It was a good hunt. Boys didn’t want to hunt so I told him the old man was gonna go get it…..he stayed home, so I went and sat where he was showing up everyday lol. Gotta be opportunistic. On to Alligator hunting for a bit
@@darkangeltrantham6877 Man I really appreciate it. Hang around, we have alligator hunting in a couple weeks and more deer hunting and trapping to follow. Might get some fishing in too
lol. First ever early season buck hunt. It was 3 days so people might have a chance at a velvet buck. If that big spike was legal here, he’d been toast lol. I’ve got a weakness for a big spike
@RaisedOutdoors when I first seen him I didn't immediately recognize he was in velvet. My first thought was, that is the thickest horned spike in the world lol
They were hitting food sources and movement was really good in West Central Arkansas. That buck was stanky….been making scrapes here and marking territory. Chasing will be on here in mid October but those deer down there are always behind these here. Food, water and thick bedding
Said one of the neighbors would have killed him and he wouldn’t have grown up. Well you ended that train of thought. Can’t let them grow up if you shoot them young. Talk to your neighbors and work on growing older deer, looks like you have the genetics. Work on food sources together. Thin you trees they look terribly over stocked
Yea we worked on it for years. Unfortunately it’s 50 acres and most of the neighbors aren’t interested in talking, and the backside is public. We’ve let deer walk constantly for years and they just never show back up so we just make a plan and take the ones we want. That statement was made because we discussed letting him walk if we saw him but ultimately came to the decision that we were fine taking him knowing that we seldom see any return once they get any decent rack regardless of age. Just how it works out on that property and we’re fine with it. I don’t get too caught up in what the mainstream says people should do, we keep full freezers and enjoy our time hunting. As far as the trees go, this is timber company land and that’s not an option to thin trees. Even if I owned the land I wouldn’t do mass tree thinning and cutting. Deer love thick cover and they use this property to bed. We hunt the edges of bedding which is really productive for us. The deer venture off this property and most of the property lines are hunted, so they get taken…..we don’t get upset about it because people can take whatever they want that’s legal. Every situation is different and we understand that this particular property is surrounded by hunting and subdivision backyard shooters…..that’s why we get to hunt it cheap. We want everyone to enjoy hunting and not always make it about just antler size. We just want folks to be excited about getting to take a deer.
Congratulations. That was a great shot.

I didn't know we had pigmy deer in arkansas
Me either
That video was shot in .5 zoom which makes things appear smaller to get a wider shot. Pictures at the end show size better.
That was meant to be 😁
Seemed that way lol
