  • Last year I had a go at using nail foils in resin and the results were lovely even though things didn't necessarily go smoothly! Since then I've been using leftover resin in my pendant moulds to create a bunch of things I could use to make a video of me trying it again. A couple of them have some stunning iridescent pigment powder in them which I thought would make a gorgeous background to some of the foils. I am so in love with the results, especially in the sunlight this morning!
    Materials used (All from Amazon):
    Makartt nail art foil glue
    3 assorted packs of nail foils
    UV nail lamp
    JDiction UV resin for topcoating
    Microbrush
    Music:
    His Last Share of the Stars from Doctor Turtle, from the built-in music library on Move Maker
    Video filmed on a Fairphone 4
    At the end of the video I explain the horrendous scare we had with our cat Slinky. He is completely recovered now and it's like nothing happened but the whole experience was one of the scariest things we've been through. We've both done first aid training and learned how to do CPR but you never expect that you'll actually need to use it, especially not on your own cat! When he started breathing again and he arrived at the vet, he had gone partly blind and they said it was due to oxygen deprivation and that it may or may not be temporary. Thankfully it was temporary and he is seeing normally again. Don't do that to us again please Slinkster!

    I'm so glad you were able to revive poor Slinky. That must have been very distressing, especially after your recent fur baby loss ❤ I'm sure Slinky will thrive with all the extra love and fuss.
    Your pendants are stunningly gorgeous, I love them all and the skull made me laugh. That holographic powder is my ultimate favourite! I use it as much as possible, and find it mesmerising. I felt like screaming the other week, as I spilled my full tub and it was unsalvageable, talk about gutted! It looks fantastic with foils over it. I hadn't thought of that, and i will definitely try it. Great tutorial, thank you x ❤

      Thanks so much. That pigment is absolutely stunning but it cost me about £5 for a tiny pot with hardly anything in it, and it's such an annoying shape that I've almost dropped the whole thing several times. I need to decant it into a spare screw top jar or something because I can see that I'm going to lose the lot before long and I too would be gutted!

    They’re gorgeous! Sorry about Slinky. Glad he’s better. Funny, my cat is 14 and when she’s been sleeping a long time I look to see if her belly is moving to see if she’s still breathing.

      Thank you so much. When we check on Slinky he keeps opening one eye and giving us the "could you please just not, some of us are trying to sleep" look! LOL!

    Aw poor wee cat! I'm so glad you were there and your quick thinking saved his life. I can only imagine the fright you would've got. Love those pendants, I'm definitely going to try that technique. Thanks, fiona x

      Thank you so much Fiona. Yeah, Slinky certainly gave up one hell of a fright last week! Good luck when you try this technique. With the quantity of different designs you get in a pack of nail foils, there are infinite possibilities!

    Great job! I’ve just started attempting to do this. Mine have been mostly Meh. Thank you for showing this to us. ❤. I’m so sorry your sweet cat had health scare. I’m thankful he’s back to normal. I love black cats. They are extra sweet!

      Thanks for watching :) I got a new UV lamp for Christmas so I'm hoping it will give me better results. I'm looking forward to playing again :) Since this video went out, our cat Slinky went missing. He vanished one night in June and we've never seen him again. On top of that our 7yr old cat Mono died suddenly on Christmas Day so we lost three of our cats in under a year. It's been a lot to deal with :( I'm thankful that we still have two cats otherwise I'd be so lost!

      @ I’m so sorry about your sweet cats. I’ve had cats run outside and not make it back, too. It’s so sad and scary. I know you are treasuring the two you have. 😢🙏

    Gorgeous pendants Mary, there's so many possibilites with the nail foils. The colour changing backgrounds looked great in the sun. Wow, I'm sorry you had that scare with Slinky cat, very happy that he got better again. Perhaps he ate something bad outside. He's a special one, give him some extra Dreamies from me! 🐈‍⬛

      Thanks so much Peter. Slinky is still getting ALL of the cuddles and I gave him extra Dreamies from you :) He is at the end of the video that went live this evening and Mono was being an absolute tart in that video as well so I think you'll enjoy it!

    I'm so glad you were able to save your kitty baby. Pets mean so much to us, and they are such an important part of our lives.❤❤❤. I want to thank you for sharing how to use foils. I am going to go back and try to find the video you mentioned in this one. Last year, I bought foils from Temu, and I have no idea how to use them. I thought they were just a peel and stick kind of thing. 😂. Much to my dismay, I found out I was wrong! 😂 So again, thank you for sharing this information with us all. ❤❤❤ So glad your kitty is OK

      Thanks so much Christine. I added a card to the previous video so it should have popped up on the screen during my intro to this one. Thanks for your kind comments about our furbabies. Slinky certainly put us through the ringer last week but it's honestly like nothing ever happened. I am finally starting to let him sleep in peace but we can't help but check he is still breathing. We have both done first aid training, but never expected to actually have to use it, especially not on our cat!

      So glad to have helped. I'm not an expert by any means but I love to share what does and doesn't work for me in the hope that it will help others. I hope I get a new UV nail lamp for Christmas because mine isn't great and I think that's partly why I struggle getting a decent topcoat!

    I’ve tried the nail foils with little success. Will the clear coat you use for dip nails work to hold it on? Also, so glad Slinky is okay. I had a similar fright a long time ago when my Ebony had a seizure. They are part of our family and supervisors of our hobbies. ❤ ~Randi

      I haven't actually ever done any kind of nail art so my only experience with foils is using this UV nail glue. I think you can use any UV product designed for nail use and I think you're supposed to part cure it so it grips onto the foils. I can't get that right so I now just put the UV nail stuff on and lay the foil over it wet then cure it under my lamp. I've had more success doing that but it's not perfect every time. I really need a better UV lamp!
      Thanks so much for your comment about Slinky. In June we went away for one night, and a friend fed the cats for us. Slinky wasn't here when we got home and there hasn't been a single sighting of him anywhere in our area since then. It's like he vanished into thin air :( People are still keeping an eye out for us and we hope he just walks back in the door one day but it's looking unlikely after so much time. Just to make matters worse we lost our 7 year old calico cat, Mono, on Christmas Day. She suddenly collapsed and died on Mark's lap as I raced us to the vets. We're still struggling to take in the fact we went from 5 cats to 2 cats in under a year :(

    I would love to see a video where you sand down and polish items where things went wrong… I have ever so many items that stuck to the cardboard (very bad idea!! to put underneath) or the UV resin and also the ones with epixy resin ean down the edges and destroyed the bottom side….I must say, I (you) do need patience for this hobby, don‘t you agree?

    • @marymcintyresfxartcraft7417
      @marymcintyresfxartcraft7417  Місяць тому

      I have a huge box of UV resin pieces that went wrong so I should look at ways to fix them because I hate waste (it's why I've kept them all!). I don't have a great success rate with anything that involves UV resin and I don't know if it's the lamp I have not being up to scratch. I use reputable brands of UV resin but it makes no difference. You definitely do need the patience of a saint

    Is that clear Uv nail gel? I’ve tried with a thin layer of Uv resin but didn’t work. I watched others do it that way but not working for me

    • @marymcintyresfxartcraft7417
      @marymcintyresfxartcraft7417  5 місяців тому

      I've had issues using the normal UV resin but I've found that the UV nail gel worked better for me. It has its own brush and I just add a thin coat of the gel and I actually apply the foils before curing now because it works better for me. My UV lamp isn't brilliant and with the nail foils and some of the nail powders, you need to cure it just the right amount otherwise the powders or foils won't stick properly. If it's too wet it doesn't work, it it's too well cured it doesn't work. I guess if you're using the same products and same lamp all day long in a nail salon you will know exactly what to do but I haven't figured all of that out with my lamp. I just found curing after applying the foil was better. I hope that works for you
