Yeah it's melee is a great tool to use. Stuns or knocks back every enemy you can saw into and best above all, it doesn't overheat the suit but only costs ammo. Mashing it's melee increases it's damage, it can dismember Romanov's, and it exposes Unknown's core in one go.
I totally agree with your intro point about devs properly porting PS3/360 era titles. That was such a dark time for PC games because console ports would lack so many critical features and the ports would be terrible. I'd much rather have well made ports for $20 rather than unnecessary remakes for $70.
Youve said a lot of things I agree with. Vanquish definitely is or feels like one of the best games of all time. Really feels like a gamer's game if that makes sense. Love it
Disappointed that you didn't love the sawblade launcher! It's great, just not as a projectile weapon. In melee, it OHKOs most robots without causing overheat, and anything it doesn't kill outright still gets a decent chunk of HP taken. The other niche weapons are similarly fun if you are willing to play around their quirks.
I've completed this game some years ago with the pc port and fell in love with it, hope this video gets more people to try the game. I always find your videos interesting; you express your thoughts clearly and with nuance about the games you like or hate, that's why I support you, keep it up.
I think part of the "problem" was it being a console exclusive, I wanted to play it during it's original release, but didn't have those consoles :/ Got it on pc the day it was released. Also, great jab at Jimmy boy.
Usually, I write off cover shooters because I end up getting to bored with it, but I really want to try Vanquish now because it looks like a lot of fun!
What are the odds, I was planning on giving this game a try for the very first time, also you’re the reason why I got into Lost Planet in the first place, was the first video I saw from you and I just gotta say I really love your content, I also gotta ask - what’s your favorite video game franchise? Halo?
The only other third-person shooter that rivals Vanquish imo is Gunvalkyrie for the original Xbox (also backwards compatible for the newer ones). Gunvalkyrie is even less known than Vanquish but really well designed and challenging, and using the jetpack to fly feels really cool and satisfying. I recommend trying to play Vanquish on God Hard difficulty, all of the weapon upgrades have been removed on that difficulty which is a plus for the reasons you said in this video, and it is way, way more challenging overall than any other difficulty. You really have to have good knowledge and skill in the mechanics and the weapon and enemy types.
vanquish and lost planet 2 are peak third person shooters to me, i prefer lp2 a little bit more mainly for nostalgia but also everything about it, but vanquish is just so stupid fun it feels like an arcade game, and in the best way.
This is one of the only games where I played the Demo having never even heard of it and immediately was sold by the gameplay within minutes. The gameplay is truly unmatched. Ill also add for console players there is a remaster on PS4 that is really good too especially ran back compat on PS5.
I believe this and Binary Domain (both great games) didn't sell well because people don't like to shoot things that don't bleed. If the enemies were human, hit games the both of them.
..I doubt that’s the reason why, like what does a couple of red textures popping out of an enemy when you shoot them add to the gameplay or story? Realism? but nothing more than that.
Huh I've never really considered this. Though now that u say it it does make some sense. Idk if that alone would make them hits, but I've been playing and loving lies of p. But have always felt like the enemies just weren't on the same level as bloodborne, to be fair few games have enemies that match bloodborne, but now I do think maybe the lack of blood and gorey kills are a factor in this feeling
I think you may be right. The robots may seem a bit like bionicle and childish on the surface. Maybe makes the game seem immature. I dont really mind, but yeah I think if the game was more gorey it mightve sold better. I can already see the gore compilations youtube videos being made lol
Great vid! I've played very little of Vanquish at the time but never really sunk my teeth into it. Hearing it's a great game does give me interest to wanna play it. Also, just due to the recency of the RE4R DLC, I was curious if you'd ever played/wanna review any of the Resident Evil titles. Either way, loved the video and the channel man!
I respect the game for being unique but it didn't really grab me as much. The upgrade system was a serious turn off early on. Limiting weapon variety alot. And the weapons lacked spice alot at base game. Enemies are unique but most blend and bleed into the background. Movement's nice but there's not a feeling of progression like Bayonetta or even Ultrakill had. Bayonetta had new moves constantly, and weapons that defined a playstyle. Ultrakill had great weapons that really encourage dynamic switching. And many movement options Vanquish didn't. I enjoy the rush between cover but I dislike the game turning you into a rock. Game loses nearly all momentum if you try to be too aggressive. Something just feels missing from the pasta sauce. It feels like it wanted to be unique, yet took flaws and compromses from other games that actively hurt it's design. It almost had it.
Vanquish is the kind of game which would benefit incredibly from a sequel, something that would polish it and pack it with some new additions. Too bad it won't happen ...
the sawblade launcher is supposed to be used for the melee, which uses ammo instead of energy and does a shit ton of damage along with cutting off enemy limbs also i damn never never upgraded weapons, i was switching so often because normal difficulty i guess wasnt hard enough to force me to stick with 3 weapons i wish vanquish went full in on the movement though, it has the potential to be my favourite shooter, the only time vanquish is a movement shooter is when youre good enough and i unfortunately am not
A bit of a shame that advanced mechanics weren't mentioned. Boost dodging is this games dodge offset and opens it up immensely when you realize that you can cancel a lot of animations with melee or the boost. Unfortunately the game doesnt teach you these options so I don't really blame people for not knowing about them, but boost dodging alone is what makes it a movement shooter since it gives you invincibility frames while not using any of your boost meter. Youre pretty much always in the thick of it when you get used to it. But your appreciation for the game shines through with the video and i do share your complaints about the upgrade system. Definitely check out the many advanced tech tutorials if you get the chance. Turned it from a great game to one of my faves
Such a cult classic, albeit too easy on PC with mouse aiming. It's a shame you didn't mention the cigarette flick trick. It's not that useful but it's oh so cool and ripped straight out of a movie.
Have you reviewed Metal Gear Rising Revengance yet? I dont think ive seen it yet if so. But if and when you do please promise to try learn the perfect parry system in Revengance difficulty, its so insane.
Okay, it's great to see how Vanquish holds up, even today, and manages to be one of a kind, yes. But I have to express how much I resent that disparaging view you tend to throw at Gears of War, as if it didn't already incentivize the player from the first game to not get stuck in a single cover, to flank enemies, or to have a variety of equally decent enemies that forces you to constantly change position, and it was just another lazy and clumsy military FPS, COD Clon but in third person. Bullshit. And that for me (no offense), is already a very arrogant prejudice on your part. Also not forget the risk-reward factor that mechanics like the Lancer's chainsaw give you, which allows you to finish off your enemy in one hit and avoid the dead time between kills, or the constant overwhelming of enemies. The same with other weapons.
You call it a masterpiece, yet all the combat section is only rightfully complaining about the bigges flaws of the game that drag it down and make it mediocre at best
Vanquish walked so Doom Eternal and ULTRAKILL could run. It was the precursor to the intense character action shooters we see more often now
Sawblade's main purpose is it's melee attack to carve into enemies.
Yeah it's melee is a great tool to use. Stuns or knocks back every enemy you can saw into and best above all, it doesn't overheat the suit but only costs ammo. Mashing it's melee increases it's damage, it can dismember Romanov's, and it exposes Unknown's core in one go.

Absolute kino. Banger video yet again!
It's criminal this never got a sequel
Criminal that we never got the sequel. Great review
It has that definitive 2010 green filter
I have never heard of this game but it looks incredible. Thanks for showing us an old banger.
I think part of the "problem" was it being a console exclusive, I wanted to play it during it's original release, but didn't have those consoles :/
Got it on pc the day it was released.
Also, great jab at Jimmy boy.

Rumor has it Vanquish is a Jetstream Sam prequel
This game reminds me alot of Metal Gear Rising to the point that I have been told that this game is just Metal Gear Rising but with guns.
This game really needs a sequel
What are the odds, I was planning on giving this game a try for the very first time, also you’re the reason why I got into Lost Planet in the first place, was the first video I saw from you and I just gotta say I really love your content, I also gotta ask - what’s your favorite video game franchise? I swear the basic enemies in vanquish are the covenant from halo.
Fantastic video, I have only ever seen my brother play the demo of the game but knew it looked familiar
I just finished this game for the first time a few weeks ago
It's like Platinum had taken that boring cover shooter formula and gave it a lot of doses of roids. And I loved it.
Someone’s a accursed farms fan
vanquish and lost planet 2 are peak third person shooters to me, i prefer lp2 a little bit more mainly for nostalgia but also everything about it, but vanquish is just so stupid fun it feels like an arcade game, and in the best way.

I loved this game. I still think the best third person shooters ever are easily the PS2 Socom games. This was good in its own way though.
32:26 THAT's Jim Sterling?
I believe this and Binary Domain (both great games) didn't sell well because people don't like to shoot things that don't bleed. If the enemies were human, hit games the both of them.
Eh I disagree there's plenty of gore in vanquish and other games are successful with primarily robotic enemies (borderlands 2)
..I doubt that’s the reason why, like what does a couple of red textures popping out of an enemy when you shoot them add to the gameplay or story? Realism? but nothing more than that.

Why stop at San Francisco? Just get rid of California entirely and we'll all be better off.
Nuke the entire west coast
I respect the game for being unique but it didn't really grab me as much.

Great game! Reminds me that I have to buy it on pc.
Vanquish is the kind of game which would benefit incredibly from a sequel, something that would polish it and pack it with some new additions. Too bad it won't happen ...
Pits one of my favourite games I still own it on ps5
love the game. feels like acid dreeam sometimes
the sawblade launcher is supposed to be used for the melee, which uses ammo instead of energy and does a shit ton of damage along with cutting off enemy limbs

I got all the achievements. Like if you conquered Challenge 6

The only reason I haven't played this yet, is because I have a few other shooters I want to play through first.
Why does this game's Sam look so much like Jetstream Sam from Metal Gear Rising? lol
PC ports are a blessing.
It's Mass Effect if it didn't give a fck
Such a cult classic, albeit too easy on PC with mouse aiming.
It's a shame you didn't mention the cigarette flick trick. It's not that useful but it's oh so cool and ripped straight out of a movie.

incorrect, it is not hellsinker
also imagine having upgrades 😂😂😂 god hard gang
Nintendo
You need to clean up your vocabulary
Personally hate this game. Missed potential.
Deserves a sequel to fix up its flaws.
Vanquish isn't the best 3rd person shooter ever. Max Payne 3 and Resident Evil 4 are better.
nah
@@BunkerDweller Yes
Vanquish movement is crazy tho. Makes the others seem slow in comparison
MP3 is trying to be realistic, RE4 is half-anime half-realistic, Vanquish is full on anime.
You call it a masterpiece, yet all the combat section is only rightfully complaining about the bigges flaws of the game that drag it down and make it mediocre at best
He seemed positive overall about the gameplay to me.

Meanwhile Fallout 3 is going to get iron sites.
