled Lotus since having Orvar out is integral to the decks function. With only 35 lands in yours, I'd up the rock count because everytime I watch you play the deck, it seems to lag behind everyone else really early and sometimes pull a win later in the game if people keep hitting each other instead of you.
Adam should of won that On turn 6 Unless infinite combos aren't allowed Instead of Balefire dragon search clock of omens then could have created infinite treasure and pretty much win after that
