This game was the best thing that could happen to raiders , despite the loss it would set the tone for the SUPER BOWL rematch. AWSOME GAME. WHAT A GREAT YEAR FOR THE RAIDERS.
This game literally had everything It had offense (both teams had over 400 yards) It had defense (both teams combined for 11 sacks) It had special teams (Pruitt’s 97 yard punt return score, 395 combined punt and kick return yards)
I remember this game very clearly. Watching highlights from the good old days reminds me of how good the Raiders really were. They had the always overcome many many turnovers yet they would still win most of their games. I know chunk it Plunkett threw a lot of interceptions early in this season and Mark Wilson started a few games. I was at the one he started in Dallas. But I'm glad they went back to Plunkett cuz he is a great quarterback. Just their offensive scheme constantly throwing deep passes created a lot of interceptions that the team had to overcome. I can't imagine a team nowadays overcoming all the turnovers the Raiders had back then
One thing to note is that Hall of Famer Mike Haynes was not playing for the Raiders here, as he was still with the Patriots. When the two teams met again in the SB, the Raiders secondary was locked down with the infamous "The Judge" Lester Hayes and Mike Haynes
Fans weren’t cheering when we got Mike Haynes and locked your midget receivers down . Redskins got smoked in the Bowl and Theisman got lit up by the Raiders d line
This IS the best Raiders team in history
I concur!
Super Bowl XI team was better
I agree.,

I still remember this game. As if it was yesterday. What a game!
Redskins had 17-7 halftime lead in this game/although they were outscored in llnd half, 28-20, they held on for 37-35 victory
@@ChristopherHagee And the Raiders got revenge by waxing the Redskins in the '84 SB 38-9!
@davidmoorman7062 That was in January, 1984
@@ChristopherHagee Yes it was!
@@ChristopherHagee Played at "the Big Sombrero" in Tampa!
One of the greatest games in Washington history!

There's quite a few players from HBCU.
Great game! I remember this game Cliff Branch had a 99 yard td
Raiders should have kept Calvin Muhammad. he could have been one of their all time greats, especially with Cliff Branch nearing retirement.
one of the best games ever played....almost 1000 yds of offense
And almost 400 yards in kick and punt returns
I think Howie Long had 4 sacks in this game, but per usual, the over-emphasis on Offense...

Washington had 6 sacks in their own right
I thought the Redskins would destroy the raiders in Superbowl at they beat down the 🐏 Rams and held on against 49ers
Thought the Raiders had my Skins dead to rights in this one. Unfortunately, a few months later...

@@oregonianowl885no Haynes, no Marcus Allen, Branch out in the 2nd half and still had Washington beat.
Same 2 teams would duel each other again in Super Bowl, XVIII in Tampa, Fla. in January, 1984 w/Raiders returning favor beating Redskins, 38-9
Amazing how 3 months later the Redskins were destroyed in the super bowl
Marcus Allen was out for this game and was MVP in the Super Bowl so that had to of been a big reason why the two games were so different.
RAIDERS GOT SCREWED
