It's been a year and I still come back to see that segment where he gets the bonus and the Accordion Guy comes up. Still my favourite moment of all the GDQ's! 3:01:25
Geez... now that I think about it, Trihex has gone in hard since 2014. Dude is leaner, has muscles, has a hot girlfriend with similar interests, has become a more successful streamer, and has gotten even better and more consistent at this game. I don't know how the fuck he does it, man.
This was the first GDQ I attended live, and all I remember about the fire alarm was everyone flooding into the nearby Wendy’s while Golden was streaming/recording it. Good days, great speedgame.
Great, great, great performance by Tri Hex. Also, this game looks fantastic! The art style combined with a late-release fully optimized title (inc their processing chip) makes this thing kick the shit out of even a Super Mario World.
Ehsan Firouzi It would still look suspicious. A speed runner could easily have failed a part, and then just lied and re-cut the video to a different run. You could splice together two halfs of runs if you wanted to that way, the video would be dismissed by a lot of people at that point
ccdump72 you do have a point! , but they can show the part where the alarm goes off and everybody leaves.... and then show the text afterwards show the part where everybody comes back. there is another option tho. people can stop being a lazy ass and skip it them selves. XD although it could be pretty hard if you are watching from your smartphone.
Wow. This is one of the most impressive speed runs I've ever seen. Looked more like a TSA. Can't imagine remembering the routes for a game like this. So much to do and collect and it requires perfect timings.
I've personally played this game to 100%, and I've watched a few speed runs of it, so I almost passed this one up. But man, I'm glad I watched this. Tri-Hex and company did a great job explaining everything that was going on, and it was a fantastic run.
Reuben Ahmed Nah, there's barely any proper swearing in the Japanese language. A friend of mine studies Japanology and there's barely a more severe insult than "idiot".
Long speedruns like this are events in and of themselves. It's like you're there with them the whole way, affected by risky accomplishments, occasional mistakes, and even a fire alarm. You get to know the guys a little and you can't help feeling a bit sad when the 3 hours are over.
+dertin95 Yup. And at 1:39:30 when he's warming his hands back up before they restart the timer it changes to "Frozen Hands %" So glad these guys have a sense of humor! ^_^
I was at this AGDQ, and everyone flooding into the nearby Wendy’s, as Golden was live streaming the chaos and confused workers, was one of my favorite GDQ memories of that year.
Maybe I am in the minority but I think it would be excellent if GDQ would take 10% of the proceeds for themselves and use it to either fund runners coming out or pay them a bit to do so. I get that that isn't how donations normally work but people don't understand how important it is to have certain people there and that isn't to mention that having the best/most entertaining runners will increase viewers and donations. Carl was extremely important to this run, if you don't believe me go watch Tri-Hex talking about his sgdq run where he did all of the commentating while playing and he had some serious blunders. If you consider that taking 10% of nearly $1 million could pay for travel to ensure that the very best come out and could in turn dramatically boost that amount of total donations, it doesn't sound like a crazy idea.
+Randy “Macho Man” Savage I agree. The skills these guys have, MUST require countless hours to even figure out routes, and hammer out the routine and skills to execute consecutively. Communication and forums seem to go a long way, but again, a lot of hours are understandably put into doing speedruns, especially 100% runs, I feel. Because in terms of Metroidvania glitches and skips, those can be read about. 100% a game like Yoshi's Island, or DKC games, etc... Many levels, and many routes, and finding the fastest routes... It's insane. I actually thought these guys were getting paid somewhere for doing this. This is all of the runners' free time.
***** I'm sure they love doing it for free but these guys don't all have $500-$1000 at any given time to spend flying out to the spot and doing this. Like I said, the best runs make a shit ton of money. Tri-hex and Carl here brought in somewhere near $5,000, so if you took some of that money to ensure that guys like Tri, Carl, Kosmo, etc come out, you will be very successful. Or even better yet if you could get a cash incentive to bring Siglemic out of his hiatus with M64
+Randy “Macho Man” Savage Actually, a lot of the proceeds from charitable events are split up to make the event more profitable. it's a wise business move and allows those doing the work the ability to focus on the event instead of splitting their focus between the event and their job. Some places are criticized for doing that with donations, but it sure is a wise business move.
That girl in the background is so expressive. I love her facial reactions a few seconds after 1:19:19. And her reaction during this whole awesome ordeal at 2:17:17.
Shoutout to Yoshi's Island bosses: 1. Raphael the Raven, for giving my cousin vertigo. 2. Tap Tap the Red Nose, for gameplay mechanics. 3. Marching Milde, for best name.
There are some intense moments in many speedruns this year, but this was the most fun and intense of the feature-length runs in my book. A great watch from start to finish! (The middle part just happened to be, uh, better than expected. Guess someone reported that controller smoking!)
Just noticed that while skimming over the search bar, seeing the plushy disappear and tracking down where it went. Why would anyone go back after 5 minutest? o.O
his is my fave title from the super NES. iv played through it like 100 times and am actually currently playing through again.. i thought i was good but god damn this man has got mad skill! so many epic egg shots n other crazy bullshit.. Peace! :)
You know that episode of Futurama where Fry swaps his hands with the Robot Devil? The Robot Devil should have gone to Tri Hex for an upgrade after that.
We've been watching 2 different events, GDQ nowadays is filled with small no-name creators that barely upload/stream anything. From what I've noticed, they aren't bringing big talent on anymore, most of the OG folk are retired from speedrunning or just don't come anymore.
The first stage music always makes me sing "total eclipse of the heeaart" at a certain part. If you've heard it, you know exactly what part I'm talking about.
2:40:20 the guy in the far right starts to clap but realizes no one else is clapping and starts playing with his hands as if that’s what he was doing in the first place 😂
This has to be one of the most difficult looking speedruns I've seen.

Yoshi's Island was a criminally underrated game. This is a great run.
That game was even better than SMW 1
DanTrax Nah, SMW is a classic.
Brian Nichols
This game is a better classic.
MissingnoTheGreat
All these opinions...
It sold +4 million copies. I'm sure it's rated well :-)
It's been a year and I still come back to see that segment where he gets the bonus and the Accordion Guy comes up. Still my favourite moment of all the GDQ's! 3:01:25
+Detonexploder haha i did the same, thanks for the time
what was that for? LOL
+COMBATACE1 he just plays the music that comes when you are playing bonus. pretty funny though
This speed run honestly drives home just how incredibly well made the core Mario titles are.
David Carper Mario 64 says hello
Yes, Mario 64 is one of those core Mario titles -_-
David Carper It is, check the wiki. Yoshi games however aren't.
I don't care what a wiki says. It's Super Mario World 2, therefore it's a core Mario product.
David Carper And Super Mario 64 isn't? Your logic doesn't add up nor is it consistent.
Geez... now that I think about it, Trihex has gone in hard since 2014. Dude is leaner, has muscles, has a hot girlfriend with similar interests, has become a more successful streamer, and has gotten even better and more consistent at this game. I don't know how the fuck he does it, man.
me too! XD
This guy is 100% beast.
Most if not all the people in that room are speed runners too I believe

That moment at 3:02:00 was so Beautiful.
His fingers went so fast he started a fire in the building.
Why isn't this the top comment?
been replaying this on my switch lately. probably one of the best mario games ever made
This was the first GDQ I attended live, and all I remember about the fire alarm was everyone flooding into the nearby Wendy’s while Golden was streaming/recording it. Good days, great speedgame.
This guy's fingers are so fast it scared Mike Tyson into retirement
Oh my god, look at his fingers go... He's either a robot, or this is the Matrix.
Or he is just a TriHard Kappa
Referring to Tri-Hex or accordion man at 3:01:50?
Mach3Maelstrom Tri-Hex, but accordion man was awesome too.
*****
The luscious mustache of the accordion player kinda suggests you're wrong.
*****
"You can't prove it must be X, therefore it must be Y!"
ok, kid.
As beautiful as most Mario game speedruns look, I think this will always be in my eyes the most gorgeous speedrun
This game is still so current. The music, presentation and art design are my favourite ever. Don't think it's ever been bettered!
Don't let the run time/video length fool you, this is incredible! That controller cam was a nice touch, by the way.
There are so many moments in this speedrun that just make my heart skip beats man omg
Great, great, great performance by Tri Hex. Also, this game looks fantastic! The art style combined with a late-release fully optimized title (inc their processing chip) makes this thing kick the shit out of even a Super Mario World.
He beat a game I worked on my entire childhood in just less than 3 hours. What a beast
One of the all-time greatest GDQ runs
Epic Fire Drill strats.
maybe it would have been a good idea if they would have edited that segment out.
Ehsan Firouzi Might have looked suspicious then
ccdump72 or they could have explained in a text that this part was is being cut for this reason.
Ehsan Firouzi It would still look suspicious. A speed runner could easily have failed a part, and then just lied and re-cut the video to a different run. You could splice together two halfs of runs if you wanted to that way, the video would be dismissed by a lot of people at that point

there is another option tho. people can stop being a lazy ass and skip it them selves. XD although it could be pretty hard if you are watching from your smartphone.
Tri hex was the first speed runner I have seen and made me fall in love with this sport. Great job.
You should watch 'Carl Sagan's' run of the same game, but in 2013, that got me into this =D
Wow. This is one of the most impressive speed runs I've ever seen. Looked more like a TSA. Can't imagine remembering the routes for a game like this. So much to do and collect and it requires perfect timings.
This run had everything. Best run i`ve seen so far. Gameplay, storytelling, joke-o-meter. Frame perfect.
Kept Tri-Hex catching the building on fire. The hypest gameplay on UA-cam.
His hands are too hot for the fire alarms
I never get tired of watching tri hex run this game
One of my favorite games but just listening to how brutal speedrunning this game is give me much respect for those that do.
I've personally played this game to 100%, and I've watched a few speed runs of it, so I almost passed this one up. But man, I'm glad I watched this. Tri-Hex and company did a great job explaining everything that was going on, and it was a fantastic run.
1:17:16
Fun fact, while in the English version Kamek says "Oh my!" the Japanese version he says something more akin to "You son of a bitch!"
"チクショ" can also mean "damn it" or "for Christ's sake".
Reuben Ahmed Nah, there's barely any proper swearing in the Japanese language.
A friend of mine studies Japanology and there's barely a more severe insult than "idiot".
Taxtro Depending on where you are, though, the one of the two main words for idiot is considered *pretty* offensive though.

+Commando that timing is impeccable, right at the end of a stage too!
+James Sinn did you also see thast the 100% thing turn into "taco bell %" at about 1:36:50
+dertin95 Yup. And at 1:39:30 when he's warming his hands back up before they restart the timer it changes to "Frozen Hands %" So glad these guys have a sense of humor! ^_^
I was at this AGDQ, and everyone flooding into the nearby Wendy’s, as Golden was live streaming the chaos and confused workers, was one of my favorite GDQ memories of that year.
haha so much love for pausing the run for the fire alarm! very lucky to get that at the end of the level haha
Is this the new Fire Alarm% category I've been hearing about?
I remember this video for being the one video that introduced me to speed running years ago.
I love speed runs, cuz you can see the true potential for each character. Go Yoshi!
Yooo Dude looks like a baby in this footage! Also Carl Sagan on the couch? this is legendary
Thumbs up for the guy with the "accordion". I slow clapped that
I really like when the runner or someone on the couch explains whats happening.
Holy crap this guy is insane! There would be so many steps and movements to memorize in just one level, let alone all 70!!! =0
David Grange 48* I think

I agree 100%. I actually just watched his SGDQ run and it felt really devoid without Carl/a co-commentator. I couldn't even finish it.
I don't agree on the percentage but i agree non profit/=/ no money going to the organazitation
I need more of the Carl and Trihex combo, i love it

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - FireAlarm%
To whoever changed the 100% to Fire Alarm%, you are hilarious! I enjoyed all of the other things you changed the 100% to!
Taco Bell % is the best part
One of my favourite games and one of my favourite runs. Brilliant all around!
Shoutout to Yoshi's Island bosses:
1. Raphael the Raven, for giving my cousin vertigo.
2. Tap Tap the Red Nose, for gameplay mechanics.
3. Marching Milde, for best name.
the video is awesome , but the high pitch tone ( I took audacity out to measure that it is at at about 15,7 khz) is giving me ear cancer
JL2579 Hey, JL, didn't really expect to see you here! :P
Lol I thought they were trying to PREVENT cancer.😄
This was my favorite game on the SNES as a kid in he 90s. I believe it’s the first game I ever actually beat. I was probably about 7 or 8.
For those not in the know, and to educate a few people, the cat is called a Felyne. It is from the Monster Hunter franchise. Go play it, it is fun.
I love Felynes! But they have eyes that pierce your soul...
I've gotta watch these marathons live someday.
They only happen twice a year, for a week at a time. Check out the official site for dates. SGDQ2014 is coming.
Next chance is Summer games done quick or SGDQ in June
I used to go to events like this all the time about 7 years ago. I used to compete. There is a local one on every month I still go to watch.
Yay,you didn't cut out the firealarm #SaveDatCat
There are some intense moments in many speedruns this year, but this was the most fun and intense of the feature-length runs in my book. A great watch from start to finish! (The middle part just happened to be, uh, better than expected. Guess someone reported that controller smoking!)
1:35:15 is when they come back in
lmao
Still one of my favorite games.
The fashion statement at these events is impressive, ill have to underdress if i go this year
1:28:02
Just noticed that while skimming over the search bar, seeing the plushy disappear and tracking down where it went.

One of the best runs this year.
i kno playing videos games like this gets u nowhere in life but this is amazing nbs
There are thousands of people out there making a living off of playing video games. You're the nb.
Fuck you Lost King
his is my fave title from the super NES. iv played through it like 100 times and am actually currently playing through again.. i thought i was good but god damn this man has got mad skill! so many epic egg shots n other crazy bullshit.. I loved this vid with being able to see the controller cam.. never seen any1 use a conlroller quite like that! and the guy telling info about the game n whats going on was good, i mean i didnt know u could avoid bonus games by spitting eggs or whatever that was at the start. a very awesome watch and after seeing a few different games i love being speed run.. i didnt think i could be better at it but seems i can deffinatly be.. may just have to start speed running for fun! Peace! :)
The accordion was well worth the bonus stage... Could not have asked for anything better.
i never get tired of this run
mad love for that $1000 donation!
Even at marathon, Trihex can't finish a run with no inturruptions.
You know that episode of Futurama where Fry swaps his hands with the Robot Devil? The Robot Devil should have gone to Tri Hex for an upgrade after that.
Couch back then was filled with some real hardcore gamers, nowadays it’s all streamers with the most followers
We've been watching 2 different events, GDQ nowadays is filled with small no-name creators that barely upload/stream anything. From what I've noticed, they aren't bringing big talent on anymore, most of the OG folk are retired from speedrunning or just don't come anymore.
Carl's run from AGDQ 2013 was also damn great, as was the any% race from AGDQ 2015... If you haven't seen those, I'd very much recommend them.
1:21:26 - 1:35:13 are the most enthralling moments of this speedrun.
2:17:02
The German donation wasn't even badly read in the beginning for an americlap, good job Mr. nnouncer
I always wondered why the fire alarm went off, to know it was none other than Clint Stevens smoking weed in the bathrooms makes this really funny.
Im from Spain and you dude are my favorite runner, your amazing with the controler!
Why can I not fucking like this 50 times? This run is so fucking amazing.
it looks like the guy is playing melee on a super nintendo
with a claw grip
Travis Durrans you play claw with melee sometimes
+General Bacon I know, that's why I said it :)
lol I thought I'd be the only melee player here
first time that the guy talking in the background is sympatic and loved :D
Can 1:28:00 be on the highlight reel? (if it hasn't been made already)
The guy reading donation has such bass in his voice that I shit my pants every time he speaks.
Nice commentary, wish more speed runs had it.
Missing that one bonus was totally worth the accordion playing
the Glitched% was the best XDD i almost starting to cry by laughing to hard
I can't get over how fast his fingers are moving. Like god damn, how haven't those things fallen off by the end of the run?
I wish somebody had the chat when the guy saved the cat.
incomplete Trihex run agdq '14 w/ chat There ya go.
SAVE THE ANIMALS
The first stage music always makes me sing "total eclipse of the heeaart" at a certain part. If you've heard it, you know exactly what part I'm talking about.
His fingers make him look like he might as well play Through The Fire And Flames on Expert lol
This is absolutely amazing....incredible!!!
2:40:20 the guy in the far right starts to clap but realizes no one else is clapping and starts playing with his hands as if that’s what he was doing in the first place 😂
Lol I fast forwarded and the room was completely empty lol; those fire alarms tho
I love how the castle soundtrack sounds like a minor key version of OoT's Song of Storms.
TRI-HEX gots those hands to freak a dog out-Richard Pryor talking
