Fujian 35mm f1.7 C Mount lens review (GH4)

- This is my review of the Fujian 35mm f1.7 C Mount lens, tested on the Panasonic Gh4 and Blackmagic Pocket cinema Camera. THIS LENS WILL NOT WORK ON APS-C SENSORS. THAT MEANS IS WILL NOT WORK ON SONY A6000, A6300, A6500, OR ANY CANON CAMERA. IT WILL ALSO ONLY WORK ON MICRO 4/3 CAMERAS IF THEY ARE SET IN CROP MODE.

Just a tip for users of this lens - when fitting your lens, screw it into the adapter first, then fix the adapter to the camera. BTW it's awesome!
The front threads for a step-up ring is 35mm. I found a 35-37mm step-up ring on Amazon. Then, I step-up from 37mm on my Canon M50.
Hey hey! Love your videos. Just wanted to let you know I have the 25mm, 35mm, and 50mm Fujian, and I’m in the process of trying to kinda sorta cine-mod them. Really wanted to use variable ND on these guys to shoot wide open outside in daylight. At first I thought the 25mm had no threading on the lens, but eventually discovered it had 30mm threading. I used a 30-37mm step up ring and a 37mm variable ND (I bought that for that LUMIX 14-42 pancake zoom), finally shot with the variable ND on the 25mm outside yesterday, and the footage is glorious. You can really achieve super shallow depth of field with this guy on the BMPCC OG. Obviously these are cheap and flawed lenses, but they have so much character and style, and since the BMPCC OG prioritizes character over technical perfection, they work so well together.
…just wanted to add that I know this vid was uploaded 8 years ago, but detailed intelligent lens reviews live forever on UA-cam ❤️🔥
To add a filter just buy a lens hood for the lens. They often have a wider thread and offer better contrast as well
Just ordered both the 25 and 35mm versions of these lenses from Amazon for £42.98 as they both come with the M43 adapter and macro rings. For this price it seems silly not to pick both of them up to have a play with. I don't really shoot much video but I'm buying them to mess about with on my GX80. Great review, cheers.
I would highly recommend the 50mm as well, it is the sharpest and cleanest of the bunch with minimal flaring. :)
Came for the review, stayed for the dog. What an absolutely beautiful animal! Good job on the review too :)
Yeh Pablo is a good doggo, spoiled rotten but he listens lol
Catching up with your review 2 years on, as I've just bought one of these lens, costing a mere £18, with adaptor and macro rings. Yet to shoot with it, but from 1st look, I agree the optics and build quality is great for a lens costing the same as a few coffees. Almost 'to good' as I thought it might have a holga softness! I'm hoping it'll make an interesting portrait lens, given the simple coatings, centre sharpness and edge softness.
Very very very nice video man. Great footage for the review. Great use of the lens. I think I know which lens I'm leaning to for my 35mm option. What's the filter thread size and would a step up ring help? That could be the fix for it.
RiNus World i am not sure off the top of my head but i can confirm that it does have a proper filter thread for a lens hood which i would suggest you get to help with the flaring. The hood also has a filter thread and a proper lens cap
@@DanielNorrisEffects that's a plan. I'll check that option out.
Very nice results .. Just ordered this lens earlier for ... Cheap.. Looking forward to some testing..
Great review, this was my first lens on the bmpcc, I enjoyed using it at the time as it was so cheap. I might have to dig it out again as the footage looks great, My wife has a G7 so might give some filming a try!
Goo for it :)
Good stuff. I really should dig mine out. Haven't used it beyond testing it when I first got it.
By way I'm testing the syrp genie mini at the moment.
Pretty cool device. (Little pricey for what it is though)
Will upload a review/ tests soon.
+biscuitsalive oof, that is pricey for an egg timer :/ look forward to you review, glad you liked mine. :)
+Daniel Norris you can use it for live action video shots too. So but more to it than your normal time lapse egg timer. But yes could stand to be a bit less dosh.
Great review Daniel!
Just got mine yesterday, and the BOKEH is just incredible. It's a bitch focusing manually but the image quality is all worth it.
Yeah manual focus takes some getting used to with these tiny lenses, but i like breaking them out once in a while for fun.
Excellent review, much appreciated my friend! Cheers :)
my 25mm 1.7 is also flaring like crazy - first i thought this is just a faulty copy of my lens.. but now after seeing this review I suppose many cheap chinese lenses suffer from this aberration.
This lens works fine for a6000 with the proper adapter!! Just search for fujian + nex adapter on ebay.
Or C-mount to NEX...
Works on my micro 4/3 adapter. I also bought a c-mount to eos for my dslr. Not mirrorless. All I see is a blur as if a lens isn't attached. Any ideas?
HonestArtts Ent. LLC dslr cameras cannot be adapted to use other lenses with very few exceptions. These lenses were designed to be mounted much closer to the sensor than any dslr would allow, due to the mirrorbox being in the way.
@@DanielNorrisEffects thanks for the feedback. I've converted quite a few lenses with adaptors on my eos system. But like u said this lens won't work for those reasons u mentioned. Thx
I just got this lens for my GH4 but i'm having a problem, at f1.7 the lens wont focus past 3 or 4 meters from the camera... All macro rings are removed, but i still can't get it to focus at infinity. Any help would be really appreciated!
The only issue I can think of is the adapter may be iffy.
+Daniel Norris in the end i found out by comparing it to my friend's fujian that my lense was slightly further out of the whole lens body. So i had an overall closer focus range. I'll send it back and get another one...
I have the same problem with mine. What did you do at the end,you have a new one?
+Zoran Lutovac yep, i had to return it and get a new one!
+Regen Commodo
thanks.
somewhere between 30 and 37mm? We need to know the exact thread size, have you found out? I have the SMC Pentax M f1.7 do you think this Fujian lens would bring anything new to the table?
TO be honest i wouldnt waste your time with this. Go for the 25mm 1.8. that will really work well along side your 50mm. Don't confuse it with the 25mm 1.4 which is shit though. I have a video on it that i uploaded fairly recently which will show you which one to get.
@@DanielNorrisEffects Ah yes that's what I figured about the 1.4, I'll check out the 1.8 tho thanks
Nice demo!
+Fotodiox Inc Hey thanks! :)
+Daniel Norris nice doggy)
+Tommy Wanderer Thanks, thats Pablo, he is very playful and funny but can sometimes forget he isn't a small dog anymore :P
***** hahaha :D
Sorry, I'm going to buy (asap because I have to work really soon with my BMPCC) a nice wide lens for my BMPCC. I was thinking about 8 mm or something (24mm on BMPCC). And I found the Kowa 8mm f1.4 but I know that I need to modify it to use it well on my pocket. I don't know WHERE i could modify it, so... What about the Kowa Prominar 8.5mm f2.8/T3? It is usable out of the box, without mods? And there is a site where can I buy it? (Obviousely give me other tips about other wide lenses that you would buy) THX!
+oiluig illaem I honestly could say, i prefer to use canon lenses and only use c mounts for fun really. sorry.
+Daniel Norris And do you know a good wide lens Canon that match good with BMPCC? (With EF metabones, obviously)
+oiluig illaem The tokina 11-16mm f2.8, its a 1.8 on with the bmpcc metabones. There is also the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 which is f1 on the bmpcc, its not as wide but gives more range.
I have the 18-35, cool lens. needed something wider but, thank you very much for your fast answer! :D
My one arrived today, with adapter and lens hood but I can't figure out how I can connect in my Gh2. Any help, Please?
You screw the lend into the adapter and mount t like any other micro four thirds lens.
Probably my adapter came wrong or faulty.
Make sure it is a micro 4/3 adapter and not a sony adapter.
That was exactly my mistake, just ordered the micro 4/3 adapter. Thx very much!
Hey, I got the same Lens for my D3300, but it only focuses up to about 10cm. Do you have an idea how to fix that?
Guitar3000LP I am pretty sure these lenses were never made to be used on nikon bodies. The distance between the lens mount and the sensor is much too wide. The lens would need to be practically inside the body of the camera in order to achieve infinity focus. I am not even sure how you found an adapter for c mount to nikon if i am honest. :/
Hi! Could you please tell if it's suitable for Fujifilm XT-20? Thinking if buying this lens.
Мария Каричева i am not sure about this lens as i am not sure if it covers aps-c sensors
do you think this lens could work on webcams for do slr efect blur like a logitech c930 for dont buy a expensive camera? cheers :)
Maxredz if you can find an adapter that will attach it to the webcam then i suppose. Though, i have never seen one.
did you reviewed the 50mm 1.4? which one is better the 35mm or the 50mm? thanks for you help
Monica B no, i never got around to reviewing it. The 50mm is better than the 35mm because it does not have the circular distortion and also does not suffer from the heavy flaring that can be seen in the video. It is a very nice lens for low light shooting and a nice focal length for close up shooting too.
thanks for the tip! i’m on ebay now to buy one and wondering if i buy the 50mm or the 35mm...
Monica B i would say buy both lol they are good together, how ever if you are unsure, i would say get the 35 first as it offers a mid range sort of focal length. Not too wide and not too tight. BUT get one with a lens hood. Seriously
i already had a meike 35mm 1.7 for my fuji X-E1 and i like it, but now want to buy something cheaper.... lol if you say that the flare is an issue on 35mm shouldn’t i go to the 50mm? i would like to try it best on portraits, so it will be better, no?
I have both. The 50mm is better. Less blurry edges. But 50mm is pretty close up. I use the 35mm as much or more because of that.
At around 5:17 you mentioned you have another lens that doesn't suffer from flaring. Can you please share what lens that is?
NJJ2NYCE it is the 50mm f1.4 version of the 35mm. No flaring, sharper edges and less distortion.
Daniel Norris Thanks for answering my question! Keep up the good work!
NJJ2NYCE haha i answer all comments :)
I can not decide whether to buy 35 mm or 50 mm of it, i mostly shoot landscape photos with my Olympus pen ep3, which of them would you recommend to buy? is there review of 50 mm?
To be honest, i would say they are both so cheap that you might as well get both. however, i would say you might get more use out of the 35mm as a good middle range, not too wide but not too tight either. I was going to make a 50mm but just never got around to it. the 50 as no flaring like the 35mm and has even less distortion. exactly the same built quality.
The aperture ring is clickless and quiet. Did your's come with any indicator so you will know what aperture you are using. Mine did not.
InsideDre Podcast no, it came with the numbers but not the dot indicating the value it is set to. It's not a major issue though to be honest.
Thank you. Great video man
InsideDre Podcast no prob, thanks for watching :)
Hey Daniel I just saw Fujian has a 1.6 35mm lens. Any idea on the differences?
It is probably the same lens just different value written on it.
Which adapter should I order for this lens to work with a gh4?
they usually come with an adapter and two macro tubes. just order a micro 4/3 version.
Hello ! Does it work with LUMIX GX80 ? Thanks!
If it is a micro 4/3 camera then yes.
off course. thanks!
I found it here : www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B008H2HNFI/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A29EZVB447EKA7
IF ITS GLOSS CAUSING THE FLARING WHY DONT YOU MATT THE BARRELL WITH MARKER
AR 23 because then it wouldnt be a straight up review. I could have modified it to make it work better but then i wouldnt be showing people what they will be getting straight out of the box.
Great!
HI! Can i use it for my Xiaomi yi?
If it is a super 35 (aps-c) sized sensor then probably not, if it is micro 4/3 or smaller then yes, it will.
I see this right now on amazon for $20 and i have a G7
Hello! I just bought an odd c-mount lens.
It is 50mm... wide. Although the "stub" part is the right size to fit into an adapter (for my mft camera)... the lens is so wide it stops the stub from reaching and being able to be screwed on.
Any adapters exist that will allow a 50mm wide lense to be screwed in?
This is the adapter i have with my 50mm c mount, works fine for me amzn.to/22rdBiT
Bruh.. Is it compatible on eos600d ?
No, it isn't.
Does this have vigneting?
Depends which camera are you planning on using it on?
yes on sony a7II. You can use the APS-C crop mode on it to remove it
Does it cover the hole sensor?
+Paulo Lafetá Yes, even in photo mode.
Thanks mate
No prob :)
Is it good for my lumix g7?
Liju Kalabhavan it will work on it if that is what you mean
there's a crop factor with this lens oh MFT ?
frank ditalino do you normally use full frame or aps-c cameras? If not then crop factors don't affect you.
Daniel Norris yes i use mft camera, i want to know what is the crop factor
frank ditalino lenses don't have a crop factor, only sensors do. Mft cameras have a crop of 2x when compared to full frame sensors.
Whats the name of the song D: i love it
+Michael franco guerrero Its Floaters and it is part of the youtube creators sound library
+Daniel Norris. omg thanks you so much
How do u manual focus it won't let me and I don't know how
+SidAmano Could you be more specific? In what way will it not let you manual focus?
What is the breed of this dog?
He is a Blue Staff
thanks mate ;P he is so cute ;)
Why I have the feeling that I've already seen these sample clips?
Because i already posted the test film a few weeks before the review.
expected some low light tests in this video... any way, i got the michael lens cmount 35 1.6 and i love it...
dont forget to share your video in the GH4 facebook group:
facebook.com/groups/336505173167666/?fref=ts
The low light test was in the short i made. Most of the clips in that were shot just before sunset at iso 200. I will share it soon. Thanks for the comment.
