  • In this video we find out if the Enterprise D can defeat the New Enterprise G. If it can, that raises a few questions. Played from both sides :-)

    As much as I loved Season 3, I would have been 100% with the Enterprise-D returned to Active Duty and the Titan remaining the Titan under Captain Seven. Plus, it gives way for the "All Good Things" refit to take place still!

      And yet the Enterprise-D was decommissioned and placed in preservation in the Fleet Museum while the Titan-A was rechristened as Enterprise-G in honor of Jean Luc Picard and the crew of Enterprise-D. What I don't understand is how some Star Trek fans are continuing to voice their displeasure over this.

    • @olympicnut
      @olympicnut Рік тому +3

      Agreed. They missed a great opportunity. The D refitted and returned to service with Riker in command, along with the Titan commanded by Captain Seven would have opened up more story possibilities in the future.

      @@donaldshaw8710 They are burning through Enterprises too fast. The resurrected D could have been refitted and returned to active duty. (No need to add a G since she was already the D) The Titan was........the Titan. She is a cool ship but doesn't have "flagship" status in my mind. The retirement of the Enterprise F due to "systems compromised" before Frontier Day also seems silly. Picard season 3 was well done, but some of the ship decisions were just off, IMO.

    I would add that this isn't as close of a fight as it would seem. The Enterprise D was equipped with modern torpedoes in episode 10. If this Galaxy Class mod had the same modern torpedoes as the Titan, the battle would have been very much in favor of the Galaxy.

    • @blacktronpavel
      @blacktronpavel Рік тому +4

      I agree. Geordi specified Enterprise was loaded with modern torpedoes. As the ship was pieced together over the years, modernized components would be more common. I would hypothesize that the USS Syracuse was a "Dominion War refit" of the Galaxy-Class and probably lost the saucer section at the Second Battle of Chin'Toka.

      @@blacktronpavel I think your theory is correct. Drive section may have even had Type XII arrays. I would love to see a 2400 Galaxy Refit. Equipped with the "Type XIII" phaser arrays, modern torpedoes and quantums. Defensively, she would have regenerative shields and probably some armor. Could you imagine a full spread of 8 modern torpedoes hitting the Titan-A? It would take out the forward shields in one hit. The refit Galaxys with new weapons would be properly classed as Battlecruisers or Large Cruisers: Equal in firepower to battleships like the Enterprise F, but lacking the same level of protection.

    Alright. Let's be honest, the Enterprise is supposed to be the flagship of the Federation and not some light-medium cruiser which the Titan-A is. Even thought the Galaxy Class is old by the 25th century, in her time she was the most advanced starship of the Federation and held that rank for several years, the only ship that surpassed that firepower was the Sovereign and perhaps the Prometheus.
    Besides the Enterprise D has the potential for so much upgrades. Quantum Torpedoes, Ablative Armor, more shield generators and etc. With these upgrades she's capable of being one of the strongest ships of the Federation again easily, after all the Galaxy Class was supposed to have a 100 year of lifetime.
    I always like to post this to show off the power of the Galaxy Class:
    Armed with 12 phaser arrays, 3 torpedo launchers armed with 250 photon torpedoes, each launcher capable of firing a spread of 10 torpedoes simultaneously.
    So yeah, the Galaxy Class is definitely stronger than a light cruiser from the 25th century.

      I agree with everything you said. But in ST:TUC, it is safe to say that between the decommissioned E-A and before the commissioning of the E-B, the Excelsior was the flagship. The E-A was the aging of the Constitution class. So while the E-G, formerly the Titan A, is much smaller, it's not always about the name, but the type. If such was the case, the Zheng He should be the flagship, according to Riker. Just a thought.

    Very nice to see the Galaxy class defeat the Titan. Worf proved his worth once again being at Tactical on the D. Of course Geordi getting every bit of power he could to the shields.

    The Galaxy Class was considered a top-of-the-line battleship in the pre-Dominion War era (the Sovereign Class took that title during the Dominion War), while the Titan-A was considered a medium cruiser in the early 25th century. So it's not surprising that the Galaxy Class and the Titan-A are very close in combat effectiveness. Also remember that without the cloaking device--which Federation ships are banned from having by treaty (purposely and comically ignored by Jack Crusher and Sydney La Forge, lol)--the Titan-A would be at a disadvantage.

    I'm coming to terms with the Enterprise not always having to be the flagship. We don't technically have any canon evidence for whether the refit Enterprise, A, B or C were flagships, and Starfleet even went nearly 20 years in the 24th century without an Enterprise at all.
    Plus, it's been established that by the time of the refit Connies, there were more advanced and powerful ships in the fleet. There's even a little callback to naval history in a way - the Neo Constitution class may well be unique based on its genesis, which mirrors the USS Enterprise CVN-65, the only Enterprise-class aircraft carrier ever made. Having a one of a kind Enterprise G that's not a warship isn't without precedent, regardless of whether or not it's the flagship.

  • @Jerkwad152
    @Jerkwad152 Рік тому

    I would've expected the D to win, mainly because it was designed as a frontline battleship/explorer for its time, while the Titan-A was more of a light cruiser/explorer. Modern weapons or no, it's just not going to stand up as well. Given the time between the two designs, I doubt weapons would've advanced to _that_ huge of a mismatch anyway.

  • @crownprincesebastianjohano7069

    Previous generation, or rather 1.5 generations, battleship vs. modern cruiser can be a close match depending. One has to think that the Titan is equipped with a phaser type newer than the Type XII found on the Sovereign Class in 2378. The Type XII was about 40% stronger than the Galaxy's Type Xs. So a theoretical "Type XIII" should be anywhere to 33-50% more powerful than the preceding type. But, bigger ships can channel more energy through the phasers, so the Titan-A, a medium cruiser is putting less power through its Type XIII array than the Enterprise F's Type XIIIs. In raw terms, I think the Titan-A's phasers are probably in the ballpark of 50% more powerful than the Galaxy Class Type Xs. I don't know what the hit points are of the new vs older torpedoes are in the game, but one has to assume the new torpedoes are at least two generations newer, considering the Sovereign had a new type of photon in 2378, and these are newer still. Probably about 40% more powerful per torpedo. Shields are probably twice as strong.
    The old battleship vs. new cruiser analogy doesn't work well though for WWII though. Even pre-Dreadnaughts had too much armor and heavier guns than the medium cruisers, or even heavy cruisers of WWII. Though, it should be noted, that the Large Cruisers of the era, the Alaska Class was more than a match for a pre-Dreadnaught battleship, with its brand new guns with much greater range and penetration capability to the older 12-inch guns found on US and UK battleships of the 1895-1906 era. The Deutschland Class with its 11-inch guns as well could handle those ships with superior stand-off range.

    • @quantumvideoscz2052
      @quantumvideoscz2052 3 місяці тому

      Here's the thing, the Galaxy class isn't a battleship. It's not even combat-oriented. It's a heavy cruiser focused on exploration with great defensive capabilities but it isn't built to go to war. The Sovereign was a proper battleship, and that thing would tear the Titan A to shreds.
