As someone that was spoiled by Shredder's Revenge, I agree this game feels a bit undercooked. I think there was a lot of potential for the gameplay to have more variety like TMNT did, but instead it kind of just keeps the same mechanics from like 30 years ago with very little to add to the formula. I am also not very enthusiatic about that price tag, especially when you can get Shredder's Revenge and it's DLC for less.
Yeah.... not gonna lie. As some one who grew up playing the 90s beat em up power rangers games, your describing exactly how they played and what I loved about them 😅😂
The game was decent. Nowhere near close to Shredders Revenge. The game is severely unbalanced. Some levels last 10 minutes, some lasts 2. There were only 14 levels. And with some of them being 2 minutes long, you’re in for a shorter experience than expected. The shooter levels are cool, but they are usually the short levels. All rangers have basically the same move set besides using their character specific weapons. The power rangers move slowly, even my five year old called this out within the first couple minutes of playing. The megazord levels are rough and clunky, but operational and can be conquered after a little trail and error. Taking turns controlling the megazord with a 9 and 5 year old is a nightmare. There are a couple glitchy moments. The game even crashed on us around the 10th level. so the game is well-needed for updates. Not worth the $30 I paid, but I did enjoy the game. Me and my two kids played and beat the whole game. I even allowed them to skip school, we were that hyped. The game did fall a little flat, but it is a good game! Just wait for a couple updates, and if you’re not in a rush, wait for a sale. Happy gaming!!
Yeah man... I was so hyped & had to stop @ 1st stage. I'm waiting for the full update. Cause I want to get a full experience of this game as a 90s kid watching the show , not like this. Quite sad when the game wasn't up to my expectatio YET.
@ yeah, this game just needs a couple updates. My kids and I went back into the game today to collect the rest of the “Mementos” hidden in the levels, and the game really is not bad. I think everyone is just trying too hard to compare this game to shredders revenge. Even I am guilty of this. The game is very solid, it just has some rough edges. Regardless, my kids and I love the game and it has become our new after school/work activity. We are excited for the coming updates and hoping for future DLC. In my opinion, this is the biggest bone us 90s power ranger fans have been thrown and we should support it the best way we can. This game probably won’t sell as good as shredders revenge, but we still have a chance to make our voices heard.
I agree with the review. Comparing the combat with streets of rage 4 and shredders revenge this game is pretty bland. It’s a shame because I had high hopes for this.
Streets of Rage 4, River City Girls 2 and TMNT Shredder's Revenge set a really high bar for modern beat-em-ups that I think made this game's weaknesses really stand out when compared. While there's still plenty of people that are happy to see a game in this genre play very similar to one that would've come out in the 90s, I personally have had my fill of those more simplistic beat-em-ups and need something with more depth if I'm gonna be paying 35$ for it. I'm a massive fan of Super Sentai and it's American counterpart, Power Rangers, but my love for Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) doesn't mean I can just ignore all the issues I have with this game. On the plus side, the soundtrack is great, and you can listen to it for free online. The presentation is pretty good too, i like the art quite a bit. Unfortunately though, at the end of the day, if the gameplay itself just ain't hittin the mark for me, then I don't see myself picking it up again.
TMNT Shredder's Revenge is a good example to use as a comparison since the controls are basically the same. You have your "standard combo". A "jump launch". A "stomp". That backflip dodge. and an ultimate. Unfortunately, the similarity ends there. All rangers play the same during beat'em ups and only differ in visuals. There is no replay value at all. Because of this, the "strongest ranger" ends up being the Pink Ranger simply because her Zord flies and those SHMUP levels are somewhat balanced around your Zords having to jump to dodge attacks. (Green Ranger's Zord is a good example of a boss with no anti-air abilities. And you can fly.)
This is a game for ranger fans and button mashers. You’ll play once or twice and forget about it. I still play Sor4 today. How do you copy Shredder’s Revenge and make it even more shallow?
