I've been using Phillips Respironics machines for over 10 years now, and all of them were listed as recalled.
Thank you for the information. Phillips Respironics should be put put of business, they do not deserve a 2nd chance because of this negligence. Someone is responsible and should be jailed for intentionally covering up the information regarding the toxic emissions by the foam.

Exactly. I have had the Philips dream station which is also listed as recalled and I just found out today also finding out that this recall WAS IN APRIL. My sleep doctor sold me the machine and didn't even warn me about this. I had no idea this was going on. I'm so so stressed right now. This should never happen, how could someone cover this up??? This is 2 million people in America alone, I'm so mad right now.

Apparently a ton of companies should be put out of business by your reasoning. Ford determined in the 1970's that it would be cheaper to absorb the cost of lawsuits for the deaths caused by Pintos blowing up than it would be to do a recall on them. How many deaths were caused by faulty Toyota brakes? Don't get me started on all the E.coli recalls from spinach farms.
Those were just off the top of my head. I'm sure some research would turn up more gruesome and outrage worthy recalls.

Just confirmed my Philips CPAP is part of the recall due to the toxic foam. I used it for 5 years and have experienced a deep cough ever since, watery eyes, damaged throat and voice from chronic deep cough. Dozens of trips to doctor, ENT surgery, pulmonologist. No one knew why until this came out. Thank you for making this information public. It looks like a class action lawsuit is going to be necessary. Please add me if one is underway.

In a little over a year I've discovered I have severe obstructive sleep apnea, started therapy with a Philips Dreamstation, found out about a serious recall, spent three months contemplating the fact that a condition I didn't know I had 6 months ago was still significantly more likely to kill me if I stopped treatment then anything that could be caused by the Philips recall, and today I received a Resmed replacement simply because I was in the right place at the right time. All in all I feel deeply blessed to be doing as well as I am.

Thank you for your most useful video. Philips is showing it’s clients what an unethical company it is. The do deserve to be punished for potentially destroying the health of people who have trusted them, and the pocket is what hurts them most. Some executives seem to deserve action against them in the International Court.

I am a military veteran in the US and recently was sleep tested and diagnosed and given a resmed airsense machine. I was taken into a room with boxes and boxes of brand new airsense 10 machines and given a new one along with some basic instructions. I am so glad that the Veteran's Administration, where I got the the machine from, had made the decision to go with Resmed. My heart dropped when I learned of this. I worked for medical supply company and we provided thousands of these machines to people. Childrens Hospital only wanted Dreams Stations for all of the kiddos, many who already had multiple health issues. I can remember countless times, people complaining of headaches, sore throats and sometimes breathing problems as if they got sick after their first night or week of usage. Yea, I did the same thing just the other day. I've already seen too many family members lost to cancer and I don't need to be breathing in anything to increase that risk for myself. I also scare the crap out of my partner when I stop breathing in the middle of the night, so there's not much option outside of throwing down hundreds of dollars from my own pocket to get a replacement. I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford this, but my heart goes out to the others out there who don't have the ability to do this. =/

      Same here,
I truly feel guilty knowing there's going to be a lot of people with real CPAP issues affected by this not just Philips users. I see this will create shortage of units across the board. From what I'm seeing there will be a long, long wait for Philips to get their act together, apologies too all those who haven't taken action to get out in front early.
I can see this crippling Philips when it comes to the fiscal/legal repercussions, not ready to do anything with my old DreamStation (I'm definitely not giving it back to Philips for a quick FIX). Sadly I believe Philips may owe a great deal more than the $$$ I've invested in their HEALTH SOLUTION, but if they didn't poison US they wouldn't be at risk.
Yes I also believe the philips product was better as good as the ResMed AirSense 10, which I bought, and I do miss it.
      thanks Nick,
      Good luck all.

@@seawoods8886 - as I mentioned in an earlier post, the medical profession is dealing with this in a triage manner. You're more likely to die of untreated sleep apnea than you are from the continued use of the Dreamstation device. That's what they're telling you. What they should also have said is that if you can afford it, to replace the machine with a new CPAP as that's the best option. Sadly, not everyone can afford to do so. And even more importantly, if you're using an ozone generator for sterilizing your equipment, stop that immediately as it expedites the deterioration of the seals and foam in the devices. I've got a $300 SoClean that I plan to take out in the countryside and blast with a shotgun.

I have been using the Philips CPAP for a year. Two weeks after starting to use it, I started having respiratory discomfort. I consulted with some specialists and asked if it was due to the CPAP use and they told me that it had nothing to do with it. They told me that it was an environmental allergy.
I started treatments and it did not improve.
I had very serious breathing crises. I felt desperate. A few weeks ago I saw your video I decided to remove the insulation, which was already quite deteriorated I must tell you that I have improved significantly. I have not had respiratory crises again. The whistling sound that was heard. in my lungs it has almost disappeared. I have not applied medication again to free my airways because, as I told you, I have no longer had any crisis. If it had not happened to me, I would not believe it after so many doctors and so much medication and it was just question of removing a simple insulator, how much irresponsibility of these companies we trust and in them and we end up worse than when we started I am very grateful your publication
has changed my life, my most sincere thanks.

Thank you for continuing to provide valuable information to users like me. It is a genuine public service with the highest level of professionalism and veracity. The off-gassing of spray foam has been an established fact for many years and has been debated at length with regard to home insulation. Formaldehyde off-gassing was also an issue with other home-building products. Philips should have known about this while designing the CPAP. The off-gassing should have been a part of the FDA approval process. In essence, this is a gas chamber that we have voluntarily purchased at a high cost. What is the guarantee that the new foam does not have the same properties? I wonder how this device went through approvals. It reeks of misinformation from the start.

I saw a post on a forum from awhile back (long before this info was made public) that said to prepare for a dreamstation recall. They said they worked for a distributer and Philips was pushing the dreamstation 2 hard, trying to replace all stock with it and that they’d never seen anything like it before.
That post, along with reviews I’ve seen of the Dreamstation 2 makes me think they’ve known about the issue for awhile and have kept it hush hush. It looks like they rushed the Dreamstation 2 and that’s why it’s so meh. It’s just my conspiracy theory lol but if it’s true it’s sooo messed up.

I just found out about this and what makes me livid is no one called me. Literally nobody called me, emailed me, I’ve been working nonstop the past two weeks so naturally I’m not watching news. I only found out about this because when I called my pharmacy to get a new hose they mentioned the recall in their voicemail. I had to find out about this from a voice message I might not of heard it my hose didn’t need replacing. I can’t get a hold of anybody on the phone and the website is not responding when I try to register my device, and I have severe apnea. Anger doesn’t begin to cover it.

Unless or until this testing is conducted, you and they don’t know for sure if you may have been breathing in dangerous VOC’s. Don’t loose chain of custody with your machine by returning it.

Finally his Cardiologist said STOP USING IT. Tell your pulmonologist to put you on something else.

I have been very displeased with Phillips with all of this and am planning on moving away from the dream stations. Just some ideas: I would love to see some comparisons of options that are out there and also some coverage of the online stores that sell cpaps, though I know the latter varies by country and may be outside where you want to go. I really appreciate what you are doing here. I am both a user and a behavioral Sleep medicine provider (PhD clinical psychologist) and have found your info helpful both personally and professionally. At the very least this event will be helpful in getting me more up-to-speed on the non-Phillips offerings!

Hi there, amazing comment and i hear you 100%. It's a tricky one and i hope you understand. I really want my viewers to feel like this is an honest channel that truely reflects my own personal views and those of the viewers. Although i have certain products which i prefer i do try and come across as fairly neutral and just provide the specifications, features and feedback from the everyday customers like yourself. There's always a level of bias on every 'review' site and there is in this one too but it's well balanced and there's enough transparency for those who care to look. Best wishes and thanks for your insights. Nick :-)

incredible... i called Philips when i received the recall email a year ago and was told "not to worry, your machine isn't affected and that its only causing headaches" i have continued using it until today when i went to pick up some new filters and was explained in detail of the issues... i have since found out that my machine is one that has been recalled (was told it wasnt a year ago) kind of freaked out now.. very informative video thank you.

Oh Man! I was one of those "I don't see any particles, I don't use Ozone cleaners etc." people, but I see now that I need to think long and hard about my future therapy. I too have been recently diagnosed with respiratory issues and I may now have an explanation where they originated from.
I do wonder though if the foam used by other CPAP machine manufacturers has similar problems. The new foam in the DS2 looks like an entirely different composition - it looks like it might to break down over time sending little white particles into the air-stream. Perhaps Philips need to re-design the casing so that it is easily opened and the foam easily replaced.

    • @erdogane.8045
      @erdogane.8045 3 роки тому

That's what I was thinking about, the new white foam is not durable at all... what if it breaks down in a few year's time? Will Philips issue some sort of 'time to change the foam' deadline when they replace the old casings ? 🤔

I replaced my Phillips machine a few months ago, thankfully with a different brand. Nothing to do with this issue; it was just time to replace it. During the time I was using it I developed progressively worsening breathing problems and was diagnosed with COPD. I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life. Since replacement my breathing has dramatically improved. I didn’t make any connection until now.

I use the DreamStation as a patient with sleep apnea. Went to my annual appointment with the sleep center, the nurse practitioner asked me if I used "So Clean" with my unit. I don't, and said so. Apparently the "So Clean" devices weren't on the market at the time the DreamStations were designed and distributed. It's my understanding that the "So Clean" procedure does something to the foam inside the Dream Station. They asked me if I was getting black particles from the disintegrating foam. I said No. They advised me to avoid using the "So Clean" product, continue using it like normal, and get back to them if anything was wrong.

    • @CPAPReviews
      @CPAPReviews  2 роки тому +2

Hi there, unfortunately the information you have been provided with is somewhat incorrect. Although the SoClean and other sterilizing devices that use ozone can increase the rate of degradation, lab analysis also shows heat and humidity also cause it and there's many thousands of people who have never used a SoClean that have experienced issues. On top this, regardless of the foam degradation, lab analysis also shows that from the very first day the foam 'off gases' toxic chemicals outside the 'safe range'. There's a lot of misinformation out there. Good luck

Thanks for this! In reading the comments, it's just scary to see how many of us have mystery symptoms. For the last 9 months I've been suffering with health issues that three doctors so far have not been able to find the cause of. Two more specialists scheduled in the coming month. (Sinus issues, congestion, excessive thick, sticky mucus in throat, frequent headaches, occasional coughing, dizziness, fatigue. I've also had idiopathic chronic hives for 2 years, and I can't help but wonder if that's related as well.)
I only found out about this because the place I bought my machine sent me a notice - My pulmonologist has provided no information, and when calling he told me I have no choice but to keep using the machine as my apnea is severe (Unless I want to purchase a new machine out of pocket right now, which I cannot.) My husband had an old RemStar machine that's *supposedly* not affected by the recall, so I've been using that for the last month or so. No issues with dizziness anymore, and I've been coughing less at night. The other issues haven't ceased, unfortunately.

From Canada: My RRT said to not worry about it. What concerns me is that Philips doesn't say 'stop using your machine'. Here their emails (forwarded from RRT) say 'consult your doctor' or some such. Well, like many Canadians I don't have a primary care physician. And to even get a referral to see a sleep specialist, then wait in queue for one's appointment, it typically takes 3-6 weeks to see the doctor, then another 3-4months to see the specialist. I moved provinces and am in the slow process of finding an MD taking new patients, at least one who isn't fresh out of medical school/'off the boat'.
I called Philips a month or so after registering and asked whether they received my online form. They have, but they are waiting for Canada's FDA to make a decision on what they have to do to correct the weakness of the machine.
So, we are in the dark. Stop using, continue using, modify, what? I don't understand why Philips isn't just sending everyone a replacement. Wouldn't that be good will and also reduce the likelihood of them being sued?
