Not hearing the music at the end when Travolta is walking is hilarious. Although last I checked, Times Square isn't normally that quiet, even at 3 in the morning lol.
"The excuse didn't work for Heinrich Himmeler." Only Brad would find a way to reference the Nazi high command in a musical that wasn't the Producers or Sound of Music.
Ever since discovering The Cinema Snob, almost a year ago, I have enjoyed countless laughs. Thank you, Brad, for creating such a stuck-up and cynical (and perhaps insane) comedic character!
Hol-lee SHIT! You are not kidding about Travolta being in the best shape of his life. I can't get over how freaking amazing he looks in this movie. Too bad he didn't keep it.
Travolta was a thin guy early in his career. when he was picked for Tony Manero for Saturday night Fever, he was already thin. but he said due to all the dance training, he lost another 25 lbs. But he worked out a bit in staying alive since that's what sly asked him to do. and we know that sly is a gym rat.
I can tell Brad is really into this review, he's just putting more energy into his character than usual. Compare this to something like "The Lonely Lady" review, he just wanted to do this movie. You can tell. "Its Stayin' Alive, not Staying Alive! There's no G in this disco dojo!"
It's like when Bob Saget directed "For Hope". A serious and medically accurate drama about a woman struggling with scleroderma, which is a critically acclaimed television movie, for which both he and the star Dana Delaney received praise critically and from the Scleroderma Foundation.
I think it's fantastic that the entire point of this movie was to troll the fans of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER... and yet it STILL made 3 times it's budget. But this thing still cost $23 million to make? In 1983?!? Fox made STAR WARS "AND" ALIEN for that amount of money!
I always thought “Urban Cowboy” thematically worked better as a sequel to Saturday Night Fever. All you have to do is think that a few months after SNF, Tony just got fed up and decided to leave New York and ended up in Houston. Save for the different accents Travolta uses in the 2 films, the characters are very similar. Staying Alive, though, is some cheesy stupid fun.
Wow, a zero on rotten tomatoes? It didn't seem that bad, at least the dancing was okay. How could it be at the same level as Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas?
The real question is which Sylvester Stallone musical is worse. Staying Alive or Rhinestone (which currently has a 15% on Rotten Tomatoes). I’ll leave it up to you to decide which is worse.
Remember that Rotten Tomatoes is only positive or negative. Every critic giving it a negative review doesn't mean every critic hated it, just that no critic liked it.
I think he didn't because he cares about his audience, it could have been death by laughter just seeing Brad walking to Stayin Alive. But, seriously, I agree with you.
Love that music from the trailer, Frank Stallone's "Far from Over". That song was in EVERYTHING back in the 80s, but the best use of it was the old SNL sketch where Harry Shearer and Martin Short were doing Men's Synchronized Swimming!
I'm surprised you didn't mention the more recent version of "Satan's Alley" starring Tobey Maguire and Kirk Lazarus. But I have to ask, How in the hell did they make that play from a story about gay monks?!
Stallone would've had hit with this movie if he just included Stephanie & Tony's friends. The audience wanted to see what happened to them after Saturday Night Fever. But Stallone shot himself in tne foot just focusing on Tony.
Holy shit... I just realized that this one classic Simpsons episode, which had a scene that I always assumed was referencing Saturday Night Fever, was actually referencing the ending of Staying Alive.
Didn't he produce the 1996 movie version of 'Evita'? Gee, Madonna, Andrew Lloyd Webber, a story about a fascist concubine, brought to you by the guy who brought you Andrew Lloyd Webber . . . and the 'Sgt. Pepper' movie . . . what could have gone wrong?
He's constantly trying to f%ck women in this film. He even wrongfully forced himself on one. Yet people wondered he was gay?? 😁 Probably has to do with the stereotype that ballet and interpretive dance is gay. Which is untrue -- straight men and women participate in these things too.
😁 lol kinda reminds me of how people used to say *"chefs are gay"* (or "most of 'em are gay"). But I think that all changed after Gordon Ramsay appeared.
This movie's so notorious, as a kid I knew of it even before I saw it on tv because my parents referred to it as one of the worst things they had ever seen ("that movie that ruined Travolta's career"). I don't hate it myself but I do feel embarrased for the actors at times.
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. I love Musical March (in September), let's hope our beloved Snob will highlight atleast one hidden gem like he did with "Shock Treatment".
Well, she *DID* manage to jump about 7 feet upwards at the end (given how fast the platform was rising during the scenes we saw it). Grams using telekinesis, maybe?
It's seldom when a sequel outplays the original, but this time, the review far more outplayed the sequel! Gr8 job on this one. Makes you want to have a sequel of this review!
Another musical... Awesome bro! Definitely one of the best episodes of the year. I saw the opening scene when I was ten but I've never seen the whole film. Now I'll have to. As the Snob said, "You have to see it to believe it." I might end up liking it. No kidding at all when I say this, Xanadu is my favorite musical... John Travolta once said that Sylvester Stallone was his favorite director to work with, because he knew best on how to make him look good on the big screen. I agree, and not just with Travolta. Just from the clips shown here, this movie looks exceptionally well shot cinematography wise, and visually wise... All the actors and actresses here are also amazing to look at. This is toned sexiness at its finest. And all those butt shots. I haven't seen this much male & female ass since Yor, the Hunter from the Future... The Snob called Can't Stop the Music the most in the closet gay film ever made. Then I think Staying Alive should be dubbed the most in the closet "bisexual" film ever made... I liked the reference to Exorcist II at the end. I fucking hate that movie. Before starting this review I thought, "This can't be worse than Exorcist II." When that part came up it made me laugh so hard... Saturday Night Fever, Staying Alive, and Moment by Moment just make me say out loud, "I can't believe John Travolta was ever this skinny." I think this the first time I've ever heard the Cinema Snob say cunt... My insides squeed when the Snob quoted "Self Control" during Satan's Alley. Midnight Heat! Love it Brad... Last two things I have to say... Owning an 8-track, definitely makes you cool in my book, and please never stop being an asshole...
Y’know, the combination of Sylvester Stallone and musical makes me wonder if Brad is ever going to review Rhinestone (which came one year after Staying Alive). Yeah Stallone didn’t direct Rhinestone but he co-wrote it and co starred in it.
25:10 The thing that really amazes me about that jump is that, even if we allow for some cuts to happen simultaneously, the speed we see the platform rising means that Laura managed to jump up over 7 feet! That's not counting the distance across. Hell, the platform was already about 4 feet high when Tony beckoned toward her.
Oh look! it's that bird that played Emma Frost in that Generation X TV movie...hey Brad, fancy covering that sometime? it goes pretty much under the radar these days.
Yes I've been waiting for you to tackle this one since your Two of a Kind review. I guess I have to take your word for it. I'd like to go back in time and see how people reacted to the ending in the theaters.
Gotta love that gay cruising shot between John and Sylvester. Always find an excuse to lock eyes if you cross a hot dude. And then pretend you don't care.
Not hearing the music at the end when Travolta is walking is hilarious. Although last I checked, Times Square isn't normally that quiet, even at 3 in the morning lol.
The first time I went to NYC, it was Labor Day and Times Square was practically deserted in the middle of the day.
"The excuse didn't work for Heinrich Himmeler."
Only Brad would find a way to reference the Nazi high command in a musical that wasn't the Producers or Sound of Music.
And that's why we love him. 😎

+maugos True. His shape was Bruce Lee level shape.
sorry but he can't beat Patrick swayze
His dick can.
+maugos he was fucking hot as hell.

How awesome would it have been to have a Stallone/Travolta buddy picture circa 1980? Call it "Italian Cheesefest". Shut up and take my money!
I'd fund it.
Better yet, a Tony Manero/Rocky Balboa movie. The crossover of the century.
A dancing movie directed by Sylvester Stallone.... I expect blood, guts, one liners, and explosions!
It's like when Bob Saget directed "For Hope". A serious and medically accurate drama about a woman struggling with scleroderma, which is a critically acclaimed television movie, for which both he and the star Dana Delaney received praise critically and from the Scleroderma Foundation.
UNI QUE NEW YORK UNI QUE NEW YORK! That had me fuckin rolling on the floor!
In the words of the Cinema Snob, "Jason Blum could have made this with the spare change in his couch."
Stallone probably commanded a massive fee for directing.
Stayin Alive required massive piles of cocaine to make, Star Wars and Alien did not. cocaine was quite expensive back then.
"You guys potty too hawd."
22:25 "Why not audition for Cats right now?"
5 years later....

Because it’s the sequel and successor to Saturday Night Fever, yes, it’s that bad. Everything about it is fucking inferior.
@@geoffreysorkin5774 Well, if absolutely no critic liked, then that should tell ya something.
"Saving Christmas" looks like Oscar calibur work compared to the insipid "Staying Alive. " Worst sequel EVER.
3:46- 6 years later, and you finally reviewed Rhinestone, and treated it more positively than critics at the time.
I absolutely love this movie. I love SNF, but I really love this one more.
Still better than the Look Who's Talking movies.
3:55 No wonder his character in Dead Poet’s Society wanted his son to become a doctor. 😂
I love how you kept calling the bearded guy various different character and real life names. Best running gag you've done in a while.
I was kind of hoping to see the Cinema Snob strut at the end. But what he ended up doing was probably more in his character.
I think he didn't because he cares about his audience, it could have been death by laughter just seeing Brad walking to Stayin Alive.
But, seriously, I agree with you.
Ka chow
The last mental image that I needed was John Travolta in Jennifer Beals' role in Flashdance. Thanks trailer sequence!
Love that music from the trailer, Frank Stallone's "Far from Over". That song was in EVERYTHING back in the 80s, but the best use of it was the old SNL sketch where Harry Shearer and Martin Short were doing Men's Synchronized Swimming!

What part of "to form the dumbest worst film of all time" don't you understand?
You just earned a thumb up for the awesome "A Clockwork Orange" reference :D
So wait... you mean ghosts *CAN* do it?
Holy shit... I just realized that this one classic Simpsons episode, which had a scene that I always assumed was referencing Saturday Night Fever, was actually referencing the ending of Staying Alive.
"far from over" is a good song.
9:12
I wouldn't wanna argue with that JonTron accent....
Oh god, i hear it!
Holy shit, I had 100% forgotten that I'd seen this as a kid, and several times. This is a crazy nostalgia trip.
11:51-12:21The guitarist in Frank Stallone's band (left hand side) is a young Richie Sambora (ex-Bon Jovi)!
why do movies from this time look like the house is burning with thick smoke in every room..and everything is so dirty
S1nwar probably due to a combination of film degrading, special effects and actual smoke from people smoking
That's just how New York City was in the 80's...it's not an effect
Cameras were not always hd lol
Dont forget the pervading new wave that made every genre sound like all songs were just pumped put of a machine
@Mrs. Arthur Morgan i like it in strides
man, that frank stallone song is catchy as heck!
You guessed it, Frank Stallone.
There he is! I was wondering when he turn up.
+Nana Amuah One of Norm MacDonald's best jokes ever FTW. :-)
And in the words of Spoony, "Where the hell is Frank Stallone?"
Where the hell is Spoony?
bitching about fucking nothing on Twitter

On behalf of all Cinema Snob fans, we are all waiting for your Rhinestone review.
I'm waiting for to see you go after "Drinkinstein"
Kurtwood Smith at 3:54 (Eric's dad from That 70s Show)
Finola Hughes is just so god damn beautiful in this movie.
This movie would've been a big hit if Stallone had included Tony's friends & what happened to them years later it's not just about Tony Manero.
Actually, it would have been a better film if it was NOT A SEQUEL.
Still one of my all time fav snob reviews! Musical March in September is the best snob tradition!
6 years later, i still watch this review alot....
"He's a ghost!" LOL!!!!!
This makes me want you to review 'Perfect' (1985)
I had an image in my head of Alfred Hitchcock with Sylvester Stallone's hair. That would significantly change his shadow profile.
😂
RIP Robert Stigwood. Anything left by him for The Snob to review.
Those early '80's headbands, like the innards of unicorns - yay! Happy poops and sparkle farts!
Y'know, there's something really soothing about coming home to find a new video of your favourite snarky guy riffing on the movies of yesteryear.
Welcome back Musical March in September!
Travolta here sounds like Sylvester Stallone doing a John Travolta impression. Fucking weird
SpikeJet2736 Well, remember who co-wrote, served as producer, and directed this anus turkey.
Yo, Adrian... I did it!
Frank Stallone = an Actor who bearly appears in his Starring Movie.
This is like a PG-rated "Showgirls" with a male lead.
That's another problem with this movie, why was it rated PG when the first one was a hard R?
@@jakek1735 Yeah! What the fuck kind of R-rated movie has a fucking PG sequel?!?!
Finola Hughes reminds me of Daisy Ridley
Is anyone else picking up a strong Carrie Fisher vibe from Laura? If not for the accent I would have assumed it was her.
Yessss! Crossed with a young Mary Tyler Moore.
Still absolutely one of your best episodes, Brad. Got me to buy the movie, btw!
Can't wait for a Xanadu review, Brad!! My cousin was in a production of it
+MrsMojoRisinBlues In case Brad doesn't review Xanadu, you can always check of the Nostalgia Chick review of it.

Satan's Alley sure sounds like a sure fire Broadway hit
New here. The draw for me is you do films not everyone else does. Keep up the good work.
Am i the only one who thought the Satan's Alley bits were kind of cool?
There should have been a scene with the Moral Majority protesting outside the theater.
