“I met Walter Martin fifteen years ago when the National opened for Walkmen on a tour of shitty clubs in the American southeast. On that tour, I learned a lot about how to be in a band without ruining your life. I also learned a lot about Florida, Tennessee and Georgia.
Walt and I have stayed friends, and about three years ago we started passing ideas back and forth. Distant Axis started from a sketch Walt sent me named Savannah. I think it's about falling out of touch with someone or something you once thought would be there forever.”

I love it too. Different, but just as good IMO. In the National, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This work has Matt's fingerprints all over it. Love it.

I love this album and particularly this song so much.
Why I barely hear anyone talking about it?
This song is as good as anything The National ever released, and I am a big fan of the band
Definitely sounds like decemberists crane wife. I know it's hard to write a song cuz there's only so many chords but if you're going to play the exact same 3 chords as another indie rock hit maybe at least don't down strum it the exact same way?
