I subscribed in July 2023 because of this video. It had me in stitches! To be honest, I'd watched a few of Tony's videos previously... (ones that just randomly popped up in my 'recommended') and I wasn't sure if they were for me. This video and the following ones totally changed my mind! Tony's attitude and approach was so refreshing- was nice to see someone trying different things, seeing for themself and, in a hobby that can get a little obsessed with doing thing 'the proper way', you seemed happy 'breaking' the rules 😅 Tony continued to upload so much in July and August that I never got around to looking through his back catalogue... So, I never saw any of his health announcements until I heard the bad news today. So it came as a bit of a shock.😢 Tony, your love for bonsai, and your love for making these videos right until the end, has absolutely played me like a fiddle. I didn't see it coming... 😭 Rest in peace Tony.
Cheers buddy. I'm really glad that you enjoyed it especially for the humour. Knowing that people are laughing along with us feels better than the thought that people are learning about bonsai to me 😂
when you're bending, bend a tiny bit, let the branch rest a few seconds, then again and repeat, way less likely to crack the back and get a snap that way, as i found out after wrecking one of my favourite trees lol
Love the way you stifle your giggles & stay professional while Rick has lost it, until you can’t hold them in any longer!! Absolutely hilarious, so encouraging for us all ❤😂😂
How ironic, l just watched Eastern Leaf on 3 ways to avoid broken branches 😆😂oh well we all had a good laugh.. my kitten was sleeping on my belly and she was bouncing up and down cause l was laughing so hard ...you guys 🤣🤣🤣
This video was a classic “let’s back into a truck chop”. Excellent spontaneous response to a would be crisis. I am inspired. My experiences similar to this ended with death by a thousand cuts. This tree will rebound with abundant growth. Well done Tony.
Oh my!!! Was laughing and crying so hard, I steamed up my glasses, woke my husband and scared the cat!!! Its all good - its as you say - looks totally natural - these things happen in nature all the time. Nature can't be wrong ... can it???
this is exactly what i love about you guys, bonsai action, dirty and mean, its real. long time since i laughed so hard, a heartly laugh, love to hear you and your dad laughing together! you guys makes my day
😂 oh dear Tony. We have all been there. I snapped a pyracantha this spring and had to cut it back by 2/3 and now it’s beginning to be one of my fav little trees. Like you said it’s all about learning from mistakes. Thanks for the laugh and great vid. 👍
Brilliant tony great to watch and to be honest still think it looks OK reily enjoyed it thanks so much also just started useing your compost mix put a dawn redwood cutting in and a trident maple air layer thanks for your videos learning loads in a good straight forward way all the very best bob
Tony, you're a mad un! There is something ironic in the timing of that . . . um . . . trunk reduction . . . and your own health update. I hope your brother brought you out a glass of wine, too. Looks like a lovely evening in the garden.
Its great to see all aspects and how things can go like this. Had a few breaks myself trying to be over ambitious. Good that you can both have a laugh through it and still make a great tree at the end.
Cheers mate. I've always thought that bonsai is supposed to be fun, and even when it doesn't quite go according to plan, it's always better to laugh about it I reckon 😂
i just snapped a few branches trying a cascade style the other day too! haha. win some. re grow some..thanks tony and crew/family. wish we had more hawthrons around my area. love the leaf shape.almost like a ginko. ive had my eye out for a while for both
That was one of your best Tony, the vet tape may have helped but i think the taper in that trunk will be great in short time as i know you'll let the leader run. Had a great laugh along with both of you and really enjoyed this video. Cheers Guys. Ouch..i hope your shoulder feels better soon mate.
I have definitely had a couple of bad cracks but I you have definitely trunped me with that one Tony! The real funny thing for me was right at the beginning I was hoping you would go for the branch you 'ended up' going with for the cascade. The angle with the trunk was much better and it was going to be alot easier to bend...as your brother demonstrated so well. I don't think you need to change that potting angle much and if you really want the traditonal cascade then bend the growth back down so you can form some pads next year. This was perfect with my coco pops. Broken bones make a similiar noise when they crack :)
I was giggling along with your brother and the more I heard him laugh, the more I was laughing 😂 We all have such a tree that almost everything went wrong with it while trying to style it. I hope your collar bone heals quickly.
Perhaps you should have called this video "My brother and I having a crack". I was waiting for the first crack like a dog waits for a bone. Very entertaining. Take care Tony.
Tony’s Torture Techniques😂😂😂 Dishonourable Mention: The Iron Maiden. 7: The Rack. The rack is the classic torture tool of the Spanish Inquisition. ... 6: The Thumb Screw. Your what's known as a cracker in more ways than one Tony tree and collar bone cracked 😂 great to see you using your left arm in some way, after breaking the branch twice, looks as though it is styling itself, happy accident again mate. You don't need our advice it's coming along nicely now as a cascade come windswept a decision for the future what comes next. Great to see your brother helping out and you both having a good laugh at the same time. All good mate.
Too funny, now would it be best to change the planting angle completely the other way? Glad to see you are still posting and that sense of humour unchanged :)
I'm in bits, never mind the tree! Comedy gold 😂
🤣🤣 great comment. Love it! 🤣🤣
This has to be one of your maddest videos yet, love the way you giggle when things go wrong, made me laugh
Cheers Brian. It was a pretty mad one I agree mate 🤣

This video was a gift that kept on giving. I must have wet myself 10 times laughing.
🤣🤣 brilliant! Nothing better than a good laugh, so I'm very happy to hear that you enjoyed it 🙂
@@TonysBonsai Ah mate, it was one of those crying type laughs. Followed by another and then by another one that I had to stop wee from coming out.
Baggsy NOT having that one!! 🤣 X x great video 💙
"Looking good! " .. had me rolling on the floor.
Come on, stop now, both of you, this is serious 😂😂😂
🤣🤣 looking good was the funniest bit for me too mate. That had me howling 🤣
Hilarious mate! You produced what Houghton Bonsai would call a shile of pite and then kind of rescued it. Real life bonsai. Love it.
🤣🤣 shile of pite, its catching on
🤣🤣I'm going to try to remember that one
Hope that shoulder heals soon 👍
Cheers Deepanjan I doubt It will have time to heal, but I'm not in much pain with it, so that's fine with me
That was a priceless Tony video, bends, cracks, chops & loads of chuckles...well done!
😂😂 ❤

Good advice thank you. I'll try to incorporate that technique next time 🙂
4:29 when a cracked tree makes you crack enough to drop the F-bomb 🤣😆🤣🤣
🤣🤣 I hadn't realised that. I'm off to check that out cheers mate.. love the odd impromptu F bomb
Love the way you stifle your giggles & stay professional while Rick has lost it, until you can’t hold them in any longer!! Absolutely hilarious, so encouraging for us all ❤😂😂
Cheers mate. Sounds like a good balance to me. I'll go with professionalish 🤣

😹😹 I'm sure that had I used vet tape I could have avoided those breaks, but it was such a laugh I think it was worth it 🤣
@@TonysBonsai well l loved it 😹
Really enjoyed that one Tony, cracked me up 😂😂
Thanks Raymond. I'm glad you had a laugh mate we were in stitches making this one 😂
When your day isn't going well, you can always come back and watch again 😂😂
😂😂 yeah definitely a video makes me smile that's for sure 😂

Cheers mate. I think we were both in the mood for having a laugh, and the Bonsai was almost secondary. Mission accomplished 😂😂
😂 "that's looks mint that" brilliant video, comedy duo 👍
Rick's a funny guy on the quiet 🤣
Cracking video Tony. ( Sorry I'll get my coat) 😁
You can collect it in the pun hall of shame mate 🤣🤣

Glad you enjoyed it Dan. Nothing is as good as having a proper laugh. We we're howling filming it 🤣
I was enjoying this so much😂... makes me feel so much better about my snappy bends😂😂😂😂
Thanks Angelo. We all snap the odd branch mate the key is to learn and if possible laugh about it 🤣
😂 oh dear Tony. We have all been there. I snapped a pyracantha this spring and had to cut it back by 2/3 and now it’s beginning to be one of my fav little trees. Like you said it’s all about learning from mistakes. Thanks for the laugh and great vid. 👍
Cheers Andrew. sometimes these accidents work out better than what we could plan anyway. Nature knows best in general I find
That was too good, i had to watch it again...just as funny the second time 🤣
Cheers Russell. Glad you enjoyed it buddy. Even though I was in it, I was laughing myself watching 🤣

High risk, high reward, and some great fun in the offing.
That was brilliant Tony ! I haven't laughed so hard all week. Good video good content. The tree will live I'm shure with better taper for the future
Thanks for that. Giving someone a good laugh means more to me than passing on some average quality bonsai advice!🤣 really glad that you enjoyed it

It was indeed a lovely evening, but I leave the wine to Rick as he's a lot better at drinking than me. I'd be a lightweight nowadays
i heard that BOOM from way over here in the US! 😂 i think it would have survived after the 3rd crack but after that it was a wrap😂 good times

i half expected "this was my plan the whole time" or "well trees break in nature too, it's just hyper realistic"
Thanks Tony, I had a great laugh watching this. Your brother has a great feel for branch strength!
What a cracking job!😂
Hahaha I was laughing and crying so hard my tummy was painning you made my day 😂 thank you

brilliant. so funny
Good work🎉subscribed
Thanks for the support. Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
The dreaded “ crack”... my pine tree didn’t like it...and failed to proceed. I kept the pot🙃
They don't work out Tony. But if at first you don't succeed....
Too funny, now would it be best to change the planting angle completely the other way? Glad to see you are still posting and that sense of humour unchanged :)
I did take a quick look at the planting angle, and it's something that I'll probably revisit when it eventually goes into a pot
I brake stuff all the time, most of it I fix it with grafting tape and a closely rapped wire
👍👌🙂
That’s a cascade ,windswept ,and raft all in one.gteat video.
