I really don't know how many times I've watched this video, but I keep coming back for more everytime, Link to the Past is one of my all time favourite games, and even with the new AAA titles like GTA V, there isn't any way they can take my love from this game. Kudos to Andy, Solidus and many other speed runners on doing this run and keeping my love for this game alive
Solidus was actually quite better, at the last boss before Ganon's tower he held back on the second head. And in the Ganon's tower, the Swamp etc he steam rolled over Andy, pretty sure he was holding back.
It looked like he was holding back on Trinexx (last boss before GT) because he did not switch to the Fire Rod before killing the fire head. While the death animation of one of the heads goes off, you can't open your item menu. Andy switched to the Fire Rod right before killing the fire head, so he was immediately able to go to work on the ice head. I guess it is possible that not switching items was on purpose in the first place though.
Amazing race, very enthralling till the end. It was very close and most of the time head to head, I like those exciting runs. Congratulations to Solidus for the win and to both for the great performance.
OMGs lookit young Andy! No idea of the glorious future to come of being tormented by Crowd Control Randomizers, LOL. Thank you UA for making & keeping these videos available for all to enjoy, you're the hero of SDA.
I spent half an hour doing the bomb jump to the magic hammer and only managed it three times. If you weren't impressed I suggest you guys try it for yourself, its quite challenging.
To be honest, I never saw the area at the thirteen minute mark of the video. I aways do the save and quit ob in this game. I find it to be realy fun, just from watching this I have learned a few tricks to get some extra time taken out of my run, which is slow for how I do it.
This run was insane. There may have been an overall winner but imo it was roughly a draw. They were both in alignment so much it was kind of fucked up to witness. Good for them honestly.
Shouldn't they have the same character length for the names they choose, since it'll take less time for a shorter name to be written in the dialogue parts?
During this marathon events, filenames are usually donation goals. The name (names in this case) that get the most donations will be the filename. But yes, shorter name does save a little bit of time.
This is really cool. Back in the day I used to use a ton of these tricks. I never knew anything about speed runs then. That being said, I've not seen many many things they're doing here. Lol
SPOILERS: Dude fucking dies, and still wins a come-from-behind victory. My effing hero. I was rooting for him too, the whole time, and didn't think he'd pull it out, but he did.
Dunno bout the rest of the people here but uploading this series in the same order they were played (i.e. Jak and Daxter followed by game #2, then #3 etc.) would make more structural sense?
Yea, that would make more sense, but you have to realize they have to upload ALL of AGDQ 14. So that's hundreds of hours they need to upload, separating the games and releasing them would be more work. They should have just ordered them at the event.
Okay seriously, I have to ask this question. Are there two ALTTP speed runners with the name of "Andy"? I'm asking because I've taken a look at the other AGDQ speed runs with "Andy," and it doesn't look like, nor sound like the same guy.
God that would be awesome. Finished the whole game no cheat 100 % and boy did I take my time, can't imagine someone speed running it and not giving a fuck about the damn mazes and the overall difficulty.
as far as i can tell, you do a little bit of damage when you hit him, and they spin right when he starts to teleport so he doesnt stay there stunned, and they can set up the next spin
So apparently during AGDQ 2013, some people who had been watching/donating since the start of the stream were visiting the donation page so much it caused a 502 ERROR, which in turn caused them to be known as the 502 crew. (I think anyway).
yes, but my english is too bad i guess. and because it's spoken i can't translate it. for me it sounds like, they disappear cuz i go up.... O.o or something nonsence like that
This was a "No Save and Quit", as explained at 9:15. So they could not have done that after picking up the Master Sword as that would be violating that rule.
Danny Mauk Easy to do. They quickly brushed through the "No Save and Quit, No Out-of-Bounds" rule that I had to go back to and double-check for myself.
The similarity between the two runs is a testament to how precise their skills and strategies are.
***** agree
Well put
+Inkshooter I no rite. Can't beleive they were so close
That on top of being several seconds behind Andy and the beating him for several seconds afterwards.
It's amazing how close these guys were the *entire game*.
yeah that was amazing. just shows how perfect these guys are at the game.
unnamednewbie13 more amazing when you remember that Solidus died at one of the bosses.
***** I never said which, so you're still on pins and needles
I really don't know how many times I've watched this video, but I keep coming back for more everytime, Link to the Past is one of my all time favourite games, and even with the new AAA titles like GTA V, there isn't any way they can take my love from this game. probably the most amzing thing about this is just how they were tied damn near to the pixel the hole time. amazing race.
Solidus was actually quite better, at the last boss before Ganon's tower he held back on the second head.

the best race of all SDA races, they were neck and neck the whole time.
***** I'd say the Metroid run was better. They finished 1/2 a second apart and 3rd place came in under 5 seconds after that. Very neck and neck race.
My vote is for Chelney and Almonds MM4 race.
I like how they've always got one guy on the couch trying to explain things without a microphone.
Holy Crap!! I am so inspired by the way these guys were so close! This is one of the craziest video game moment's I have ever seen.
Race starts at 6:32
Chris Fish thanks
Thanks bro
This is one of my all time favourite games, and both these guys are absolute pros at it. A joy to watch.
Morpheus: What if I told you... you can open wall cracks by dashing into them?
Mind = Blown
Not every cracked wall though. There are 2 different kinds. :)
I never knew this as a kid, even though i was a die-hard ALttP nerd.
Ethan Jones Neither did I. and I thought I knew everything about this game lol
When I saw that, I was like, "Hold up!" 😂
Who doesn't know that 😂
Amazing race, very enthralling till the end. It was very close and most of the time head to head, I like those exciting runs. Congratulations to Solidus for the win and to both for the great performance.
That was a great race, back and forth till the end. :)
That went back and forth like crazy. I never thought there would be that many lead changes.
great video, great run, great game!
my favorite console game ever! I'm so proud that I finished this game :)
Oh boy, I can't wait for the Super Metroid race.. it was sick live.
This, the Super Metroid race and the Goldeneye co-op run were my favourites of AGDQ 2014.
Solidus got one death and still won while Andy had deathless. What a run.
Awesome race, with suspense too.
Thanks AGDQ!
YES! This is exactly what I wanted to see! Thanks!
Solidus's channel: www.twitch.tv/sol1dus
TY!
OMGs lookit young Andy! No idea of the glorious future to come of being tormented by Crowd Control Randomizers, LOL. Thank you UA for making & keeping these videos available for all to enjoy, you're the hero of SDA.
Pause balls, by going upstairs
Pause balls, by going downstairs
That's the best strategy in the game!
Gonna go up stairs and pause balls~ ♥
I is so trippy watching both screens at the same time
I wish i could've been part of this when it happened i couldve done great I've been playing zelda 1 2 and alttp plus a lot more since I was 3 or 4
best sound track ever!
what a game.
If King Zora is willing to discuss selling flippers why doesn't he tell the other Zoras to stop shooting fireballs at you???
Very close race!
I saw these guys racing with Pcull44444 on a stream a while back, they're really good.
His twitch name is sol1dus!
www.twitch.tv/sol1dus
Sephiko what are you doing here
Jolpengammler
I was just going to ask the same thing about you Jolpe... all this thread needs is Iso >_
50:51
"Believe in yourself"
~blackdog420
I have no idea why I found this hilarious, lol
Pretty close for such a long game, fun to watch.
you didn´t let us see the messages "TOTAL GAMES PLAYED: 000(ZERO)"
its kinda crazy how close they were over an hour and a half!
STARTS AT 6:35!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No one else posted the comment. You're welcome.
Check the description!!!!!!!1!
its in the annotations
Andy is using S-Video or a component modded SNES - Solidus is obviously using Composite.
Or it is just the video output settings on the two capture cards they use.
59:29 "Ice Palace is one of the shortest dungeons in the game..."
SHORTEST!? _Ffffffffff_
SchwaWarrior It's short because of the bomb jump skip...
SchwaWarrior "...compared to casually, where it's probably one of the longest..."
YAY a race =D
I loved that game !!! But if i was a kid, i needed about weeks to play it till the end :D
The sync is strong with this run :P
I spent half an hour doing the bomb jump to the magic hammer and only managed it three times. If you weren't impressed I suggest you guys try it for yourself, its quite challenging.
love that games music....damn
nice run
Man... this is puuure FUN!
I was gonna say where is the other guy but he's on the right edge of the screen.. Great run
Still my favorite Zelda game of all time. Once I finish A LInk Between Worlds I am going to have to fire up the SNES and play this one again.
Was hoping they had this
44:40
Gotta go fast.
To be honest, I never saw the area at the thirteen minute mark of the video. I aways do the save and quit ob in this game. I find it to be realy fun, just from watching this I have learned a few tricks to get some extra time taken out of my run, which is slow for how I do it.
this want me to play my childhood
1:22:13 Wow, a donation comment inside joke I actually got :'D

Gotcha - thanks for the info!
took me 8 years and a youtube video to learn there were apples in a link to the past....
I didn't even know unlit I played ALBW, Two years ago.
holy shit. it tooks me hours when i was a really young child...
Where can i find a schedule for Twitch weekends / evnings / runs? I may not be a rich viewer but i sure do enjoy watching!
Crazy how in lock-step they are.
This is really cool. Back in the day I used to use a ton of these tricks. I never knew anything about speed runs then. That being said, I've not seen many many things they're doing here. Lol
Nice job guys
A Link to the Past, posiblemente el mejor Zelda.
5- TWW
4- OoT
3- TP
2-SS
1- ALttP
how do you do the trick where you dash through a locked door without bouncing off it.
I'm seeing double!
For a reason I don't know, I always one the one on the right to win. So was abit touch and go for a while but he pulled through
That was incredible...
amazing run(s)
you probably can't see me in the back.... so blurry...
at 1:08:00 why do they take the time to switch from the hookshot before the boss' final stage? i know its on purpose so how does it save time?
1:06:50 RNGesus, why
Can we see Cyghfer vs Jadin? I'll donate to that!
1:35:00 - [Claps Loudly] VERY GOOD!
Badass 2 cycle at 24:00 !
did you know guys before you go to final boss you can upgrade your sword to yellow (strongest)
yeah but thats slower
it is slower to do that, but yes you can
I know i'm late but._..this. is. awesome.

49:55 Pcull's donation.
you can finish the game under 5 minutes with the glitch you can do in hyrule castle
Yes, but that is a different kind of run. They showed that off in 2012 agdq or sgdq, one of those.
Never played on SNES, only GBA and emulators. However; I can see how the SNES version would make the bastard Ice Palace so much simpler
You know, I used to be worried for Andy. Then, Lanomas happened.
love it
Is it just me, or is the right screen ever so slightly darker than the left?
1 week and i am the first to make a comment: who cares?
Lukers Silverhaze Just pointing it out, bruv.
It didn't bother me till I read your comment.... Now I see it :(
Left Screen: 1CHIP SNES
Right Screen: 2PPU SNES
Voultar do you have any real basis to state this? O merely speculation based on the textures and colors?
Okay seriously, I have to ask this question. Are there two ALTTP speed runners with the name of "Andy"?
I'm asking because I've taken a look at the other AGDQ speed runs with "Andy," and it doesn't look like, nor sound like the same guy.
Please do a run of the romhack parallel worlds.
God that would be awesome. Finished the whole game no cheat 100 % and boy did I take my time, can't imagine someone speed running it and not giving a fuck about the damn mazes and the overall difficulty.
Not going to happen. They tried a romhack last sgdq it did not do to well, so probably no more rom hacks.
i love the bomb glitch x)
what does RNG mean?
Stands for Random Number Generator, luckbased stuff.
***** i have been wondering for a while of watching... what does rng mean?
RNG
Random Number Generator
ok thanks
Huh, you can kill Ganon without the silver arrows? What's the trick there? I thought he would turn icy-coloured if you hit him..
as far as i can tell, you do a little bit of damage when you hit him, and they spin right when he starts to teleport so he doesnt stay there stunned, and they can set up the next spin
59:02 Must resist urge to make joke!
I've completed this by using the save + quit wall glitch.
Yes, but that is a different kind of run. They showed that off in 2012 agdq or sgdq, one of those.
Okay, I don't understand.
What the hell is this 502 Crew I keep hearing about?
So apparently during AGDQ 2013, some people who had been watching/donating since the start of the stream were visiting the donation page so much it caused a 502 ERROR, which in turn caused them to be known as the 502 crew. (I think anyway).
Bradley Mellor
Oh okay. Thank you!!
So we just gon ignore the donation of $12,345. Holy fucking shit
Maybe it was $123.45? Otherwise they should have made more of a fuss over that for sure.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
id love to be able to donate one day.
i will always root for Andy
1:06:00 RNG GOD!
1:04:04
how the block disapears? by standing beside it while pushing??? wtf?
and why they dont get damage/got hit so many times. e.g. 1:14:00
yes, but my english is too bad i guess.
and because it's spoken i can't translate it.
for me it sounds like, they disappear cuz i go up.... O.o or something nonsence like that
thanks Glen, know i am smarter :D
DO A 4 RUN FOR THE ADVENTURE IF LINK PLEASE
You should speed run megaman 1 again.
Death Mountain really killed Andy's focus. You know where.
After getting the master sword why not save and quit then start at links house
This was a "No Save and Quit", as explained at 9:15. So they could not have done that after picking up the Master Sword as that would be violating that rule.
Must have missed it thanks
Danny Mauk Easy to do. They quickly brushed through the "No Save and Quit, No Out-of-Bounds" rule that I had to go back to and double-check for myself.
IIDX GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD!
(that's what it says)
when iam see how they play i feel like the biggest noob , but i plyed this game when i was 5 or 6 so i think thats ok :'DDD
53 seconds slower than winner:)
90 minutes to finish the game O_o
Sam Lee Pretty standard for that game.
Why the Japanese version?
+Igirisu Shinshi Faster text usually
Faster text, and the japanese 1.0 original version has specific glitches/bugs that are often used for speedrunning
