Your photograph of the lightning is stunning!!
Thanks.
I'm an amateur street photographer (film). Been doing it for 30-odd years on and off. I find that if I am out with a smallish, discreet camera, I have no issues, even with street photography (photographing people). If I have a largish camera, as you say, it's more prominent and you get jumpy people, but still few problems arise. This problem has always existed, and I've always taken it in my stride with no big problems or dramas; but I worry that "auditing" is having a 'poisoning the well' effect and making things worse. Some people (on both sides) have a narcissistic frame of mind and enjoy being the 'star' of their own little drama.
Thanks for seeing me and saying I had a nice van, just moved here and I see you within 2 days lol nice to see you and it’s because of you promoting Blackpool we decided to move here with all your help and knowledge of the place thanks and keep up the good work 👌🤙🏽
Keep doing what you are doing Stephen. The king of Blackpool videos
Bloody good lightening photo Stephen!
Thanks Jacqueline 🙏
You hit the nail on the head Stephen. Ask first if you get the feeling someone or an organisation are jumpy. The other thing I've felt that helps when vlogging is where as I do a sweatshirt showing your a youtube vlogger. Fleetwood is much smaller and less high profile than Blackpool so I always feel there's more curiosity here than concern. Informative as always Stephen
Great suggestion on using your Vloggger merc,eg.., T-Shirt whilst filming
You must admit that camera does look like it could be an improvised rocket launcher.
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Stephen showing off his big one, oo-er, missis. What gets me is people seemingly photographing everything like their food and of course there is instant replay. My dad was a great photographer but he wasn't always taking pictures, just a few scenic shots although when I came to sort out his colour slides there were loads of clouds or trees against the sky, birds, flowers etc.
as autistic guy find all the humans and their moods vs vainity - confusing, sensitive of people with cameras like OPs taking pictures ( lot time innocent ) but many say don't batter an eye lid if people around them use smart mobiles or themselves taking lot of shots of themselves - often uploading their %%^%^ on to social media. They even allow their children (seen some young as 4) using Smart mobiles, even though they are too young to use them or not safe with them, e.g., headaches / eye strain over use, risk of tripping, etc
I love your photo of the Blackpool tower with the lightning😊it's amazing!
Glad you like it!
Thanks Stephen. I can honestly say I have been taking photos with zoom lenses for well over forty years and I have never had any problems. I was taking photos once and had a visit from the police as the subject (military) was deemed to be of a sensitive nature, but once I explained my reasons to the officer he was satisfied I was not a security risk and wished me a good day. But apart from that I have never been approached by anyone or asked not to take pictures, and that is across 8 countries including the UK.
Thanks Stephen thanks for another great informative video take care and have a nice evening 😊
You can take pictures and film anywhere in Blackpool so great video Stephen
Yes in public spot on but On Private property like Pier, Rail station, Pleasure Beach Park ( if we could afford the excessive entry fee) you are on their land, sign up to their T&C's (merely being on their land ) and they have right to object within reason to acts they deem unsavoury / going against their wishes, or lot of venues now don't like Bloggers / Photographers may be making money of their assets within their land / view points, e.g., On North Pier looking out to Lake District (in distance) - probably knock sales of their post cards of same view, etc.
Blackpool North station has always been really awful for rail enthusiasts they are famous.
Yes it's not just photos, they drive you off the platform as fast as possible despite the overriding Network Rail guidelines.
I've never been on there to take a photo of a train, ever.
@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool They'd have a right hissy fit if you pulled out that gorgeous Nikon. Does the white tape on the lens hood serve a purpose ? Does it contribute to your excellent photos of sunsets (and that magnificent lightning montage) ?
@@Grid56 Can’t remember what the white tape was for, but it didn’t come off.
@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool Well it must work. Keep up the good work, you definitely deserve your awards. 👍❤️ .
this is why I have to be careful choosing my photography weapon of choice. I have the usual phone cameras (now with a lavelier mic because I can), 2 identical camcorders because one was for filming local events and when I had the money to do so, I bought myself an identical model for keeping the format the same, a 4k camera with hotshoe mic port which people get nervous about because of the mic, a couple of handydandy bridge cameras - because, why not? and two bodycams because sometimes, the less people see, the better.
yet, nobody bats an eyelid until you weild out the 'big gear' and suddenly, everyone thinks you're filming just them and start acting weirdly enough to draw attention and everyone films them and because it's a phone, nobody bats an eyelid......................................................
yup - people are weird!!
which is why I prefer to be behind the camera. it makes an awesome mask 😀
some of the stuff on my own channel comes from local events where I was invited along to get 'snap happy' and all that good stuff. I've got form for being something of a local 'digital archivist' and it's paying off at long last! everyone focusses on themselves, their kids, their families, the stuff they buy/win/eat/drink - I'm there to document the event - who was there, anything amusing, the weather, and just like yourself - the things that go on that, if you weren't there to document it, who would?
Like the beer monster from last year who thought I was filming him, not photographing the lightning storm going on.
We love your films Stephen, your camera must be amazing...It's always has brilliant colours....
@@mikehudson8884 Thanks Mike 🙏
Thanks for this video very helpful tips thank for sharing your experience much appreciated mate
No probs pal.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool hope your keeping good buddy
Hi Stephen thank you for another great video as always it must be very frustrating sometimes if you get stopped when your filming yes places like coral Island always best to get permission I love taking photos when I go on holiday its part of it something to look back on have a great evening xx
You can legally take photos or video of anything or anyone from a publicly accessible area
Now a shopping centre is private property so they can object, although if you use a camera phone it shouldn't be an issue
Just not if it involves children I'd suppose
@@Josh-c9v technically it's still legal in a public place.
However I can't see any sane person deliberately doing so.
Now if a child happens to be in your photo then so be it
We've got to get away from thinking people are up to no good, the majority aren't
@@JLPCORR I wasn't saying alot of people are just asking and saying that you'll have some weirdos
Same use case with mobile but mobile use doesn't even get a look in by Mr Security and Cop Shop Guard
@@JLPCORR I would say to your comment yes a shopping centre is privately owned but it's publicly accessible so photography there is allowed or should be ,legally then they can ask you to leave which turns it into trespass if you refuse
Thanks Stephen. Useful information video this. Much appreciated . Never really considered it before😮😊
Before smartphones everyone had a proper camera when they went on holiday and no one batted and eyelid at them.
That is true.
spot on
Another fab video stephen. Thanks for all your hard work
What a picture of the lighting Steve that's awesome ❤
Thanks Warren
A good information & advice video well done 👍👍
In 54 years of taking pics and video I've never encountered a problem. I've never used a phone to take pics etc - always a camera. I must be very lucky LOL . And I've taken a lot of video and before video did a lot of 8mm cine film.
North Pier there used to be a sign, might still be there on the left as you go on,saying commercial photography is not allowed.Assume they think a tripod and “proper” camera is for professional use.I used to get hassled with youngsters around the comedy carpet if I used my tripod “What you doing ? “ or “take my photo “ etc 🤦♂️
I'll show the sign on a video next time I'm up that way. That's considering they will let me film it!!
sadly, these are the days when you cant say or do what you like anymore, it makes me feel awkward with a camera! and you can make just as much trouble with a mobile, as you say its in the world in seconds and shared!! deep sighs
I managed some photos of the RLD in Amsterdam, but it was with a hidden camera.
thanks Stephen for another great video
I think the main issue now is how much stuff is privately owned ( for example the piers in Blackpool) the owners just do what they want. Some good advice there though. X
Great video Steven good pic of the lightening👍
Thanks for another interesting video. I have a few stories too. Once, I went to photograph an event in Mersey Square, Stockport, with an already old Canon DSLR (10 megapixel). I hadn’t realised that Mersey Square (the main shopping area in Stockport centre) is an fact a ‘private place'. Security soon descended on me - politely, I add. They said I’d need to get a press pass from the property office. Which I did, with no difficulty. Chatting with the manager, I asked why I was singled out when there were hundreds of people using phones, some of them quite high-end. She replied that there were so many that they couldn’t stop them and were probably just for home consumption but it was easy to spot a ‘professional camera' like mine.
Incidentally, the camera I had was aimed at the amateur market and I was taking photos for a personal project.
Interesting. Salford Quays & Media City is all private too, so strictly speaking you are not allowed to take pictures there.
You must be in my neck of the woods. Ive had problems with Stockport Shopping Centre. My experience was 20 years ago when I was a member of the Stockport Photographic Society.
@@yutman4532 I remember the olden days when I was a member of LSAPS (lytham) and the first digital cameras appeared. I believe it was a Polaroid that a guy brought in. It was very expensive & had now screen. I think it took 0.3 megapixel photos.
Great DSLR's from Canon, remembering having a 400D at time; great cameras from Canon & Nikon - I may have had a D200 after that 10.0 MP also; poor battery life, image quality good up to 400 ISO. Now undecided on my photo / video plans, e.g., equipment, etc Smart mobiles, tablets, camera, etc - have to wing it as I go.
Hey Stephen Brilliant filming that you do really enjoy the channel. Your camera work is excellent and i especially like your vids of the sun sets on the promenade there stunning hoping to visit blackpool in October and never been .
Thanks Liam.
When I was a kiddo my dad had a fabulous collection of Canon cameras and accessories, I think he had 20 different kinds, for the life of me I can't remember what models they were, but they were advanced for their time (around the early 1990s). He also had around 5 different JVC and Sony tape camcorders, and he would lug all this equipment as he needed it everywhere around the country, and parts of Europe. The only worries he had was constantly having to keep an eye on it all to stop it getting stolen. Several attempts were made, especially in places like Italy. He took tremendous footage and photos of different events. Fast forward my dad died 4 years ago, and I've no idea where all his equipment and collections went, other than I heard he sold it all. God knows what the value would have been of it all
Thank you Steve. That is extremely useful information.
You top fan Gary in Skegness.
Thanks Gary
Very informative Stephen. Great little video. Thank you
Hi Stephen, lovely sunshine here now, been very muggy and cloudy today, no rain. Have a great evening thanks 😊
Hi Hazel.
Good Morning Stephen. Hope you are Well. One thing i have always wondered, when you are allowed to take Photo's in the Public. I really like your Professional Photograph of the Forks of Lighting over Blackpool. You do have a very High Quality DSLR Zoom Camera Stephen. Your Photography and Video-ography is Excellent Skill and Ability. I am sure, that if your very Politely and showed Courteousy, i am sure the People or Place would not mind you either Taking Photographs or Filming. It really is Incredible what you can do on a Smart Phone. Thank you very much Stephen for Sharing your Personal insider Information about Taking Photographs and Filming.
Thanks Jonathan 🙏
Silcock's also don't like it. I was stood in front of a security woman in there a couple of years ago with my D700/50mm (no recording capability), and took a closeup of some 2ps in one of the pushers. She said nothing until I had composed and taken the shot, then in a very rude tone "There's no filming in here!"
I know Scott (Your Experience Guide) has also been told off for filming work on the Big One out of season from the public promenade. People are ignorant and obnoxious about it, but it definitely feels like it's getting worse.
Love watching your videos Blackpool is my favourite place in the world
Enjoyed your video. I was only about five minutes from you as I am staying at the Hilton. Cannot recall your van but did see the large white van behind you. Like the logo on your shirt. My favourite brand of clothing.
Thanks.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpoolCan you help? Being in an upgraded room at the Hilton, full window on the front, I noted nearly every time the tide went out, a man with a spade and bucket digging in the sand. What is he after? Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi Stephen thanks for the information, until the next one...
You’re welcome to fill with us, anytime ! Best M
Ok, will come and have a look sometime Mark.
Great advice. These things are good to know
Glad it was helpful!
You'd be surprised how much hassle I get filming with all different devices. I've been talking about this recently as things have definitely changed. I've even had to buy smart glasses.
Some places allow photo but not tripods, simple reason if someone trips over your tripod who is held liable?
Good point though, of course another reason some places don't like photography is because they don't want people to see its not worth the admission fee.
Interesting talk.
Cheers.
It's where kids are about that is why they do not like filming in certain areas also you become suspect of planning something or doing something, the world has gone mad.
Plenty of CCTV to monitor people's movements these days and to track them by advanced Security Systems, e.g., Face tracking, AI, etc; with all this ^%%^%^ didn't stop / prevent 7/7, Manchester bombing, lone wolf attacks, etc
I understand you are a professional photographer so you should be aware that you should always get permission before filming or taking photos on private property
Another good vlog Stephen. You never fail to deliver. Also in this day and age i think place well some especially coral island are protecting kid's from being filmed because it does happen but not always on purpose. At least when it's recorded videos you can edit things out keep up the good work 😊👍
Okay with that sort of safe guarding but should be universal rules. See plenty of punters in private shopping centres (also like in Coral Island) of Mums / Dads, etc as example taking mobile content with their mobiles blogging about themselves, also taking content of their own children as example on rides but (unintentionally) will include other parties
Yeah I film my blogs on my phone but I struggle to edit 😅 but practice makes perfect.
That was interesting Stephen. I only ever take pictures with my smart phone and before that a bog standard camera. Well done..
I think that the issue is that when you get a professional type camera out and a tripod they assume that you are doing it for gain rather than your own enjoyment so don’t like it.
They want you to ask so that if they choose they can charge you a licence fee.
I got asked to stop taking photos on my phone once in a shopping centre at Christmas. There were signs up saying no photos but Ihadn’t seen them and didn’t see an issue anyway.
The problem with filming is the owners of the place where you are. Some locations (St Pancras Station in London springs to mind) charge a fee for filming. And it's not cheap either! It can be hundreds and sometimes thousands of pounds just for a few hours.
My personal take on it would be filming is publicity and when you have a business publicity is generally a good thing. So it's in a place's interests (particularly a tourist venue) to actively encourage filming.
In those places you're not allowed to film, it makes me wonder what they're scared of your camera capturing?
I think you are right about “proper”. I feel the powers that be see the equipment and assume you will be making money from the images you take of “their” property/view. I don’t think that’s a problem, but then I don’t own a pier or arcade. (If I did, I still wouldn’t mind people taking photos!)
Thanks for another informative vlog Stephen i hope you are well 👍
Thanks George.
I've always liked photography but only really of landscape and sea mountains ⛰️ but thanks for sharing Stephen 👍
I wont film in Coral Island even with a mobile as security was on me in mins and forced to take video off.this was few years ago. Best ask before you get into bother as well the public not happy either. I do photos for my Google's maps review last weekend in Newcastle and security later was on me and had to leave the pub.
I can say as someone who is qualified in photography that lightning shot is incredible 😱
@@NixFlix_ Thanks 🙏
Thank you Stephen I enjoyed your interesting video ❤
Wonderful video Stephen, got chased out of an outdoors mall in Norwich back in 2016 for taking pictures with a small pocket camera. They wanted to confiscate it but i just left instead. Stay safe and keep em coming.
Thanks Daniel. don’t think they would have been allowed to take the camera off you.
One of my best friends since School is an amazing photographer , Patrick Baldwin..based in Stratford upon avon......i'm so proud of my good friend.
Very interesting experience Stephen. It would be interesting to know the official position of North Pier, Hounds Hill Car Park and Coral Island towards filming. Do they have training for their security staff to ensure company policy is implemented? There is an obvious suspicion that temporary seasonal staff on zero hours contracts see it as an opportunity to behave like Mr Big
Very informative and thank you.
I’ve been taking pictures for years like yourself Stephen using a 35mm SLR or compact camera. It’s only more recently I’ve started doing video, (although I did do some hi-8mm video stuff late 90s early 00s using a Sony V6000 camcorder), monster of a thing compared to cameras today. I do have a small UA-cam channel for occasional filming and a larger one on my TikTok and I’ve generally found no problems filming anywhere. National Trust properties are fairly strict if I recall and so are certain mainline railway stations.
Hi Stephen, yes I know coral island and the pier don't allow filming when we were up there couple years ago .

Some good points. We have the same at Birmingham City Centre. It is all private and the same applies with phones, you can sneak some shots using them but the second a large camera appears security are on you like a ton of bricks. However, you can apply (and it is normally allowed) for a permit to film in the area at a specific time/date, but, (the main point being) the normal everyday shopper/visitor is not aware of the fact it is private and I have heard a few tales of encounters between photographers and the security mob. My normal policy is that if a place is private, game over I will not take a single shot unless something has been pre-arranged. At times I have been contacted by land/business owners asking if I took some photo's could I send them copies, er NO. They do not exist and if they did I would charge for them. It is a very grey area but I try to find if a place is private, if so and if I cannot avoid it I try to contact whoever is in charge to get permission/permit/pass etc prior to going.
Good points there Rik.
Thanks for the vidio north pier is stricked on there not allowed to film in Blackpool amusements love your fiming and photos hopefully not too may problems
Great Video Steve I Enjoyed It Do They Let You Take Pictures In Tower ballroom?😊 Have A Great night 😊
Nice one my Dude. I actually checked with the police - and they said i could film in public, but yeah, your right, some shops get funny about it, which i think is strange cos the Security officers round here in the shops have them.
So many security cameras everywhere recording 24/7 and some people get a bit jumpy about the odd person taking pics.

The problem is there are too many jobsworths these days Stephen and they spoil it for all of us. Why do you need permission for a tripod and who the heck do you get the permission off? I understand why with some of the rides but surely a picture is a picture whither it's taken by a camera on a tripod or iPhone. Worlds gone mad. Thank you for the video and your time Stephen.👍😊😊

So privacy is not important. Right
@@johnallan4826 You sound like you would make a good security guard.
Hi Steve, just to say you can video or take pictures anywhere in public access, there policies are irrelevant only to them not you ,but obviously not on the rides.its a civil matter so even the police cannot say anything 😊
I remember when I was looking at cameras, in the Jessops shop in the Trafford Centre. The sales dude and I would take a camera outside, to test by taking a photo of the mall.
Along comes Mr Security. "You can't use cameras in here. I'm going to have to confiscate it."
Literally, right outside the camera shop. We just laughed at him and went back inside. He waited around outside for a while talking to someone on his radio, then wandered off himself.
This would have been around 2009, and I decided on a Nikon, thus starting my love affair with Nikon cameras.
Nice one. My first SLR was a Russian Zenit-E. That was followed by a Minolta XG9 before stepping up to Nikon in the early 90's with an F-801 bought from Abbey Photographic on Clifton St in Blackpool, now sadly long gone, just like the rest of the camera shops.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool A Zenit! I have a Zenit 3M that was my Great Grandpa's.

@@yutman4532 If I remember correctly, it came with a Helios 58mm f2 lens which gave a really nice bokeh effect for portraits.
Good issue / bad issue unsure of law in this regard ( private property) can't physically take your equipment without but they possibly have right to march the innocent bod off the premises or to security guard house / office before the Cop shop arrive. Interesting whether Security Gadger who do the same with the 999's of members of the public who take photos, themselve blogging with their smart mobiles - extremely unlikely
Thanks Stephen. Very interesting. Fortunately I've never had a problem when using 35mm bodies and lenses.......yet !
That is some photo of the lightening just stunning
Thanks.
I can understand not permitting tripods in some areas as they could be seen as a trip hazard. For some reason however, SLR cameras say "professional photographer" and they don't want to be seen supporting commercial activities. The legality is if you are private property on areas such like the piers, although a lot of "auditors" on UA-cam seem to want to attract interest for views. You are a professional photographer with a rather good UA-cam channel so are not in the business of causing annoyance.
From a professional point of view, as a Chartered Surveyor I have to take lots of photos of buildings and property, but I always confirm I can and that I won't capture anyone's face or any other personal data for GDPR. Saying that, some sites to not permit photos for security reasons so I have to state this in the report and general have to write more words to describe what I've seen.
Gosh, I spent a lot of time on North Pier taking photographs, but that was almost quarter of a century ago. I'd imagine that filming in the cinema at the tower would be difficult as It's 3D.
security risk daft as it may seem especially with what is going on these days

I've often wondered what the issues are using a Tripod on the Prom, I guess you'd need Public Liability Insurance. That said, there's more chance of getting hit by Cyclists who go way too fast.
No problem with a tripod on the prom.
Probably view the OP / Other instances of People with Tripod & Camera as commercial photographers earning $$ and possibly taking $$ away from them, eg.., Postcards of Blackpool, lake district ( taken from N-Pier) images in the North Pier Shop )
They must be worried about what you could capture on a big camera.
