299! All hail the King 👑👑 I was a freshmen in HighSchool in 95 (boomer) and Playstation was the biggest thing since sliced bread back then. Everyone talked about it
I was a Junior in high school. I wasn't initially sold on it. Wasn't till mid 1997 when they started showing Final Fantasy VII commercials that I knew I had to have it.
@@davidgill7412 I agree the first year of PSX was not very good. SONY had such clout back then they just plowed there way into the industry with lots of money. Reminds me of how Microsoft did it
@@BubblegumCrash332 I remember. I mostly knew them from their Walkmans and TV'S. Their 3rd party acquisitions were extraordinary. Konami, Capcom, Square, and Namco all jumped ship. By the way, love your screen name.
@@BubblegumCrash332 I start feeling old when I think of these console anniversaries. The PS1 is 26 years old (27 if you go by Japanese release date). I feel blessed living during that time. All the anime and games coming out then. A time when we were free with the future ahead of us. Before the dark times, before this politically correct dystopia.
The contrast between this video and the GameCube video is notable. The GameCube was your formative console, so you're very passionate about it. I didn't give a shit about the GameCube and thought it was ridiculous, until I started playing Luigi's Mansion on the Nintendo Wii. Anyway the PlayStation was my formative console. Not being critical I really enjoy your video essays. This is the third time I've listened to all of them. I really enjoy your work!
I was an idiot. First time I was getting to choose a console and I chose the Sega Saturn. I was in the UK so I thought that Sega had beat Nintendo twice here so Sony didn't stand a chance. What was more annoying was the cost of the Saturn compared to the PlayStation and begging my parents to get it. Anyway, enough crying over spilt milk. Loved Wipeout. Great video.
I owned a PlayStation when I was young, but I never played it. I don't even know the reason or story behind myself getting one and I don't think I got any games for it.
I absolutely loved the PS1 and for me it is the best console to ever be released. The way Sony had came into the business will never be seen again. OK, yes you have the same sort of thing with Microsoft but they only got into the console business because they knew had they not Sony would have destroyed them in terms of company growth and they could not have that. Hats off to Microsoft for making the Xbox because I feel if they hadn't came in when they did then Sony may of just got way too arrogant as Nintendo at the time could not compare to Sony at that time. The N64 wasn't anywhere near as good as some make out and only had maybe 20-25 must own, must play games. Other than that it wasn't anything special at all. For the first year of the PS1's life it was not all that good but after it took off and totally destroyed both the Saturn and N64. Since then Nintendo hasn't been the same for me. A lot of people swear by the Gamecube but I didn't think there was anything to rave over about it. Same with the Dreamcast, I never got why everyone puts it up on this godly pedestal. The seeds were sown from the 6th gen that both Sony and Microsoft would lead the console market for the next 20 years while Nintendo would always be in 3rd place between the 3. I don't get why everyone at the minute raves over the Switch. I have one and they aren't anything special. It's basically a port machine. The only reason I bought one was for my daughter otherwise I wouldn't of bothered at all as for me Nintendo is the worst when it comes to anything online based. Buy a digital Wii U game that is clearly compatible with the Switch, No we don't want to let you transfer you digital purchases over to New compatible hardware, we want to charge you full price for it again. People lost their shit over a 10 year old port of Skyrim, I thought wtf why would you even bother ohh wait it's portable nit exactly anything special though is it? Nintendo for me died after the N64. They have never been the same since Sony came into the market and maybe that's a result of them being so arrogant as to not go ahead with Sony/Nintendo collaboration because they will never touch NES/SNES quality again in my eyes. By that I mean having that must own console because as far as I am concerned none of their consoles since the SNES has been must own.

You either die working for Nintendo, or you live long enough to see yourself become their greatest competition
I was 6 years old when I got a ps1 in 1997.. this console defined my childhood 😢
This is good research! I love this series

Great video!
Lara (as in Lah-ra) not Laura! Great video and series by the way 👍🏻
You are a very good presenter. These videos could be used for training employees on how to present a product or service.
What 😐
I was kinda too young to remember much about PS1, but my uncle had one and I played the shit out of digimon rumble arena. That shit was the bomb.
I played that game a ton when I finally got a ps2. Such a fun game
I remember those big cases when we went to rent games.
Imagine buying a ps5 or switch for $199 (granted 199 was more expensive back in the 90s but still)

I like the color. A little disappointed that it turned out more purple than black, but I'll take it.
@@DoubleDog what about the story of Xbox series X? The story of emulators? The story of Gaming chairs. What about those?
@jabroni destroyer her* 😘
Why do you think we care that you’re bothered about it? I think the color is superb personally!
