    Thanks ! Great video.
    I have a clump of Buda Belly Bamboo inside my screened lanai. It’s been in the ground for several years and the canes are well bellied and beautiful. I get about 4- 5 new shoots each growing season. I live in central Florida.
    My issue is that the newer mature canes are fighting for sunlight and extending/ pushing into the top of my lanai.
    -My question is: will I damage the mature cane if I cut the tops of the clump to for appearance and fit within my limited space?
    I was planning to use the pruned cuttings cultivation .
    Chris

    Glad I found your channel! So, I see you are taking cuttings. But, where exactly should I be making the cut? I can’t see where you are making the cut, and you don’t explain where to cut. I’m sorry if I missed that part.

    Greetings! Thank you for this video! I love your landscaping with all the white rocks and the simplicity of the plants your are growing - not all clumped on top of each other. Do you find it easy to maintain with regards to weeds popping through? May I ask what do you use for weed control? Also, you may already know this, but earthworms make for good soil aeration. Thank you!

    what kind of light is best for bamboo cuttings to root?

    • @EatYourBackyard
      @EatYourBackyard  4 роки тому

      I hope you subscribe and turn on notification, just started a new 50 pot grow challenge. Depends, but they like partial light typically. I have found most varieties will also grow fine in full sun, just need to make sure the soil doesn't dry out, in FL that is a challenge in full sun, unless you water it a lot.

    Earyourbackyard, I’ve been trying to grow some bamboos ( golden Hawaiian, Buddha belly, Angel mist, and black) in my yard. I put some grass fertilizer without the weed killer on the golden Hawaiian and now my bamboo is drying out really quickly and the new shoots that were growing have now stalled. Is there anything advice you can give me to trying to revive my plant or is there no chance for revival??

    • @EatYourBackyard

      I haven't actually grown that one. Some bambusa are easier to propagate from cuttings then others though. Best bet is to give it a try. You could also try to take a division from the clump with some roots, better chance for success.

      +Sarah V I am glad you found my channel also! I would pick a clumping bamboo, no doubt, the running bamboo are a nightmare to control. That being said, for privacy, a bambusa variety would be best propably sunburst bamboo. I have a video on that kind if you want to check it out.

    Wow, is it really that easy? I'm doing some research for an upcoming landscaping project and it seems like everyone says something different about this subject. Most of what I hear from growers is "it's almost impossible to grow from cuttings." Obviously, it would be a conflict of interest to tell me it was this simple. Here's to hoping it is. Cheers.

    • @MaekarManastorm
      @MaekarManastorm 7 років тому

      frozencons most reliable method is having a rhizome divison.

    • @frozencons
      @frozencons 7 років тому

      A friend of mine cut down a very large bambusa oldhamii that isn't giving up the ghost very easily. It's still very much alive under the surface and very actively trying to re-establish itself above. Today, I took a few different cuttings from it; rhizome, culm, branch... I have them in 3 gal. pots of potting soil. I'm hoping they all take, obviously, but the rhizome cutting already has a lot of roots and looks to stand the best chance.
      Cheers

    Why you call it 'Buddah Belly Bamboo' are there a variety called ''Jesus's Belly Bamboo' too. Insane people who wanted to insult buddhism promoted the 'Belly Buddha' or so called 'Laughing Buddha'. Please don't insult my religion without knowing the science in it...

    • @Rejector666
      @Rejector666 8 років тому

      Except the picture that people generally have of Jesus doesn't have a big belly, and all the Buddha images people see do. Is it hard to consider somebody just came across this very good looking cultivar, and thought 'Hey these traits kinda remind me of the Buddha icon we are all used to seeing around, I'll name it after Buddha'..
      No need to assume this was done as mockery, is there. :)
