The design of the M3 imac makes it a classic. The 27" is to big for most people but the 24" is just right and fits with most peoples homes.

Surely there will always be a spot for an all-in-one? I sometimes. use mine in the office but mostly in the dining room; just one cable makes that possible. I don't think the Windows market are giving up on the form factor either and if you believe the hyperbole, there are more iMacs out there than any other all-in-one. I really enjoyed the video and kudos for not saying "Family computer". 🙂

The closest you are going to get with the Mac Mini or the Studio, to an all in one, is if you buy the Studio display. Otherwise you end up with at least 6 different cables of some sort to run all the accessories that are included in the iMac. Those accessories include speakers, cameras, and microphones and of course some kind of monitor. You end up paying for all that, and then you have to make it look right. The iMac cleans all that stuff up into one package and it doesn’t have any real competition. Nobody makes anything like it. I’ve seen some all in ones from Dell and maybe one other OEM. They aren’t in the same league and of course they don’t run MacOS.
Even with the Studio display you end up with two distinct units on your desk, an extra power cord, and a Thunderbolt cable to connect it. With the iMac there is only one power cord. That’s it, one cord. No mess, incredibly simple, beautiful display, and plenty of power.

Hi David, thanks for this video.
I'm a photographer here in England and I'm still using a mid 2011 27 inch imac booting off an external Samsung Evo SSD drive.
It still works great but I can't upgrade the OS beyond High Sierra and can't use the latest versions of Photoshop and Lightroom.

I totally agree with you as I still use my Apple iMac 27" from way back 2016 and still going ... It is absolutely silly for Apple to ditch the 27" in my opinion as it was the goto iMac. Instead Apple decided that they can make more money by getting out a 27" Studio Display which is also 5K Retina that the one on the iMac 27" that I'm using !!! The price of the 27" Studio Display is more that what I paid for the 27" iMac 2016 which is a joke. I bought a 2021 MacBook Pro mid specs and the only thing as an option is your yourself, either the 27" Studio Display or a Dell monitor. I guess, it all depends on the use of your applications and it's worth really! I would prefer to get the 27" Studio Display but still rather expensive.

Good evening David. Thank you for your informative and interesting video. I have a 27 inch iMac from 2019 and I’m moving toward a new iMac. Your comments about the entry level versus the higher end iMac with the 8 GB of Ram was something about which I was wondering. Many other commentators have suggested that 8 GB is insufficient. I’ve usually double my initial RAM and it has held well. I’ve been and iMac user for a long time, but now retired, and not doing producing anything, it strikes me that this machine would do. My previous machine had worked well for 12 years. Thanks again. Have subscribed and turned on notifications. Will look at your other videos.

Hi there my friend - sorry it's taken me a little while to get back to you. It goes without saying that a little more RAM is always a good thing, but all I can say that is in the 3 or 4 days I've been using this M3 machine it's never complained or broken a sweat. Apps open quicker and even power apps like Photoshop are working well. The speed with which Apple has developed their silicon is staggering! I love my old Intel iMac but boy - things have moved on at a pace. Even M1 to M3 is a huge improvement. Thanks for watching, and getting involved and the sub means the world - cheers

Guess I’m not alone in wondering what to do next. My 5K 27” iMac is still good for my photoshop & Lightroom work but I’m tempted to go better, and although the Intel remains supported, for how long? Already some features only work on silicon macs and that will increase. But what next? I need to look closer at the elegance of a higher specced 4.5K 24” M3 AIO and compare with a non base M2 Mac Mini plus Apple 5K display…. I reckon the latter will be better performance (but better than I need?) and at a greater cost whereas a high spec 24” may be good enough for my needs. Hmmm. I feel an Apple Store visit coming up!

I had been waiting for Apple to release a 27 in. M-series iMac to replace my 5 year old Windows PC. However, earlier this year, I figured no 27 in. would be released, so I settled for the M2 Mac mini and 28 in. 4K Samsung display. So far, the setup is nice, but not as clean as an AIO. Nice review! I'm a fan of iMacs. People might think that I'm crazy or perhaps that kind of person who has a psychological disturb that make them to refuse to throw things away, but I would define myself as "a collector of iMacs" (LOL), because I still keep five old iMacs at home and I still use all of them. I do have one 2008 model 24" (the oldest one - by the way it's through it that I've just watched your video and I'm writing this comment now), one 2013 model 21.5", one 2015 model 21.5", another 2017 model 21.5" and one 2019 model 27".
Although all my iMacs are Intels, I just didn't feel attempted to purchase this 2021 new design with the M1 chipset, because since the purchase of my 27" model in 2019, I wanted to buy another 27" display model, so I was hoping that Apple in a near future could release another 27" model with any chipset from this M series, but unfortunately it didn't happen.
But now I feel that with this M3 chipset upgrade, even coming with a 24" display, it seems to be a remarkable upgrade to my 2019 model, so I shall buy one on this next year.
I just would like to mention that as a student of the English language and a lover of the British accent, for me your accent is extremely pleasant to be listening to. I could spend hours and hours listening to you speaking, your accent is very entertaining!

On the matter of amount of RAM, it seems the community is divided. On Monday we will get our pink M3 iMac with 24 GB RAM, 10 core GPU and one TB SSD, while our current iMac M1 gets an inhouse user. The reason for upgrading in our case is that we among other apps use the memory hungry Camtasia for screen casting and producing tutorials and the CEO (my wife;-) has a bad habit of always have at least 100 tabs open in Chrome. I have really tried to convince her to use Safari instead, but so far without any success.

Anyone considering the BASE MODELS of desktops by Apple should just buy the 24’ iMac! Sure, expand the memory, the storage and still it would be cheaper because you get SCREEN, KEYBOARD AND MOUSE ALL IN ONE! Is that not LOGICAL, and SIMPLE?

The All In One computers (not just the iMac) are being replaced by tablets and phones and low-cost laptops, in the normal use of most people. Will the iMac hang around for another generation? Good question. Desktop computers on the whole are not really needed for many people, who will rather use their phone or a tablet. I suspect that given the already small share of Apple revenue that their entire desktop line brings to the corporation, that Apple sees their future in mobile devices, and wearables.

I agree that the new set of Macs is good. However I'm on an M1 14" 16Gb 512k. I didn't; need to upgrade to 1Tb as I have 2 1T usb ssd in cases that plenty fast enough for long time; and a 20Tb NAS.
As The 27" iMac I'm still using, it's been upgraded to 32m and a 2Tb Fusion Drive. Now that all sounds ancient but is has slowly been upgraded to Sonoma 14.1.1 running OCLP 1.2. Superb. No weird glitches and failing. IT If goes totally bang then I prefer a 27' or 32" iMac with me Pro config 32G ram and 2Tb ssd, That'l see me out

I don't think you're touching on the primary point of an iMac - having a large and arguably the best computer screen that does not need an external computer box, nor the extra connecting wires. I use a 16 inch MacBook Pro that's a year old, and although it performs like a rocket, the screen is, in my opinion, too small for my After Effects work and the app's endless tiny function windows. Could I get an external Mac display or a Mac Studio and a display? Sure, but then I'm back to several devices wired together that perform the same function as the 27 inch iMac that I also own.
The issue with the iMac is two-fold: first, they should have stuck with 27 inches. I need that badly - and now. Second, it was foolish to add an M3 chip without greater RAM capacity and high levels of core processing and GPU power. It's coming next year? It should have been here today. Greetings from New York City.

hey - hi there! Yeah, you sound as big a fan of the iMac as I am! I still adore that 27" display - it's gorgeous. This week the M3 chip has seriously impressed me 0- and I tell you what...working on an iMac again, even with the smaller screen, was pure joy. I felt I'd come home if that makes any sense. New video out later today about this subject too. Great to hear from all the way over in NYC...you'll see a Statue Of Liberty prop in today's video funnily enough!

At no point in the presentation for this Mac, nor at the iPhone 15 event did they say they are moving everything to usb c. When you started banging on about a port you have to use once every few months (the cable even comes in the box) I had to turn your video off. People need to get a grip. I suppose people love whinging about trivial stuff these days?

"imacs are 1% of the computers Apple sells. mac minis are 1% of the computers Apple sells." - don't know from where you are getting your numbers. A market research company earlier this year reported that Apple sells *thirteen* iMacs for every Mac Mini. On the whole, desktop computers are no longer a very large share of Apple's revenue. Portable devices (laptops, iPads, and of course iPhones) are much, much more important to Apple.

@@WeThrowPie Sad to hear Mac Mini is only 3% of their sales. It's a great product by Apple for people that want an affordable customized desktop setup.
I get that MacBooks are better sellers for their portable advantage. I'm just surprised Mac Minis were drastically less liked than the iMac. Shows that most consumers really don't want to research and piece by piece shop. They prefer an all-in-one setup even if it costs them more and limits their options.
