You look great with the beard, Fr. Columba! :D Apart from the abstinence of vanity, it also distinguishes the Franciscans from the general public. There's one CFR friar (Fr. Leo, I think) who has black hair... but his beard is totally white, something I found fascinating. God bless. +
Haha, that’s okay! I’m a woman too and wear make up. It can be part of our femininity, but if it starts to become a vanity (beyond the desire to be presentable) it might be something to fast from, eg I used to fast from it on Fridays in college and found that very helpful. Katie
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for all your efforts. You and John Michael Talbot and the Duck Dynasty people seem to have the same beard anointing. Seems to work. All for Jesus!!!
Thank you for sharing Brother… I was curious about your beard. I gave up hair dye 5 yrs ago. Now my hair is silver & dark brown , & have continued to grow it very long. I believe that being our authentic self brings us closer to God. I am a Third Order Carmelite and embrace my love for God. My prayer is that people see God through me. Amen 🙏📿✝️
Wow! I really appreciate how you shared your struggle with us about your appearance, Father! What a powerful lesson that was for me. Being a woman, the beard part doesn’t apply, but the principle is the same…I can certainly see where I need to make some improvements in that area of my life. What a beautiful reminder for all of us…really hits home. Thank you! 🙏♥️ Meline
O vanity vanity all is vanity. Putting my best foot forward is a ‘type’ of vanity for me, usually using jokes to hide insecurities. It’s not all bad but must remind myself constantly that after a joke too often or too far, my humility better be ready for a little workout, as it is never too far away. Thank God for Lent as it is always a good time to offer up our vain pitfalls in humility 😊. Thank you Father for your witness, beard and ALL. Pax Christi.
God bless you for the sacrifice, Father. I like to remember that I will lose this body to death and it will decay, only to rise to a glorified life if I'm faithful. That helps me.
From when I was tiny, I’ve always been attracted to men with beards. That being said, I definitely prefer a short/close beard. The longer dangley beards just get in the way of everything.
I have leukemia, two prosthetic knees, and anxiety attacks. I grew a beard to remind me I wasn't 20 and perfectly healthy anymore. Yeah, I am an old fella. There's a lot of stuff I can't do anymore. That's humiliating. So this beard reminds me I ain't no spring chicken!
Shalom Father, I am From India (Kerala State) Father, I am really so much interested to learn and Join Franciscian Friars , Father can you please help me , i want to be with you guys and learn🙏❤️
And more or less thats why I have a beard and very very short hair, even though Im a Secular Franciscan. My hair and "how I look" becomes a huge vanity, and its a huge weakness I possess. When people, men and women, tell me how great my hair looks and how lucky I am to have such full thick locks, it then makes me want to care and it becomes a primal focus in my life. With my hair taken off and my beard just naturally grown - there is no room for vanity. Its removed. And all of a sudden, my prayer life increased. My focus was back on the good things eternal. Now I no longer care how I look, in this respect. And luckily, the compliments and comments have reduced.... and when I do get a passing comment on "What have you bloody done!?", it reminds me of my vocation and I thank God for it. It must seem very strange to others, but thats my stance.
good morning, I love beards also. but my wife doesn't always like mine. so occasionally I will either cut mine back to just the chin. I've had it longer.. but it usually becomes a distraction for others.
I shaved my hair off because I was vain and was mad at nurses damaging my long beautiful hair that I had spent so much time growing out and being careful not to damage it. I had a massive stroke and couldn't take care of myself it was more than halfway down my back. Jesus said if your eye causes you to sin then pluck it out. My hair caused me to sin. Instead of being grateful for help. I was mad
@@ctmcatholic thanks so much I am grateful for your reply. I was just wondering if there was a way I could contact you such as a phone number or email address? Thanks
I am all for the beard lthink it is like Jesus and also you save some money going to the barber shop you could give it to some worthy cause.St Francis had the right idea......now you can 😅
I feel grateful that Father Columba is beautiful inside and out!!
Haha, thank you Jessica!
@@ctmcatholic Is there a temptation of thinking - my beard is better than yours, I look the part better than you?
Fr.Columba, what is on the inside shines through your eyes above that massive beard!
Thank you for your kind words, Mary!
Most beards look totally scruffy.
I appreciate how these outward checks and balances can help us interiorily. Nice of you to share this with us Father.
Glad you find them helpful, bless you!
Love how you use the beard as a daily reminder of putting Jesus first.
Thanks Stephen!

Thank you for shaing that. I thought maybe the beard is required, but now I understand why not all friars grow them. I appreciate your posts.
I'm bearded Father and I want to be a 3rd order Franciscan. Pray for me please.

Fr. Columba wears a teddy beard!😲
Haha, now you know!
This is such an awesome act of humility and sacrifice for God. You really inspire me. Now I'm thinking of growing a beard too!

Father, I believe God sent your video to me. I needed to hear this (about the hair. I don't have a beard.🤭👍)

That is so nice , maybe when you meet Jesus - he will say I love your beard - bro ? 😊
Lol, maybe!
There was a long time in the 70s and 80s that Franciscans shaved their beards and mustaches, in spite of centuries of tradition

hello can i ask what CFR position in the TLM thanks
Your beard is way cool; you look very cute. (Don't worry, I'm a harmless old lady)
Thank you.
I don't grow good enough whiskers so that I could grow a beard. I have summer whiskers. Summer here, summer there.

I think it is time to make a comparison between Fr. Columba's beard and Fr. Boniface Hicks'😅
😂
Are you also required to shave your head? Thanks
Yes.
@@ctmcatholic thanks so much I am grateful for your reply. I was just wondering if there was a way I could contact you such as a phone number or email address? Thanks
Here’s the hipster explanation: Me - “Sweet beard.” You - “Thanks Bro” - replying with a Bro chin-nod.
Haha, works!
Question should be, "Why don't you have a beard?" After all, long hair makes a woman; a beard makes a man.
Haha, that’s one way of looking at it!
I enjoy very much listening to friar Columba, but my attention is always drawn to the beard.
We have a podcast version: www.calledtomore.org/listen
@@ctmcatholic Ha! Ha!, thank you, but then I will miss friar Columba's expressive face! What a dilemma!

I thought it was some sort of prepper / ultraconservative thing, like Duck Dynasty.
lol, for some that may be an element!
Well. Your beard looks great. It keeps women away. Haha.
They don't like it. better.❤❤❤❤

longer but not denser.
The video or the beard? Lol
I think all monks do? It's Chastity isn't it?
