  • When shopping for a new wheel motor for you 400 or 500 series Husqvarna Automower it can be a costly mistake to price shop. The reason for this is that Husqvarna has made several revisions to the wheel motor for the 400 and 500 series Automowers over the past few years and just because you find a Husqvarna OEM wheel motor for a cheaper price than your local Automower dealer is selling it for doesn't mean you are getting the same part that your Automower dealer would be selling you. In this video we show you what to look for when purchasing a replacement wheel motor for a 400 or 500 series Automower. The newest current version of wheel motor for the 400 and 500 series Automowers has an improved gear box, which was the culprit of nearly all wheel motor failures in the 400 and 500 series Automowers over the years. When wheel motors would fail it was due to issues with the gear box such as bearing failure, burnt up grease, and worn gears. Husqvarna wheel motor part number 581621306 solves these issues that were common in previous wheel motor versions, but the part number for all of those old versions supersedes to the current 581621306 part number and this is where people think they are getting a deal on a new wheel motor, but could actually be getting old inventory that will not perform as well. The most important thing to look at when buying a new wheel motor for you Husqvarna 400 or 500 series Automower is the mounting flange on the wheel motor. The part number 581621306 wheel motor has a metal flange and is brownish in color while all of the older versions had a composite flange that was a blackish gray color. If you are unsure you can scratch the surface of the flange and if it is the new version there will be a shiny line where you scratched it because it will be bare metal. If you scratch the older version it will stay the same color. This is something to look for as well when getting your mower back from a dealer after repairs are done. If you turn the mower upside down you can easily see the bottom of the wheel motor flange and will be able to tell if they used the 581621306 wheel motor or not.

    Appreciate the info on the motor update. Very helpful and good to know they have made what appears to be a significant improvement. I did change the grease in mine (which was dry and hard) after it started showing signs of wear at 1600 and making noise at 1600 hours. I do now have to get a replacement but I am at over 4000 hours. Just cleaning and greasing got 2400 more hours out of a worn motor. So the grease absolutely made a difference.

    Replaced the grease on both motors on my 430x, will just keep doing this as I'm not paying for a new motor when I can replace the grease for years with one €5 tube of grease

    Can't say I'm remotely impressed that the first set only ran 4 seasons before failing. My meticulous rebuild, unsurprisingly, did not buy me much at all.
    I hope the new motor lasts many more seasons. I purchased through you guys to be sure.
    Edit: meticulous rebuild, after initial stumbles, has worked flawlessly so far this season. I'm gonna run them until they run no more!

    Can you explain the difference between the motor series #581621306 etc. and #5863561 etc.? I've seen both, and even in this video, purportedly for the former, you are showing the latter. Thank you!

      The biggest difference is the 06 version has a metal mounting flange which is not only stronger, but also helps to dissipate the heat which is what caused grease to burn up and bearings to fail in previous versions.

    Hi! Thanks for the info. Question: I've read that I cannot change only one motor if I upgrade to the new version - have to change both. Is that true? Also, I've read that it requires a software update if I upgrade - is that true? Thanks for your reply!

      @RoboticMowerServices  Рік тому

      No, you don't HAVE to change both, but the theory is that if one has gone bad and they are of the same age and have the same amount of use on them then the other will probably be failing before long too. You also can run into a situation where the new one is stronger than the worn out one so it causes the mower to veer off to one side instead of going straight.
      A software update is NOT needed for a wheel motor replacement. They are plug and play.

    Is there a new version of the wheel motor for the 315x or are we out of luck? It looks just like the ones in the video, but you didn’t say the video was also about the 300 series.

    Why are you saying a re grease is a waste of time? I doubled the mileage on my motors.

      @RoboticMowerServices  4 місяці тому

      Because the issue is heat building up in the gearbox. The new version with the metal flange helps to dissipate the heat.

      We've seen that quite a few times. We've even seen dealers with the wheel motors that end in "02" on their shelves and they think it's the "latest version" because it was the last one that they ordered and they just don't keep up on part changes and updates. That was a big reason why we made this video. Now people will have a better idea what to look for as far as wheel motors.
