So what do you think? Who has the best religious habit and why?
Matt Fradd the Congregation of Holy Cross-the cassock, the cinture, the cape, the biretta and THE SUPER HUGE AWESOME PECTORAL CROSS TUCKED INTO THE HABIT. Looks super cool when a CSC is just strolling about
CFR or Capuchins because they look like Jedi 🤓
Carmelites for sure. I just love the whitish cape on the brown. Plus, the whole Church is able to participate in a promise made by Mary if they so choose through the Carmelite scapular, just a smaller version! Clearly Our Lady favours it... she wore it herself when she appeared to St. Simon Stock and during the last Fatima apparition. And in all honesty, it's more correct to say that the Carmelites wear her garb, not the other way around.
Sisters of Life!!
The Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary, because I'm biased! Also, it was based off of nurse uniforms in early 1900's Germany and was very practical.
"That's kinda weird but I support you" 😂
JAJAJAJAJ
@@luizamagalhaes7665 His ending bf comment at the end was disturbing .>.....!!!
Carmelites for the win. Our Blessed Mother Mary makes black and brown GO TOGETHER. 'nuff said
Sisters of Life very close 2nd
Hands down Dominicans with the black and white habit
I vote for Dominicans! They have kind of a Gandalf the White look. I'm prejudice, because when I was converting to the Catholic Church they were very helpful. They answered my complicated questions, and their smiles always cheered me up. The Dominican is never fully dressed without a smile. They are also why my favorite saint is St. Thomas Aquinas.
Matt, you should write a new version of Stephen Covey's "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" entitled, "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Monastic Orders." I'd buy a copy.
How about "The a Seven Habits of Highly Effective Religious Orders" so Dominicans, Norbertines, and other mendicant orders can also be included?
I love when these two get together. Such brotherly love.
They look like brothers...
There’s an order of nuns in Philly who have pink habits. I love them. Also the Sisters of Life in NYC have nice habits.
They belong to the Sister-Servants of the Holy Spirit of Perpetual Adoration (SSpSAP) founded by St. Arnold Janssen in 1896.
There are also Pink Sisters here in my country :)
Fr. Pine is awesome!! He led a retreat at my high school
I could listen to you are Fr. Pine talk about anything. Best friend goals!!!
I’ve always thought the Benedictine monks look awesome in a group.
Sisters of charity habits make you feel like you are in the presence of a real disciple.
The carmelite habit with the cape for solemnities looks awesome!! I wouldn’t wear but still awesome😌👌🏽
It is wonderful that orthodox congregations are getting many vocations.Sadly some of the great Congregations like the Maryknolls,Sisters Of Mercy,Daughters Of Charity,School Sisters Of Notre Dame,Grey Nuns,Sisters Of Charity Of NY and others have completely abandoned their traditional habits and are disappearing.Hopefully one day young women will enter these Congregations, restore the traditional habit and bring these great orders back to life!
This was hilarious and holy all at once. Good job!
The priory with the "Spanish" guy is the Dominican priory here in Cambridge, England, UK 😊
At least the man at the airport didn't think you were a KKK member...
Not funny
You said nobody is going to watch this show... I did until the end! Hahaha! Benedictine (OSB) habit is actually the coolest look from my perspective. I like OP as well.
For male habits, I have to go with Teutonic Order. They wear a black cassock and a white coat with a black cross in it. And the Grand Master gets a fancy coat with a golden cross. It looks so majestic.
Do they still wear it? I searched online but couldn't find a picture, just old drawings.
@@sarahisatitagain Yes, they still wear it! If you search in German ("Deutscher Orden") you will find some pictures! But most of the male members I know don't wear the habit in their daily lives, usually just on special occasions and in liturgy.
@Elena Deinhammer oh thank you! You weren't kidding, this habit is MAJESTIC!!!!
I wish there was a website where I could see all the religious orders and the habits. If you know of such thing, pls let me know.
Blessed day!
It's what lies beneath that truly matters ❤
Donimicans! Dominicans! Dominicans! Can there really be any debate? The nuns' habits shown are nice, Cistercians and Trappists lack the a capuce, Norbertines lack a proper belt, FOR are West Point or Confederate gray (and admit it, don't they look just a bit rumpled?), but Dominicans, now, (adopts Crocodile Dundee accent) *that's* a habit.
6:21 --- 'state your reasons.' Well and dominicanly done. See: with this habit comes habits of true mind, and certainly under no circumstances at all at no time ever any parochialism. Never.
Haha, you've left out the Orthodox Great Habit
I wish these younger orders would restore the wimple. The wimple keeps the attention on the face, particularly the eyes. These other veils with the hairline exposed are distracting
The traditional habit of the Sisters of Mercy were the best.
This was a hilarious conversation.
I do like the Dominican habit, as a Franciscan I love my habit.
6:09 I think back on this bit a lot; These two are hilarious 😂
A brown Franciscan habit, sandals, mantle and Franciscan Crown/ rosary. The traditional Redemptorist habit is certainly at the top of the list also. The habit of the Order of St. Paul the Hermit is very nice. Their holiness is what's most impressive.
I attended two different Catholic schools, for 12 years. We had the Dominican Sisters OP, of Mount St. Mary, Newburg, NY at Our Lady of Lourdes grammar school, Paterson, NJ. They had a 'brutal' habit. then, when I was in like the 7th grade, age 12-13, their habit was modified and simplified greatly then. Then came high school. St. John the Baptist Cathedral high. With the Sisters of Charity. From Convent Station, NJ. They had a hard to define habit. But mostly the 'sqiggly' , 'ripply' thing that went tight around their face and down their neck a little. I was young, but I used to feel badly for them. Then, in like my second or third year of high school, The Sisters of Charity drasticly changed their habit. And, no more sqiggly thing tight around their face. BTW, I had one foot in the Dominican teaching brothers order a million years ago. Then I got hooked on machinery, and spent the rest of my fifty year working career as a mechanic. Sorry for the long post.
Where abouts in England were you, Matt?? I'm from Bradford, and we have the Friars of the Renewal in the city centre! Also, I think the Dominican at 5 minutes is Fr Nicholas Crowe of the English Province, he's a wonderfully kind and holy priest!
Matt is an Aussie by birth. He worked in Ireland with NET (?) for a few years.
I love that this is just a guy having some banter with a friar. You don't often get to see in public that friars are cool people who like to joke around too
Passionists hands down! Black with belt with Rosary. They wear an amazing cape balck with the Passionist heart on it!
5:00 Not Spanish! That's Fr Nicholas Crowe OP of the English Province.
The Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy (St. Faustina's order) have the best habits.
This was fun. Let's do this again.
Benedictine and Carthusian hands down!
I am delighted to hear it was 2 weeks only.
After all, it is the most simple garment on earth (like the east has the saree or monk cloth).
I am European and so, just for warmth, it is logical to cover as much as possible.
The habits that impress me the most are those of the Heralds of the Gospel, the Knights of Justice of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters (Pink Sisters), Eastern Catholic nuns, and Eastern schema monks.
Yep I liked the Carmelites habit, but I also like Dominicans too.
Happy Easter 👏🏻😇😇 He has reason 🤍🤍🤍
I beg to differ (lol) about the best habit of women religious. I used to be an Oblate Sister of St Francis deSales, and their habit is not only utilitarian but quite classically designed - French order designed by a French designer! The only change they’ve made in the last 30 years is to the veil (which was a bit upsetting since the veil we had was easy to wear and looked great!) I have a photo and would post it if you could post photos here.
If you post to an image-hosting site like imgur, you can send the link to the photo
I have to vote for the traditional habit of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary(BVM). They taught at my friend Delores' school, Our Lady of the Angels in Chicago. Sadly, the traditional habit was modernized in 1959 to a much less evocative one.
I much prefer carmelite habit or benedictons
Carmelites are number one hands down. Doms are number 2
Laughed so hard at the last comment 😂😂 God really has a plan for us all.
the beautiful blue of the Sisters Adorers of the Royal Heart of Jesus is absolutely beautiful!!
The ending was hilarious
I prefer the Dominican habit myself! ❤
Important habit factors (from one who has given numerous retreats to religious Sisters and Brothers: 1) witness to Christ and His Church in an incredulous world, 2) bearing mockings and insults as a true form of penance, 3) not feeling “at home”(i.e., truly “comfortable”) until you are, in fact, back home and in the familial company of your (similarity clad) brothers or sisters.
When I saw the title for this video I thought, “Easy! The Sisters of Life of course!”
Please please please have a session with religious sisters....ppllleeeaaasseeeee!!!!
I don't know if you already have, if yes please do mention the title of the video. thank you.
Franciscn Friars of the Immaculate are pretty cool too. Franciscan habit (Gray/Blue) with same color cappa. They wear a miraculous medal over their hearts. Have the cincture with four knots
I love the black wide sleved augustinian habit with white inner sleeves
Definitely the Missionaries of Charity.
Great epoisode...you are a great host............thanks. PS Dominicans beat everyone !
So I want to point out something hilarious. The proposed new Dominican habit for The Netherlands was in the Google Images that scrolled by. It is just crazy. I saw one of the images flash by and was hoping, HOPING, he could have commented on it.
Yes, with Mother Theresa, the blue lines saree was cheaper than the plain white saree.
There’s a community of monastics in Lithuania that wear a brown robe with a green scapular called “Pilnų Namų Bendruomenė” (Full House Community).
You most take a look to the Heraldos del Evangelio, from Brasil.
I prefer the Brigittine nuns' habit, I love the little crown, it looks great.
Norbertine, Cistercian, Dominican
Delightful
try on Sisters Adorers habit ;)
Mother Angelina's sister have a Dominican habit with a brown scapular.
The Benedictine habit is just awesome
Are we running habit fashion shows? The best habits are those which are the most functional and simple.
Fr. Has a beard now!
I like the Daughters of St. Paul habit! It's slightly more modern.
OP's definitely have the most handsome habits but I do admire the the Sisters of Life blue as well. The pre V2 sisters were more beautiful habits.
I would love to get a habit
I went to a Fancy Dress Party in a Scarlet Cardinal’s Dress.I won the Fancy Dress Competition. What
surprised me,was when People asked me to hear their Confessions, and also if I could Marry them.
I should off put my Nun’s Fancy Dress on.I am wondering what People would off asked me(
As a Franciscan he is right lol
I choose the French habits you see in the classic movie "Come To The Stable".
Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles
As franciscan the best habit is to serve god in humbles and repentant heart note which is beast habit coz all we are children's of god
OIC Connectionists received their habit from the Virgin Mary and it’s beautiful.
Obviously the passionists.
I like the Benedictine Habit
6:28 Truest thing I've heard Matt say. And how can one NOT fall in love with the image of Christ, wherever and in whomever it may be found?
I discerned with the Crosiers, Cannons regular order of the holy cross. They still have the best habit,...
check the Trinitarians( osst) and the Hieronymites.
Haaa... this was a fun show.
I'm a personal fan of the Jesuit cassock, the difference being they don't have exterior buttons that you see on a Cardinal's cassock
Clean, simple, yet sophisticated
For the best habit amongst Men Religious: Dominicans; For Women Religious: Daughters of Charity (Before Vatican II) and the Bridgettines
Trappists! No good reason. I just remember seeing a video or photo of Thomas Merton thinking, "That habit looks cool!"
I thought your not supposed to wear a Rosary. (I'm converting to Catholic faith)
You’re not supposed to wear a Rosary as jewelry, but to keep it close and remind you to pray it is okay. That’s why most Sisters wear a Rosary. As long as you’re not wearing it because of its appearance or because you think it looks good though, you’re okay.
Sisters of life for the win 😭🥺🤍🙏🏾✝️
Mercedarian friar habit
Carthusian, then Carmelite ☺
"No one's gonna watch this show. Its fine..." lol
Dominicans have the best dress imo
I was thinking Sisters of Life has the most beautiful habit - and I am not even a Catholic. :) I don't like the fransiscan habit for women so much.
The most fancy habit I have seen was School sisters of Christ the King - fancy, but not my cup of tea. :)
I like the religious who don't wear habits, they seem to be forgotten
Lol! SOLT!
The Rosarian Dominican Sisters habit
It wasn’t discussed, but I think Trappist habits are the best looking. :)
Carthusian...
Service is what reallly matters guys, not habits.Habit is only a uniform. If someone wants to join only because it looks kinda cool" ,and wants to look like Jedi ,please dont ,just buy a real Jedi suit.😅
Praemorstratensian or Carthusians for sure…and this is coming from a secular priest who wears a cassock everyday.
I think the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate have the best habits.
Carmelites nuns first, then Orthodox nuns 2nd!
Orthodox monks especially Schema Monks
This video desperately needed some snarky commentary on the Norbertines' vestigial capuce.
Mother Angelina's order
