We need to see a demo with a bass guitar. (And also need to see how the unit responds and performs with a GKC-AD converter since many of us still own 13 pin devices). Yeah that would be.... would take one hell of a processor though... 😅 The Zen-core engine is very powerful on its own though and I think it shows in the sound quality improvements. But yeah would probably be double the price but I'd like to see that one day too 👍🙏🎸
@@AlexHutchingsMusic Well Boss should think big, double the price, double the processing. (or trple) ;) That would be such unique unit, you could say you have everything in one unit. Boss's competition asking a lot more just for modeling units. No one except Boss could offer such thing. But I understand that there is hardware limitations, so it possible trough different units such as GT, SY, GP and GM and build modular system.
I’d settle for them to update the GP 10 so I don’t have to take an sy-1000 just for guitar modelling/alt tunings. Something gt 1000 core size would be ideal
When it comes to Guitar-Synths I'm very sceptical by nature since usually either the sound quality or play-feeling is just not good enough BUT I must say that I'm very intrigued with the BOSS GM-800. From what I've seen the sounds are easily the best that I've ever gotten from a guitar synth, at least good enough for live playing and thankfully with stereo output 🙏 I'm not 100% convinced that it is a thing for studio yet since Piano synths and plugins are just handier but I can definitely see some use in creating unique sounds... I would love to get my hands on one of these :)
Is there a complete guide to using the GM 800, somewhere? The manual is very brief. Also, what settings so that GM 800 plays back MIDI I've just recorded? I can record but not playback.
This is a basic question about connectivity. I understand connecting the new pickup to dedicated TRS cable to go to the GM800 input, then to amp or other Multi-Effects pedal. Because I would be using this live in a gig situation, I would like information about how to connect normal guitar signal to the multi-effects pedal, and procedure to bypass the GM800 (inside the song), to using regular guitar signal. Currently, using external keyboard pedals is all done inside the multi-effects pedal, with one stomp. What is necessary with GM-800? Thanks, Mark
Can you pse demo sax, flutes etc . What would a whole package including zenology cost. Does the GM800 come with the guitar pick up interface etc thank you great demo
How's hooking the GK5 to a lefthanded guitar? The clamp would be upside down, is there enough wire from the pickup for this? Any chance a video on the GK5 for lefthanded guitars? Thanks!!!
Thanks Alex. So what do I need [to buy] to use the GM800? Seeing that I cant just plug my electric guitar straight into the GM800. What else do I need to purchase with the unit, to get it working? Thanks..
Hey mate, thanks for watching. You need either the new GK-5 pickup or a guitar with GK-3 installed and the conversion box. This video is quite long but should tell you everything you need to know. All the best ua-cam.com/video/F-XpmmtR47U/v-deo.html 👍🙏🎸
Dear Alex you got me again.. I admire your mastery and sound designing as well. GM 800 four layers structure is really impressive compared to preceding Roland/Boss synths. Surprisingly the reference manual is strangely brief and among other questions one important isn’t answered at all - How the R button works- is there a kind of a looper implemented in GM? And another one which seems to be resolved from the editor manual - the factory scenes can be rewritten? Thank you so much and keep on doing great things you do! Ludek Prague
Hello mate, thanks for watching and I'm glad you're enjoying the GM-800. Yes the R section, is basically a Rhythm channel which you can assign a drum kit to, there aren't any loops in the unit itself but I believe you can use the midi in to trigger the sounds so maybe there's a way to use an external sequencer etc... I'm still grappling with it but I hope that is some kind of an answer mate. There are 150 space for you to rewrite either the factory scene or make up your own. 👍🙏🎸
Alex has a converter box and schooling on it to know the gk3 will control the volume functions on the gk3 13 PIN guitars ???, Thanks please.. It will control the volume, I'm all in ,thx
Hey mate, I have used the converter box for the last 8 months and used it to program many of the presets and I can happily confirm it works very well indeed. The volume and S1/S2 button work as you would expect and it tracks extremely well. I hope that helps. 👍🙏🎸
Can you add a sustain pedal just like a piano would have so the chord will sustain perfectly up to the next chord is played? I am hearing gaps between chord changes. There must be a sustain for each tone but can it controlled to go on and off precisely with a sustain or expression pedal? This would be very important when using piano sounds. if time permits can you explain how that would be done in a response here. Thanks to one of the greatest guitarists alive!!!!!
Hello man, thanks for your question and kind words. Yes you can sustain the notes for sure. I believe it is set in the 'hold' section. There are different types but one acts like a piano sustain pedal. Hope that helps. Cheers for now 👍🙏🎸
Ok mate, well briefly I can tell you the R section, is basically a Rhythm channel which you can assign a drum kit to, this can be triggered by the guitar itself of via the midi in. So maybe it could be used via and external sequencer etc I'm still learning about it myself right now but I think that's the main purpose 👍🙏🎸
Hi Alex, thanks for your video ! I bought the GM800 and it's incredible. I'd say there is only a minor issue with sensibility of the guitar pickup. Would you have some tips to share to improve the latency time occuring sometimes and also to get the maximum precision with notes when playing strings ? DId you have the same issue when setting up the product ? The precision is huge in your playing, I'd love to have the same! I guess it's more technical than musical for a video but it would help many boss gm800 users... Best, Benoit
You have pointed out exactly same problems with me. I purchased GM-800 just 2 weeks ago, and I'm facing to latency problems too but I can't find the way how to reduce it.
@@rbguy3522 If that can help, I got this answer from another youtube channel about this issue : "If my notes seem especially precise it might help that I'm pretty uptight in general about muting unplayed strings, and isolating my notes as much as possible by muting unplayed strings constantly whenever I'm playing anything. But even so, I did encounter some weirdness with note detection-it came up especially in the last song in this video, but I left it in because I thought it sounded cool in the midst of what I was playing. Hi Alex.. thanx for your details…(and your great playin… love it!)… is it possible to play the gm800 via gk5 on acoustic guitar and can you blend the sounds with the pickup from the guitar? Greetings Wolfgang /Germany
Hi Alex, will this work with a Godin guitar? obviously with the new GK interface, any chance of a rack version? does it track better than the GR55? any latency on the sounds? Would my GR55 be able control this via midi?
Hi Alex. Thank you for your videos. You are an expert, so I direct my question to you about connecting the GM-800. I'm an acoustic guitarist. I have a wonderful Maton and he is the heart of my performances. First question: how does the GK-5 work on an acoustic guitar? Second question: I use the FX (formerly the SY-200) as backgrounds and sometimes as solo sounds. What is your idea how to connect the GK-5 and GM-800 so that I can use the acoustic guitar interchangeably with the effects from the GM-800 (e.g. flute solo, piano only) but also so that I can use the Maton signal with the background of the GM-800 (e.g. strings, pad ). It is important that both signals (from Maton and GM-800) go to my vocalizer, and then to the PA. I hope you will find time to answer me. Regards and thank you 😄
Cheers mate, you can simply plug your regular guitar into the GT-1000 or regular rig and use along side it.... Alternatively you could plug the output of this into the GT-1000 and send the GM out of one out put and the Guitar out of another and blend them externally... Lots of possibilities 👍🙏🎸
Great video to start off with Alex. Cheers! Had a question base off of the Zenology but maybe off track with Roland technology? So will we be able to use other synth tones as specially Supernatural instruments or NI and other 3rd party software lists? I own the Integra 7 as well. And would like you input on how to best use it.. More so to be able to drop those tones into the GM 800. Or is the Zenology app exclusively the only way to down load. to the GM800. Hoping to not have to do the midi control and cable thing.
You have Used the Converter box and gk3 so it does the volume and s1,S2 works on the gk3 awesome, Also the converter box with gk3 is great speed lik the GK 5,
Hello mate, all of a sudden I feel like I'm in court, needing to prove I've used the converter box. 😂 So here goes, I here by confirm that I have used the converter box for the last 8 months and used it to program many of the presets and I can happily confirm it works very well indeed. Hi Alex could you make a comparison between the sy 300 and gm 800 ? Pleeease also i wonder if Boss is going to release GK kit to install directly in a guitar also a wireless system for ge 800 would be very well apreciated. Cheers!
Really appreciate the video. However, when I export tones from Zenology (in Logic Pro) following your steps, and transfer them to the GM800 via a USB stick, I get no sound. I've tried multiple tones with the same result.
Problema é o "precinho" no Brasil.
Hey mate, well it's certainly better than the GR-55, better in the sense that the sounds some how seem to be better suited and respond better than before. Unfortunately I've no experience with the triple play although you've reminded me I'd really like to try it.... Looks like I'm off to the store today 😂 👍🙏🎸
I have had most of the Roland guitar synths with my favorite wing the gr 33..it tracks well never had any issues . I tried the triple play wasn’t impressed . I just picked up the gym 800 and cannot wait to get into it . Cheers
This may be a stupid comment but I am a sucker for new technology and purchased the new Boss Midi guitar when it came out. Do you think it would make sense to add the new pickup to the Boss Guitar and have both the internal synth sounds and be able to combine with the Boss GM 800. Just hate wasting money but this new synth is the bomb.
Hey Alex! Hope you're doing well. Is there a patch or a sound for percussion aside from the drum loops that you can control from the guitar? Like congas or so, or can I at least edit the drum loops to my liking?
Hi @Alex Hutchings , thanks for this it's useful. I'm trying to export an .svz sound from the Jupiter 8 soft synth into my Boss GM-800. I don't get an error and the export/import process succeeds. However the sound output by the GM-800 is not the sound exported by the Zenology Pro Plugin. It is just a generic sounding piano sound. I read on a separate forum that in order to export sounds from the Zenology Soft Synth the expansion packs must be BOUGHT, not just part of the Ultimate subscription, which is what I have (the subscription). Is that correct? Do I need to actually purchase the expansion pack synths in order to export the sounds? Thanks.
You probably can't/won't answer this but where does this new tech leave guitar modelling? Is something on the horizon? Do I sell all my old GK gear now?
Pretty sure they didn't develop new Serial GK hardware just to abandon guitar modeling. This is just their first product, and the fact that it's dedicated to the synth side may actually bode well for us guitar modeling fans. The GM-800 does MIDI better than anything we've seen previously in the GK world in part because it isn't trying to do it all. We'll likely see a similar dedicated unit for modeling, and that's the one I'd personally be using 95% of the time. As far as existing GK gear, the big thing I'm wanting to find out is where the improved tracking comes from with the GK-5 -- is it internal mojo, or do the 13-pin converter boxes provide the same tracking improvements? I'm hoping my existing 13-pin equipped guitars will play nice with these new Serial GK devices.
@@alanredversangel I do miss the onboard controls with the GK-5, but they're not necessary for modeling. (Their omission in the GK-5 doesn't necessarily mean that Serial GK won't support it over the cable, but there's no spec available yet as far as I know.) The native guitar signal has always been better handled on its own cable, IMHO. The 13-pin setup buffers the input and I've never liked the resulting tone, so I've always run a standard guitar cable alongside the 13-pin cable.
There is definitely Sitars I'm not at the unit right now but there's a pretty broad selection of tones. There's probably a complete list somewhere on the internet, look up Zen-core engine. All the best 👍🙏🎸
Hey mate, no unfortunately I don't believe there is, however there is midi in so I guess you could run one into it to get the same effect? Cheers for now 👍🙏🎸
Hello! Is it possible to play sounds from software synth such as Impact Soundworks Shreddage and if so, what are the steps that I need to make this work?
Alex! Always a pleasure!! Thanks! May I ask if you did something new on that guitar? I noticed something behind the trem ... Like less wood ajajaja Greetings!!!😊
How does the guitar to midi function? I'm looking for a system that I can use to teach online with and connect to a visualizer to display the specific frets and strings I'm playing to students.
What sound engines does it use? Midi(sampled sounds), synth(oscillators) or amp modeller? Sy300 gets its sound from synth(oscillators) only. But i liked the midi or sampled sounds of gr55? So i am confused what are the sound engines that gm800 uses? Is it just upgrade to sy300 or it has midi engine too like gr55 does?
This looks excellent. In terms of the hardware unit, the GM800 is Boss branded, and then Roland Zenology, and the new hex pickup using TRS rather than the 13 pin. But what I am left wondering, will there be a Roland branded product to update/replace the GR55 or is this the direction that the hardware is now Boss branded?
Haha I wondered when someone would comment on that... It's super cool isn't it? Hmmm unfortunately though I think they were a very limited run. I was given this in Malaysia in around 2011.... I've got a Blues driver one somewhere too.... Real collectables. Maybe check ebay, I'm sure one will turn up some where. All the best and thanks for watching 👍🙏🎸
Good vídeo Alex i have a cuestion for you, if i want to use my gk3 with the gm 800 ill get the same beter tracking? Or i need to use the new cable for it? Cheer Man !
Hi Alex! Great video. I got my GM800 last week. Just wondering if you have ever tried controlling the GM800 with an external keyboard controller via MIDI to make it function as a sound module.
Hi Alex - could you confirm something for a bunch of us picking your vid apart on vguitar forums. You can only export Zen CORE sounds to the GM-800. If you have Zenology Pro, and you create a sound in the a model expansion, that can't be converted and exported to the GM-800 somehow, can it?
Is there a way to use a Boss SY 300 as a sort of midi controller to access the sounds in the GM 800? No special guitar pickup is needed for the SY 300.
Hi Alex, cool demo, I also watched your demo at Andertons. That Synth is amazing. And I saw you mentioning that „Adapter box“ for the older 13 pin Pickups. So I‘d have a few questions.. I recently bought a GP-10 and a GK Pickup for my Stratocaster. 1. Is there a way to have that pickup connected to BOTH devices at the same time, so I wouldnt have to plug and unplug? Like with a kind of adapterbox that you showed for 13-pin users? But combining them? 2. Is there or might there be any update to GP-10 firmware by Boss to make the GP-10s MIDI „compliant“? At present one has to install drivers, which doesnt work with iOS devices. That was a big disappointment, I have to admit. I was planning on that. Would GP-10 MIDI to the new GM 800 work? 3. Is there an update for the GP-10s pc soundeditor so one doesnt need to install the obsolete Adobe Air? Thank you for reading, hoping for positive answers, best regards from Germany
Help me.. When I export the drone sitar from Zenology and import it into Boss GM 800 hardware, there is no sound, only the drone sitar is having trouble
Is there an easy way to add a sustain pedal like you would have it’s a keyboard? On a side note, I sadly couldn’t find a way to export patches from the free version of zenology, which is a shame. I guess boss really do want you to invest in the eco system. I think that some version of the software that would allow the user to export patches should come with the pedal.
Hi Alex If I used a midi out from my controller keyboard to midi in on the GM800 Can I access the patches immediately without changing settings plus I already have many svd file sounds I have already purchased ? Forgive my midi ignorance. I was just thinking at least I can use it as a synth with a controller keyboard while I attempt to develop some guitar synth skills? Cheers Btw I love your videos man. 👍🏻
good day alex, just want to ask if the horrible latency problem in GR55 has been fixed in this GM800? especially those ghost notes from piano are so deal breaking.
Both are totally different machines. SY-1000 is a unit that is subtractive synthesis etc.. GM-800 is PCM synthesis. SY-1000 has guitar/bass/amp models and stuff, where GM-800 doesn't rely on that type of tech even though it does have a few electric guitar / acoustic and bass emulations but not in the same way SY-1000 does.
Is it possible to install the pickup in reverse? is there an option 'reverse pickup' in the pickup setting on the unit? I know the GR55 have this. not quite sure about this unit when I read the manual
Absolutely, it will respond to whatever the strings are tuned too so technically you could use DADGAD Tuning or anything.. It's a really cool unit. 👍🙏🎸
The sound engine in the GM-800 is infinitely better than the GR-55 in my opinion, it's a real leap forward... but there is no guitar modelling however in this unit... that's the main differences hope that helps 👍🙏🎸

To much, to much😢
When it comes to Guitar-Synths I'm very sceptical by nature since usually either the sound quality or play-feeling is just not good enough BUT I must say that I'm very intrigued with the BOSS GM-800.
From what I've seen the sounds are easily the best that I've ever gotten from a guitar synth, at least good enough for live playing and thankfully with stereo output 🙏
I'm not 100% convinced that it is a thing for studio yet since Piano synths and plugins are just handier but I can definitely see some use in creating unique sounds... I would love to get my hands on one of these :)
Is there a complete guide to using the GM 800, somewhere? The manual is very brief.
Also, what settings so that GM 800 plays back MIDI I've just recorded? I can record but not playback.
It will be interesting using boss gm800, without computer for sound shaping and why not, with a MIDI keyboard. Many thanks😊
Alex made a video with GM-800 and GT-1000. Guitar audio was sent to GT-1000 using a wireless transmitter. See diagrams in reference manual.
Can you pse demo sax, flutes etc . What would a whole package including zenology cost. Does the GM800 come with the guitar pick up interface etc thank you great demo
Can you please do a video on how you record the gm800 in logic pro ?
Would love to hear a demo of an Acoustic and nylon string classical guitar..
Demonstrating how authentic it can be..
How's hooking the GK5 to a lefthanded guitar?
The clamp would be upside down, is there enough wire from the pickup for this?
Any chance a video on the GK5 for lefthanded guitars?
Thanks!!!
Spent all the money on this and the GK3 pickup and 13 pin cable. BiG MiStAke!
How about a demo of playing drums with it.
There's a brief moment playing drums in this video ua-cam.com/video/YsPmCjc6F-0/v-deo.html
Cheers for now 👍🙏🎸
Can you use the gm 800 along with your live rig
I.e playing lead part on guitar rig and say a brass part together
Thanks great demo 👍
We must have at least a volume control on the guitar it's self ?? To control the synthesizer GK5 or using gk3 ?
Cheers for now 👍🙏🎸
@@AlexHutchingsMusic thanks for taking the time to respond. The info is helpful.
What I want to know is, where do you get one of those Metal Zone thumb drives? Great video, Alex! Appreciate the knowledge.
Please more information video and what kind of scene R?
Ok mate, well briefly I can tell you the R section, is basically a Rhythm channel which you can assign a drum kit to, this can be triggered by the guitar itself of via the midi in. So maybe it could be used via and external sequencer etc I'm still learning about it myself right now but I think that's the main purpose 👍🙏🎸
@@AlexHutchingsMusic Thanks for the answer.
Question: Apart from the synth aspect, will the 800 allow for independent assignment of standard effects to the "clean" sound of the guitar?

Hi Alex.. thanx for your details…(and your great playin… love it!)… is it possible to play the gm800 via gk5 on acoustic guitar and can you blend the sounds with the pickup from the guitar? Greetings Wolfgang /Germany
Hey Alex could you make a video with more zenology sounds ?
Hi Alex, will this work with a Godin guitar? obviously with the new GK interface, any chance of a rack version? does it track better than the GR55? any latency on the sounds?
Would my GR55 be able control this via midi?
I found a box converter GKC-AD that connects from the godin to he box and then the box to the Boss
Regards and thank you 😄
Great info thanks how would you use the gt1000 core with this unit
Cheers mate, you can simply plug your regular guitar into the GT-1000 or regular rig and use along side it.... Alternatively you could plug the output of this into the GT-1000 and send the GM out of one out put and the Guitar out of another and blend them externally... Lots of possibilities 👍🙏🎸
@@AlexHutchingsMusic Thanks Alex looking forward to getting the GM in the near future 😀🤘
Can you connect the GM 800 to Fractal Axe FX lll and use the Looper to record
From the GM 800. Thank you.
You have Used the Converter box and gk3 so it does the volume and s1,S2 works on the gk3 awesome,
Also the converter box with gk3 is great speed lik the GK 5,
Hello mate, all of a sudden I feel like I'm in court, needing to prove I've used the converter box. 😂 So here goes, I here by confirm that I have used the converter box for the last 8 months and used it to program many of the presets and I can happily confirm it works very well indeed. The volume and S1/S2 button work as you would expect and it tracks extremely well. I hope that helps. 👍🙏🎸
Awesome sorry for pressure I'm reading gathering information , to post to the Boss GM 800 Guitar Synthesizer page so we can get the good news out on this , We've been waiting only 12 years for , so sorry to be anxious and excited.. The guitar synthesizer old world Highly respects and loves you Alex, thx Boyd
@@phatboyzband831 No worries man, and thanks for the kind words.... yes it's an awesome bit of kit and works really well with GK-5 or converter box. I'm excited we finally have a new synth too. I hope you'll have lot's of fun with it when you have a chance to try it. All the very best 👍🙏🎸
So there are any REAL tracking improvements over previous Roland units? it gets on par with the TrIple Play unit? Please Alex can you answer?
Hi Sir the gm 800 is possible connect to other pedals, thanks
Thanks.
What’s the best boss product for guitar modeling with best electric and acoustic 12 string sounds? And has piano sounds??
@@JasonMauer But if guitar modelling is in the pipeline how is a pickup with no input jack, volume or buttons/switches going to pull it off?
@@alanredversangel I do miss the onboard controls with the GK-5, but they're not necessary for modeling. (Their omission in the GK-5 doesn't necessarily mean that Serial GK won't support it over the cable, but there's no spec available yet as far as I know.)
The native guitar signal has always been better handled on its own cable, IMHO. The 13-pin setup buffers the input and I've never liked the resulting tone, so I've always run a standard guitar cable alongside the 13-pin cable.
Does GM800 include Indian tones?Santur, sitar, veena, mandolin, banjo
There is definitely Sitars I'm not at the unit right now but there's a pretty broad selection of tones. There's probably a complete list somewhere on the internet, look up Zen-core engine.
All the best 👍🙏🎸
Hello Alex, does it also have a sequencer, so you could get a sound like The Muse, Map of the Problematique ?
Hey mate, no unfortunately I don't believe there is, however there is midi in so I guess you could run one into it to get the same effect? Cheers for now 👍🙏🎸
Boa tarde!
Você teria como testa-lo com o sistema sem fio da boss o wl-20l?
Hello! Is it possible to play sounds from software synth such as Impact Soundworks Shreddage and if so, what are the steps that I need to make this work?
Alex! Always a pleasure!! Thanks!
May I ask if you did something new on that guitar? I noticed something behind the trem ... Like less wood ajajaja
Greetings!!!😊
Thx man, no I didn't do anything new with it, but I know what you mean... Looks kinda funny. 😂 👍🙏🎸
Hi Alex, how do you transpose synth or piano into guitar tab?
How does the guitar to midi function? I'm looking for a system that I can use to teach online with and connect to a visualizer to display the specific frets and strings I'm playing to students.
What sound engines does it use? Midi(sampled sounds), synth(oscillators) or amp modeller?
Sy300 gets its sound from synth(oscillators) only.
But i liked the midi or sampled sounds of gr55?
So i am confused what are the sound engines that gm800 uses?
Is it just upgrade to sy300 or it has midi engine too like gr55 does?
Por favor toca pach 65 boss gm 800,.....a mi me a funcionado lento notas fantasmas gracias
How is the tracking compared to the Fishman?
This looks excellent. In terms of the hardware unit, the GM800 is Boss branded, and then Roland Zenology, and the new hex pickup using TRS rather than the 13 pin. But what I am left wondering, will there be a Roland branded product to update/replace the GR55 or is this the direction that the hardware is now Boss branded?
WAIT, where can I get a Metal Zone flash drive??
Haha I wondered when someone would comment on that... It's super cool isn't it? Hmmm unfortunately though I think they were a very limited run. I was given this in Malaysia in around 2011.... I've got a Blues driver one somewhere too.... Real collectables. Maybe check ebay, I'm sure one will turn up some where. All the best and thanks for watching 👍🙏🎸
Do only zenology patches work, not all of roland cloud? for example pro comes with full Juno, Pro Mars etc.
So can any Roland Cloud sound (preset or fully custom sound using zen core) can be used on the GM-800 - correct?
does it have a built in violin patch? if not, can it be created? thanks!
i don't see any mention where normal guitar pick ups are discussed , like can you add effects separately to normal pick ups from in the unit
Normal pickups won't work on this machine. You would take your normal guitar output jack into your amp or modeler of your choice.
Hi Alex, how many notes of polyphony? Thanks!
Still nothing about tracking improvements, if any...🎸 I gave you a thumbs up anyway. lol
Yeah man, it's great and definitely better than the GR-55 👍🙏🎸
@@AlexHutchingsMusic how much better Sir? like a 1000 or 5000?
Hi Alex - could you confirm something for a bunch of us picking your vid apart on vguitar forums. You can only export Zen CORE sounds to the GM-800. If you have Zenology Pro, and you create a sound in the a model expansion, that can't be converted and exported to the GM-800 somehow, can it?
Is there a way to use a Boss SY 300 as a sort of midi controller to access the sounds in the GM 800? No special guitar pickup is needed for the SY 300.
no
Hi Alex, cool demo, I also watched your demo at Andertons.
Will our 13 PIN guitar functions work volume and S1 & S2 ? Using the converter box ?
I own a fantom-6 and various other Roland synths. Can I use them the same way I can use the sounds in the Gm-800? Would there be any difference?
What do I do if I want to play a synth pad with a mix of dry signal? Is it possible on this unit?
i can't set logic pro to work with gk5. Can you help ?
Is there an easy way to add a sustain pedal like you would have it’s a keyboard?
On a side note, I sadly couldn’t find a way to export patches from the free version of zenology, which is a shame. I guess boss really do want you to invest in the eco system.
I think that some version of the software that would allow the user to export patches should come with the pedal.
There's a "write" button on the front
also gm-800 has 2 slots on back for CTL pedals or expression pedals... connect a boss fs-5u footswitch and use one of the few sustain options.
Hi Alex
If I used a midi out from my controller keyboard to midi in on the GM800
Can I access the patches immediately without changing settings plus I already have many svd file sounds I have already purchased ?
Forgive my midi ignorance. I was just thinking at least I can use it as a synth with a controller keyboard while I attempt to develop some guitar synth skills?
Cheers
Btw I love your videos man. 👍🏻
good day alex, just want to ask if the horrible latency problem in GR55 has been fixed in this GM800? especially those ghost notes from piano are so deal breaking.
I wish they made a 7 string pickup for this unit
Still just sounds like a keyboard. Is the tracking any better than the SY-1000? The guitar synthesizer has not yet arrived it seems.
I am curious to know how it compares against SY1000. Which one would you choose between these 2?
Both are totally different machines. SY-1000 is a unit that is subtractive synthesis etc.. GM-800 is PCM synthesis. SY-1000 has guitar/bass/amp models and stuff, where GM-800 doesn't rely on that type of tech even though it does have a few electric guitar / acoustic and bass emulations but not in the same way SY-1000 does.
Is it possible to install the pickup in reverse? is there an option 'reverse pickup' in the pickup setting on the unit? I know the GR55 have this. not quite sure about this unit when I read the manual
Yes! I'm new to the navigation on the unit as well. But I saw it around the pick up settings and string sensitivity page.
does this work well with your fourths tuning?
Absolutely, it will respond to whatever the strings are tuned too so technically you could use DADGAD Tuning or anything.. It's a really cool unit. 👍🙏🎸
@@AlexHutchingsMusic does it have mpe?
Looks awesome and I want one, but I can't believe you have to use a usb stick to load sounds in 2023.
the metal zone usb stick omg
Cheers man, cool you noticed... I love it too... I've had it for over 12 years..... 😂 Still works great... 👍🙏🎸
Should I buy gr55 or gm800? What is the difference?
The sound engine in the GM-800 is infinitely better than the GR-55 in my opinion, it's a real leap forward... but there is no guitar modelling however in this unit... that's the main differences hope that helps 👍🙏🎸
How can I switch from synth sound to guitar amp sound, if it does not contain amp modeller?

You can use a GK-3 guitar with a converter box. It works very well I used one for a lot of the sound creation. Thx for watching 👍🙏🎸
