My 93 idi smokes a tad, I run it on a 50/50 diesel ratio, it’s got more power w oil, & it gets better mpg. It burns black smoke out the tailpipe & if you turned an idi up 1-2 flats it’s abt 1-1/2 flats. Or just 1 flat, the injectors run better, & starts better, but I use some fuel cleaners to keep everything nice, & clean. Sometimes it’ll belch black, but that’s only sometimes when it’s been cruising a tad. I run some atf in it sometimes to clean it all out, & for the most part it seems to love it! This fuel I’m running only works for the old Mechanical diesels since it’s thicker & it’s dirtier, I’ve beefed up the fuel system to take it & handle it better.
I use my 99 durango as a family hauler /work truck with a trailer currently starting this swap just for the added torque but going supercharged for the wide band plus i do some light offroading so will actualy keep up with the long travel compared to the 5.9
I’m currently building a 70 econoline van. Wanted to go diesel with a 6.0 ford but it’s way too big and would only make the build too much work. But the 4bt seems like the way to go. I'd love to see a centrifugal supercharger strapped to it. Great linear power and a fat torque curve. My 2016 Twin Turbo Landcruiser 4.5ltr V8 makes 650nm at the crank so this little thing is putting down some good numbers and remember HP you see Torque you feel
Have you guys ever gotten the chance to mess around with a 4.5L Cummins? There are guys swapping them into offroad rigs that seem to have gotten some decent power out of them. They could be a better swap candidate in some of the bigger GM trucks because it frees up more room for a good fan/shoud so that you can actually tow with it. A 6BT in a bigger chevy truck doesn't leave much room for a cooling fan in the A-arm/TBI/6.5 trucks. If you guys were able to get a hold of a truck that has one in it, that might show off it's potential as a viable swap for guys needing something with the power of a mild 6BT with the room/packaging of a 4BT.
My '92 f-150 with 5.8 gets realistic 12.5 to 14 mpg.No matter how slow or fast, uphill, downhill whatever and has rough running condition right now with surging and cutting out.So I would consider a 3.9 conversion even in stock form.
Did you say that you did the dyno pull in 5th gear. Wouldn't it be better to do the pull in 4th gear as it would be 1 to 1 in gearing advantage? No boost comparison numbers from the old turbo vs the new turbo? No timing advance? Air intakes? Exhaust mods? Camshaft or valve springs?
