I created this brief walk through history of Pennhurst documentary from footage shot for one of my video production class projects, which was not completed after this frightening experience had the tape left untouched for many years. There is So Much to go over about this place, I didn't even get into all the sad details of the horrific conditions, countless instances of unethical medical experiments, and testing new radical ideas; shock therapy, chemical & physical lobotomies...
All as a DocuMovie to spark interest in writing a screenplay for a feature length independent short horror film or series.
Would love to see what could be made with a modest budget & some other creative minds!

Pennhurst State School and Hospital (originally: Eastern Pennsylvania State Institution for the Feeble-Minded and Epileptic ) was once a state-run institution for mentally and physically disabled individuals in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Located in Spring City. Opened November 23, 1908, the asylum finally closed its doors in the late 1980's. The Hallowed site reopened as a Halloween Haunt at a Previously Abandoned Insane Asylum that many believe is Haunted. Until it reopened recently as a theme park style Haunted Attraction. Open to the public Halloween haunts are not for the faint of heart or those easily scared.
Some Street Names, Locations, Character Names, Dialogue & Actions Have Been Changed For Dramatic Story Telling Effect And Safety Reasons.
These location are no longer abandoned, they are all currently privately owned no trespassing allowed.
